Heat radiated from the blinding sun making the land hazy and dry. Every so often birds flew above them heading towards the ever so delightful ocean. It was just fields of grassland still recovering from the dry winter. When clouds block the sun, Erix thanks whatever god was listening for allowing some peace for a few seconds or minutes. Mountains grew closer and closer as the rhythmic footsteps grew slower and slower. Sweat pours down his face as he shuffles Celest back up his back. She looks less sickly but still he was nervous he was carrying around a dead body.
Suddenly, he heard the faint sound of the rushing of sweet, sweet water. His eyes darted around to find the source, but to his dismay he didn’t find it. Still wandering down the rocky road he saw an outline of a small wooden building. As he grew closer to it, he saw dead vines that covered it and the wood was rotten and falling apart. Smelling the air, dust and oak wood filled his nose confirming that no humans were around. Lightly, kicking the door is creaked loudly making Celest stir around. Strolling in the old, abandoned shed, he laid Celest down on the cold dark floor. He kinda felt bad, but his back was aching.
Humming along to a random tune, he found some candles scattered around the shed. Some sunlight peaks through the cracks of the walls but he prefers some more light. It reeked too so hopefully some of the candles had some pleasant smells to them.
Erix left the weird random shed to be greeted back with the boiling heat. He was glad that no intelligent life forms should be no way near these parts. Most humans don’t travel these parts especially in this heat. Most creatures stay in their area with their desirable resources but here are just plains mostly left to normal animals. Though he was still careful, some don’t follow those simple rules. Most magical animals lived in plains that had magic litter around them, but this plain was bare.
Hearing some rustling, he sharply turned to see a brown bunny passing through. It was quite little compared to other bunnies he has seen. It was a smart bunny camouflage in the dry dead like grass most predators for the bunny would miss. But it didn’t hide from the predator staring down at the little unknowing bunny.
Slowly, the golden sun descended behind the mountains letting the heat go but the light remained. Most of life starts to prepare for sleep so it's eerily quiet. Exhausted by the terribly long walk, he collapsed into the somewhat soft grass and laid down as a breeze picked up. He can still hear the taunting sound of the rushing water that made him bite down his lips. Huffing he jumped back, eyeing the horizon. Exploring around the barren lands, he finally finds the small creek rushing down from the mountains. Grabbing the bottle for his belt he captured some water to bring back for Celest.
Washing the blood on his hands, the water slowly went dark muddy red.
Stars started to illuminate in dusky cloudy sky like an artwork; it didn’t seem real. Clouds drifted through the sky careless of the world below filled to the brim of lairs, killers, abusers and just scum of the world Just like him…
Hey, everyone had their reason, even the morally wrecked reasons.
