Amazon took a few more steps to reach his boss's office, looking at the door as he was nervous about knocking, even though he had slight confidence about this before, that disappeared as he got closer to the door, incredibly nervous to meet with this new problem piled on the problems he already had, what was he supposed to do if he was fired? Noone else in this city would fire him no matter what! How would he pay rent? How would he buy food? The worries and questions flooded his mind as he stood outside the office door, finally taking a breath and working up a minor amount of courage to knock "Here goes nothing.." he mumbled to himself as he took a deep breath, knocking on the door. He waited a moment for a response, fighting the urge to walk away immediately after doing so, maybe if he just avoided this he could keep coming to work like nothing happened, or maybe this was just some prank of Eleanor's and his boss would confirm that and send him on his way, however much to Amazon's worry, this was not the case "Come in!" called a deep yet friendly voice from inside the office in response to Amazon's knock, only confirming to him that he couldn't run away from this, he couldn't just use a quick escape and act like everything was fine, it wasn't fine. Once Amazon had heard his boss reply he gave a sigh and stepped into the office, trying to give off a cheery disposition despite being extremely worried and slightly fearful "ah.. Eleanor said you wanted to see me?," he said, giving a bit of a forced smile to make it seem like he was confident and in control, maybe he could seem in charge and upbeat to convince that he was able to keep working here "Amazon! You are just the person I wanted to speak with, how are you doing today Brother?" he asked, Amazons Boss, Milo Kent, had also been his brother, having given Amazon this job when no one else would hire him. Milo was always oddly formal, always wearing a tux no matter the situation, being extremely organized, speaking in the most proper english someone possibly could, he was the epitome of professional, his only real issue with people was the fact that he had a very similar problem as that of Amazon, the look of a demon despite having no such relation to one, but he was also extremely kind, so kind in fact that it baffled Amazon to see Milo get treated with the same disrespect and harassment that he did, Milo always took others in his arms no matter what, and only really disliked a person if they were morally gray or evil, which is why Amazon was nervous to find out why he was being fired, as he didnt think that his brother would ever fire him unless it was for something awful. "I guess I'm fine.. though, why did you want to talk to me?" He asked, though he subconsciously already knew the answer to his questions. "Well, Knowing Eleanor you probably already know a small bit of why I wanted to speak with you, so I guess I can cut to the chase.." Milo gave a sigh and stood up from his desk, walking over to one of his extremely organized filing cabinets and pulling out a large folder, placing it on his desk and sitting back down "Recently, for reasons I will explain in just a moment, i've started to think that maybe working here at the casino just isn't cut out for you.." he said, gesturing at the chair in front of him for Amazon to sit "..I.. I see.." Amazon mumbled in response and sat down, trying to be quiet so as to not lose his cool and make a fool of himself when he was already in a bad enough position, looking down at his knees with a sigh "May I ask why..?" He asked and looked back up to Milo, who in turn gave another sigh "Of course, I wouldn’t just leave you in the dark about this.. now. Recently i've noticed you having struggles with your.. condition.. especially with how your said condition affects your mood and more specifically your anger..'' When Milo brought this up Amazon looked to him with worry, already having a vague idea of where this was going as Milo has given him lectures before about his bursts of anger and how to control them "What I'm mostly worried about is your tendency to.. lash out.. on certain customers. and while yes I can understand that they were bad people, you still cannot do that to customers here unless specifically authorized.. you could get yourself in serious trouble" He said with a sigh, slowly opening up the folder he grabbed to reveal the contents inside of it "I know. You've given me this lecture before.." Amazon said with a slightly sour tone, sighing as he crossed his arms, he was trying to keep calm but holding back sass was becoming difficult "I know I have, but you haven't listened! just last night you threw a glass bottle at someone simply for cheating in a game! There are much better and more professional ways to handle those things, Amazon, but you choose to be violent despite the ways I've told you about helping your anger. It's highly unprofessional and frankly you are lucky that man didn't press charges on you or my casino." Milo never failed to be blunt and straight forward about his concerns, always thinking that saying exactly what the issue had been was much better than beating around the bush and being unnecessarily sympathetic, Amazon stayed quiet however, his arms crossed as his foot tapped on the ground in annoyance and rising anger "Now, I know very well that if you do not have this job you will lose a lot, including your apartment and availability to buy things you need such as clothes and food, since no one in the city seems to want to hire you, which is why I have come up with multiple alternatives for you outside of the city.. all are well paying and are already willing to hire you.. all you have to do is make the phone call." He said, sliding the folder over to the other side of the desk for Amazon to take.
