Shining brightly, under the pale white light of the moon, the faces of the three friends were shining brightly. After the song that Yu Na sang for them, they continued to have a great time, raising a glass of soju for each memory they shared. Soon enough, Hyun-woo, who drank quite past his limits, got up to excuse himself.
‘What a good time we had! Let’s find time next month to do it again!’ spoke Hyun-woo as he patted Yeong-hwan’s shoulder. ‘I’m going to leave you lovebirds alone! Don’t stay up too much.’ he laughed as he entered inside
Yu Na and Yeong-hwan remained outside, on the porch, looking up at the night sky. Maybe it was because they had a little too much to drink, or maybe because they shared a lot of great memories, or it could be both of those factors, yet, they felt a connection, and they were bound to make a confession that night.
‘It’s been some time since you came here. The rumors that seemed to follow you are now forgotten, and your wounds are almost healed. Yet… after all this time, you still don’t remember anything that happened. I’ve trusted you from the very first day, but I would like to know if you truly don’t remember anything, or do you want to keep it as a secret to protect all of us? Could I at least get an answer to this?’ asked yeong-hwan with hesitation, as he stared into the girl’s eyes
‘The little memories that I’ve recalled aren’t of great help to make a conclusion, sometimes, I’m not even sure if those memories are even true. For I am someone that has come from a place so far away that you wouldn’t believe. If you were to know a single thing about the world that I came from, you wouldn’t trust me anymore.’ spoke with fear Yu Na, as her greatest fear has come to light. It was time to reveal her secret, or at least, clues to it.
‘That world of yours is really so bad that you can’t tell me anything about it?’
For a moment, there was silence. Yu Na reminisces about their very first conversations, at how open he was to help her, but, most importantly, about how she didn’t make any progress to get back to her own world. It was like she was trapped here forever.
‘I’m not sure how to answer that. My world… it’s far away from me, so far that I don’t think I will ever return to it in this lifetime, so, for some days, I felt like, all those memories that I had with that world, I want to forget them.’ biting her lip, Yu Na spoke softly, holding down tears
Yeong-hwan was unsure of how to respond. He wanted to laugh, thinking that it’s funny how the girls spoke with `that world` as they shared the same world, but when she told him that she wanted to forget everything, he got unsure, as memories that he also forgot started to reappear, as if they were meant to haunt him in the very moment when he felt at peace. There was a time, more than 10 years ago, that he felt the same, but only now, did he remember it.
‘Sometimes, it scares me to see in you the reflection of myself. Your presence brought back memories that I also wanted to forget, but…’ he told in a soft manner, as he stood closer to the girl, and she leaned over, embracing him. ‘If you want to forget that world, I’ll help you. I won’t ask about who you were before, if you want, as long as you’re okay with this, we can keep living like this.’ continued Yeong-hwan as he gently stroked her hair
Yu Na held him tighter.
‘I’m scared that I’ll end up hurting you, or Hyun-woo. The danger that brought us together, I’m sure it will come back and haunt me. It’s just a matter of time until it’s brought back to life. I heard that they are still looking for someone to blame, what if they found me? Then you’ll be in trouble, you, Hyun-woo will also be hurt. I don’t want that to happen.’ began mumbling Yu Na as it became more clearer that she was about to cry
‘We'll find a way even if they were to find you. Me and Hyun-woo won’t get hurt, don’t you ever worry about us. We had a lot to endure growing up, we’ll find a way to solve this problem too, so don’t cry. If you want to forget, forget everything. We’ll live this life without looking back in the past. How does that sound?’ he tried to reassure the girl that everything was going to be fine, yet she had so much to worry
‘Then… What if, one day, when I wake up, you’re gone? What will I do then? I don’t want to lose you. I’m scared.’ as she said those words, tears started running down her cheeks.
Yeong-hwan quickly grabbed her face, looking scared into her eyes. He gently wiped her eyes as the girl was still sobbing.
‘Does the thought of losing me scares you so much? Did you grow fond of me?’ he softly asked as the girl nodded her head
‘Yeong-hwan, I like you. A lot. I don’t want to ever lose you, so don’t leave–’ she confessed her feelings looking with sincerity into his eyes, but soon enough she stopped.
Yeong-hwan, who shared the same feelings for the girl, leaned down looking at her soft features. Her soft lips, her small eyes and her blushy cheeks. He felt his body was burning as she confessed her feelings for him. Gently putting his hand on her cheek, he leaned to kiss her.
Yu Na felt that the time stopped at that moment, the moment his lips touched hers. As she put her arms around him, holding him so close, she could feel the warmth of his body. She felt protected in his arms despite being in the most vulnerable moment and he felt lost in the moment, surrounded by the persistent smell of rose of hers.
