I wonder how Kara’s doing right about now.
It still feels so surreal that we got reincarnated in this way. Yesterday’s meal may have been a welcome surprise, but that brush with death has made me realize just how fleeting life is. If I had been older or done more to piss the guard off, I could be six feet under right now.
We already went through death together once before, so I have to do everything I can to become strong enough to make sure that that never happens again.
At least we’re finally almost where we need to go. I can see the building that my father pointed out in the distance.

“HEY- WHO’S THERE- OHHH, DEAR YOUNG BOY!”
“Haha, no need to flatter me so much, old friend.”
“Dad, who’s this?” I mean, it's obviously the shopkeeper. I just want to know who they are to my dad and why they seem so crazy already.
“The shopkeeper!” No duh, dad.
“Not just any shopkeeper, little missy! I am the great Theodore, ruler of swords, arbiter of enchantments, fenangler of rare parts, I am-”
“You can just call him Theo, sweety.”
“HEY! Just because you saved my skin many moons ago doesn’t mean you can just go around undermining my many titles!” This guy sure has an ego. Hopefully it's for a good reason.
“Haha, it’s okay, Theo. I’m here for what we discussed via letter. Just looking for some swords for my dear daughter, Eve.” He patted me on the back so hard it almost made me fall over.
“Hi..” I said, a little meekly. I’m honestly a little sketched out by this guy. He’s stroking his beard in contemplation as if he’s sizing me up, despite me being a child.
“My, oh my. What a strange little kid you have here.” Me? Old man, you’re testing my patience.
“What do you mean, Theo?”
As if I wasn’t already sketched out, he just closed the blinds to his shop and flipped his open sign to closed while locking the door. I don’t have a very good feeling about where this is going.
“Are either of you familiar with information based skills?”
“Sure, some people have skills that make them able to just know certain kinds of information about people or objects, such as their age. Usually just a more accurate version of general observation. This one has quite an information based skill themself. It’s actually part of why-”
“Precisely. My inherent skill is an information skill. Do you care to venture a guess as to what information I’m able to discern about people?”
“It doesn’t appear to be knowing when they’re done talking, Theo. You’re being a tad guarded right now. What makes you want to close your doors to outsiders so quickly before even hearing out what I have to explain?”
“Because, young man. My ability is to see the limits of others. I can see a list a mile high of things that can and will continue to limit your potential, such as your inability to expand your affinities, which is the most common limit amongst people and animals alike. In the case of objects, I can use their limits to determine their potential.”
“I see.. And what does this mean exactly?”
“You.” He points at me with a quizzical glare in his eyes. “Your limit list is blank. Your powers aren’t bound by the laws of nature of our world. You, young lass, are limitless.”
