He had sat up in his bed with gasping breaths, grabbing and tugging at his own hair with his left hand as tears streamed down his face with unknowing sorrow, still in shock from such a dreadful and reminiscent nightmare. Amazon had looked over to his bedside table, more specifically to his clock to check what time it had been exactly “9:55..” he had mumbled to himself with a slightly sour tone, annoyed with himself for sleeping in once again. He gave a shaky sigh, his hands still trembling after dealing with a horrifying yet very real nightmare, as it had seemed more like a memory coming back to haunt him for his misdeeds. He wiped his face with his shirt sleeve to get rid of the tears that had been dripping down his cheeks as he had always found crying to be embarrassing, even when alone. With his head still feeling a bit sore from him grabbing at his hair so tightly, He took hobbling, sad steps off of his bed with an annoyed groan, not at all excited to be starting off the day and wishing he could just go back to bed and stay there for the rest of forever. He would have loved to stay in bed for the rest of the day but truthfully he couldn't, he still had a job to get to and he had already been late one too many times this week due to him continuously sleeping in. Amazon had made his way to his apartment's bathroom, immediately making his way to the sink and splashing very cold water on his face in hopes it would wake him up more than he already was. He looked at himself in the mirror, staring for a good long while as the sight disgusted him slightly, his skin had a very odd grayish pink tone to it, very similar to his eyes which had been an even brighter hot pink color. He reached his hand up close to his hair and touched one of the large horns that had grown from his head, sighing as he kept staring at his cursed self in the mirror, he had only ever seen himself as an ugly beast, as that's just what everyone else saw him as, and if everyone thought that collectively then it must be true, right? he was barely ready for the day to come as he already knew of the harassment he would receive, the people that would stare, whisper, and mock him for looking like a spawn of the devil even though he was no such thing, he was human, he just didn't quite look the part. Despite his desire to avoid the harassment and harm, he needed to get going, after all he's been late to work at least 4 days in a row now and he wouldn't want to disappoint his brother, Milo Kent, once again.
It took Amazon another 30 minutes to get to his workplace, it usually it took him about an hour or more due to the major distance between his apartment and the Devil's Advocate Casino and the lack of him having any automotive to get him there faster, but this time he was rather motivated to get there quickly as he wanted to avoid as many people as possible as well as get there quickly to avoid his tardiness being noted by his boss. Despite the amount of people he had to deal with day to day that didn't like him in the slightest, he rather liked his job, his duty at the casino was to deal the cards at the poker table, deal with people who refused to keep up with their end of certain bargains and to occasionally perform tricks up on the stage to entertain the guests, which in itself was easy enough, though it could easily get a bit more difficult without focus or full control, which just so happened to be a slight issue for Amazon as paying attention and keeping control of things, especially his emotions, was something he wasn't very good at. Once he had arrived he took a good look around, the casino was beautiful this time a day, with the sun still set low enough that the lights of the night were on, but risen just high enough that it shined like a soft lovely spotlight through the few front windows, he gave a breath as he had walked over to the bar, it was just barely opening hours and he still had some time to relax and sit before the casino flooded with an abundance of people both young and old, rich and poor. He sat down at a bar stool and gave another sigh, still tired as ever though he needed to cheer up a bit as if he kept this glum and sad demeanor he would worry his best friend, Eleanor Rimsley. Eleanor and Amazon were extremely different when it came to looks, which honestly isnt that much of a surprise considering how different Amazon was to everything, while amazon had blackish purple colored hair, Eleanors was a dark brown color, so dark it could be easily mistaken as black, compared to Amazon her skin was also significantly darker than his, the only real similariaties between them look-wise was the fact that they both had wings, and even then that was different, Amazons being more pointed and webbed like a dragon's and Eleanor's being more feathery and fluffed like a bird, they looked drastically different from each other yet they got along like they were the same person. Eleanor was the casino's bartender and cook, she catered to the guests needs for food and drink as well as being a music performer on special occasions where she had the free time to do so. “Hey there Amazon..” called a familiar yet seemingly saddened voice from behind the bar's counter, to which Amazon had replied with a humble and more cheery “Hi Eleanor, how are you?” not having immediately noticed her obviously sad tone as he thought she might have just been tired, he couldn't judge her for that as he was also extremely tired, though when Amazon asked what he did he was met with a very obviously sad sigh from Eleanor ``Its uhm.. It's fine.. but I do have some bad news..” Eleanor had said as she started cleaning out a few glasses so she was fully prepared for when the guests would come in and order drinks, Amazon had now finally noticed Eleanor's sad tone and demeanor and gave a sigh “Oh no.. what's going on now?” Amazon asked, it wasn't a rare occurrence that Eleanor had bad news, or honestly anything dramatic in general to share and complain about, she always seemed to have something going on, but that was fine as Amazon liked to hear about it, it was a nice distraction. Even though he was used to her having bad or dramatic news, this time it was different, this time Eleanor seemed genuinely sad about what she had to say, normally she would just sigh and act like she was in a drama film all about her, so seeing her look genuinely sad was a surprise, and not the pleasant kinda, it worried him “Well.. Boss told me not to tell you anything yet as he wanted to tell you himself, but I dont think you’ll be working here anymore..” she said with another saddened sigh, looking away from her friend as she tried to distract herself with washing the same glass she had been working on for a few minutes now, to which Amazon had felt his own heart drop 'wouldn't be working here? Is he firing me..?' he thought to himself for a moment, confused as to what he could have done wrong to get himself fired, sure he had a bit of a late issue as well as a few anger problems, but nothing to get fired over! ..right? “What? Why?” he asked, his tone being far less cheery than before as he had been extremely surprised and frankly very upset, to which Eleanor looked at him with sympathy and with a shaky sigh “I don't know, he didn't tell me that part.. but he did tell me to send you to his office once you got here so you should probably go.." she said as she continued to wash the glasses and set them on the shelf behind the counter, looking away from Amazon as she didnt want to see him sad, work was really the only place they got to talk to each other in person as they lived very far from each other and didn't really have time or energy after work to go out anywhere despite them both kind of wanting to. Amazon didn't know what to say after that but also looked away, seeing Eleanor sad hurt in a way he couldn't really understand, normally he couldn't care less when someone was sad but when it came to Eleanor he wanted nothing more than to make it better, but he couldn't make this better, it wasn't under his control. He stood up from his stool rather quickly as he wanted to get this over with, if he was getting fired it was better to rip that bandaid off, it's not like his only source of income and survival was this job or anything, nothing to be nervous about "Thanks for telling me.." he mumbled and hesitantly made his way to their bosses office, nervous as he thought up of every different reason as to why he would be getting fired, which didnt help his nerves in the slightesy.
