As they entered Newflower, which was primarily a city that looked settled in an open field of grass, Sammy nervously twiddled her fingers. Brian looked over at her.
“Something’s bothering you. What’s wrong?”
The bunny chuckled.
“Just thinking about how this gym battle might go for me. Since, well, ya know, first gym and all that, it’s going to mean a lot.”
Tyler softly pat her back.
“I’m sure you’ve got this. No need to worry at all!”
The three would walk around and explore the shops and other interesting buildings, before coming upon the sight of the giant Pokemon Gym Stadium that resided at the top of the miniature hill.
Sammy let out a sigh.
“The thing is..it’s not the gym itself I’m worried about. It’s the person running it.”
Brian and Tyler looked at her, confused. Why would she be worried about the Gym Leader?
The three of them turned around as a figure came out the stadium door. He was a rabbit too; a mixture of caramel and slightly gold-ish colors in his fur. His eyes turned right at Sam.
“Well well well, if it isn’t my little sister. The professor told me you finally picked up a Pokemon for yourself.” he’d say, with a smirk.
Both Brian and Tyler gasped, and said in unison,
“The Gym Leader is your brother!?!”
Sam sighed.
“Yeah..”
She turned towards him.
“Hi Tamoka.”
The older rabbit laughed, and ruffled her hair.
“And these must be your friends. You guys ready to watch dear Sammy get her butt kicked in a Gym Battle? I’m sure it’ll be a grand old time.”
“H-Hey! At least give me a bit of a chance, I picked out the perfect Pokemon that’ll kick your behind!”
Sam would snap back.
Tamoka grinned.
“Oh, I’m sure you have. I’ll be waiting for you out on that battlefield once you finish my Gym mission, my dear sibling.”
Sam put her face in her palm as he turned and walked back inside.
“Oh man…”
Brian hugged her.
“I’m sure you’ll do fine, Sam! We’re all going to battle him anyway, so if anything we can help you through this mission.”
Tyler nodded his head.
“This is going to be one hell of a sibling showdown.”
The Newflower Gym, as the three of them would walk in to look around to see soon after they all changed into their newly given Gym Challenger outfits, was designed to be a garden labyrinth, full with flowers as well as pokemon roaming around, as if it was some kind of pokemon ranch. The assistant who was a tall, brown bear, awaited them at the start, approached them.
“Welcome, challengers! Here’s your mission. You guys have to round up all the Wooloo from here, get them past the gates, and keep rollin’ them alllll the way to the end! But be a little bit careful, there’s trainers who will want to battle you on the way.”
Sam stepped forward and nodded confidently.
“Sounds easy enough. Let’s do this.”
There were about 30 Wooloo rolling about; the three of them took 10 each to round up and guide to the gates. The bunny was very determined to complete this challenge, as she took on all the trainers who stood in the way of the mission. Brian and Tyler ran around trying to get the Wooloo to stay in one spot. Soon enough, the three of them would successfully make it to the end and rung the bell that would indicate their challenge was complete.
Brian approached Sammy and Tyler, out of breath.
“Hooo boy, that was a lot of rounding up to do…”
“Yeah..this was way easier back home, to be honest..”
Sam would say in response.
“Are you ready to face him?”
Tyler asked, with a look of concern.
Sammy looked back.
“..Yup. Totally ready.”
She held both their hands as they passed through the gate, and through the hallway that would lead them to the center stadium. In the distance, they’d hear the announcer.
“And now coming on to the battlefield, a newcomer to the Gym Challenge..who is actually the younger sister to the gym leader, Sammy!”
She let go of Brian and Tyler’s hands and walked forward, where she’d come face to face with her brother.
Tamoka gave her a mischievous grin.
“I knew you’d make it here.”
Sam glared at him.
“Of course I would. I’m very determined to kick your butt, and I’ll do it in front of this whole crowd!”
He’d chuckle.
“Aye, well, we’ll just have to see about that. May our battle begin, sis.”
They’d walk to the opposite ends of the field; Tamoka sent out his Seedot. Sammy sent out her Pikipek.
“Now then. Alright Seedot, use Tackle!”
Tamoka yelled in order to make the first move.
Sam grunted.
“Pikipek, use..Echoed Voice? See if that works, I guess!”
Her Pikipek let out a loud airwave and shot it directly at Seedot, causing it to tumble back a little.
Tamoka directly commanded it to use another Tackle.
“Pikipek, counter with Peck!”
Sammy would shout back as her pokemon launched herself forward with full force into Seedot.
Her brother would send his pokemon back into its ball.
“Not bad, sis. Not bad.”
He’d pick up another ball and throw it.
“Come on out, Skiddo!”
His pokemon let out a proud goat noise.
“Use Vine Whip!”
Sammy’s Pikipek tumbled.
“Ah. God. Uh, Pikipek, use Peck again!”
“You’re sure that's a good idea, sis?”
Tamoka would ask teasingly, as he commanded Skiddo to continuously use Vine Whip to prevent Pikipek from getting close.
Sam pondered as she watched the two pokemon go at each other.
“Gah..think, there’s gotta be an opening somewhere…Thiiink. Thiiiink.”
She’d gasp.
“Use Echoed Voice at closest range, then go for a Peck!”
Tamoka got wide eyed.
“Wait wh-!?”
In the blink of an eye, his Skiddo would come back, sliding across the battlefield. It appeared to him that he had fainted.
The announcer threw his hands up in awe.
“And in a STUNNING turn of events in this Sibling Rivalry, it appears we have a clear winner! The win goes to the challenger, Sammy!”
“LETS GOOOO!”
“YEAH! YOU GO GIRL!”
Brian and Tyler would cheer from the sideline along with the crowd.
Sammy laughed in victory, and Tamoka sent back his Skiddo into the ball.
“You battled spectacularly, Skiddo. Thank you.”
He’d then go up to her.
“And just like that, I face utter defeat. How embarrassing, haha.”
He held out his hand with the gym badge in his palm.
“You did great, sis. I’m proud of you.”
Sammy pounced forward and gave him a hug.
“Thanks bro.”
He laughed as he hugged her back, and dropped the badge in her hand.
“You’ve still got a long way to go before ya get all 8 badges, but this’ll be a start. Now do me a favor and give it your all, okay?”