Amazon looked at the folder, his eyes narrowing into a slight glare at it as if it was the folders fault any of this was happening "How many jobs did you apply me for?" He asked, redirecting his slight glare to Milo, not only was his own brother firing him, but without ever discussing this with him first he was signing him up for jobs even farther away from his comfort zone of familiarity “Four, I applied to four for you. You can only choose about two from them however, as they are pretty long term and any more than two would leave you overworked-" Milo said, keeping his calm, kind tone as he was only trying to help despite knowing Amazon was getting annoyed, though got interrupted by Amazon giving a slight chuckle "You're worried about ME getting overworked? That's rich. Have you looked in a mirror lately? When was the last time YOU took a break from work and got sleep?" He asked with a huge amount of attitude and anger laced into his voice, severely annoyed with his brother and his amount of hypocrisy, truthfully he didnt care about Milo's overworking issue, seeing it as he's a grown man and can control that stuff on his own, though he was also simultaniuosly proving Milo's point, his emotions were truthfully getting out of control due to his condition, his anger being a ticking time bomb for something awful to eventually happen, and without the proper care, that could lead to himself or someone else getting seriously hurt. "Amazon, I will not be taking any argument in this matter, this is what's best for you. This can help you.." He said, trying to calm Amazon down "I know this is going to be a huge change for you but you need to at least try." Amazon only scoffed in return "Why? Because you told me too?" He snarked with crossed arms “Because it's what is best for you.” His kind and calm tone began to go away as he got more stern, putting his foot down “These jobs are much more suited for you, and they can also help you with your conditio-" He got cut off my Amazon once again, getting more annoyed than ever "DON'T call it 'my condition'. It's not a condition and you know it. it cannot be cured like some sickness. Say it like it is." He said, slamming his hands onto the desk as he stood up, being loud and angry despite his attempts of trying to keep his calm "...As you wish. I know your Corruption cannot be fully cured, but that doesn't mean it can't be helped, it can be molded to be safer for you, it can be changed to help you instead of making your life harder.." He gave Amazon a sympathetic look as he spoke, hoping that he could convince Amazon to do this though not having high hopes, knowing how stubborn amazon could be. Amazon was caught off guard by Milo actually saying what was wrong with him instead of brushing it off and beating around it, as he was used to people completely dodging the topic, so when Milo did so he gave a sigh and decided to try and consider it, maybe this wouldn't be so bad.. after all, if Milo seemed so sure about it then it could work, Milo has never really steered him in the wrong direction before "...ok. Fine. I'll LOOK at the jobs, but I'm not promising anything." he said and picked the folder up, Milo giving him a relieved smile in response "Thank you, Amazon, i'm sure you will like the options you have.." “Yeah yeah whatever.. Don't get your hopes up..” He muttered with a slight eye roll, leaving Milo's office to go back home, Eleanor stopping him on the way as she was still very worried for him "Well? What did he say? Are you still working here?" She asked as she had been hoping Amazon could smoothly talk his way out of getting fired, though having a ton of questions, as always. "No.. I won't be.. he gave me a bunch of job applications that he's already set me up for.. I just have to pick one and call them I guess.." his tone was sad and disappointed, he really enjoyed working here as it was close to his friends and family, and since the jobs Milo got him were outside of the city he wouldn't get to see them much anymore.
Eleanor looked to Amazon with a sad sigh, very disappointed her friend wasn't going to be working here every day with her, though, that wasn't the only reason she was disappointed about him leaving, she had begun to see Amazon as more than a friend, which was expected considering how much time they ended up spending together in Amazon's years of working with her at the casino. "You.. you're still going to come around.. right?" she asked, her voice sounding sad, broken, and above all else, on the verge of tears as she was worried she'd never see him face to face again “Huh- y-yes of course im going to come around! I'm not just going to leave and never come back! Don't worry.." He said in an attempt to reassure his clearly distraught friend, patting her head as he gave a smile, to which Eleanor gave a sniffle and a nod, wiping her tears "Ok.. i'll look forward to seeing you again soon.." she said with a smile back to Amazon, looking him in the eyes with a starry eyed look as she had assumed that this was perhaps a romantic moment between the two, two soon to be lovers who had to seperate on circumstances they could not control, two lovers that would reunite and be together forever, just like in the many romantic books she read, though Amazon saw this more as two friends who were going to be separating for awhile though would keep in touch because they cared for each other and wouldn't want to lose each other, Eleanor thought this was romantic, while Amazon only saw it as a long distance friendship. Amazon gave his friend a wave "I'll text you after I take a look at these jobs okay? See you later!" He said as he left the casino, giving Eleanor a reassuring smile to lift her spirits as he walked out into the street to make his way home, despite a lot of things changing for him today one thing stayed the same, his walk home, the walk in which he got stared at, whispered about, pointed at, and more, noone in this city seemed to like him besides Milo, Eleanor, and the occasional kind person who didn't immediately judge a book by its cover, everyone else had always been assuming he was some monster, some beast that would sneak in their windows and steal up their souls or children or worse as clearly he was some sort of demon spawn, but that wasn't true at all, he wasn't some monster, he was just a person who suffered a condition that he could not control in the slightest, but no one seemed to, or even wanted to understand that. It was like they all preferred treating him like a monster rather than listen to the facts and accept that he was human, like it was just easier to be awful.
