Wes
Like many omegas, Wes was coddled from birth. Fiercely protected by his wealthy parents, Wes rarely explored the great outdoors. Never played in the mud or climbed any trees. The harsh restrictions only increased in severity when Wes was diagnosed with asthma. The closest Wes had come to the wilderness was visiting one of his father's golf courses.
Wes had never once resented the strict rules until he was in the armed truck, being driven to the dense woods.
Wes was no idiot. He knew without help, he wouldn't stand a chance against an Alpha. So, when the next omega was hauled into the truck, the guard restraining him sporting a black eye, Faun saw the opportunity for an alliance.
“Come on, Wes!” The said omega, Milo, grabbed Wes's thin hand to pull him toward the rocky landscape in the distance.
Wes let himself spare a glance towards the third omega they were abandoning. Wes remembers sizing up the freckled brunette in the truck, promptly deciding that the slight creature would only hinder Milo and himself. Watching the brunette stumble into the dense woods like a lost doe only reaffirmed Wes's belief that he made the right decision.
Milo squeezed his hand a tad tighter, drawing Wes out of his thoughts and back towards the grim present.
The two omegas sprinted through the dark. Well... Milo sprinted while Wes was half dragged behind the agile omega. Every rattled breath seemed to punch out of Wes, the noise especially loud in the eerily silent forest. Wes, not for the first time, wished he could have snuck his inhaler into the run with him.
When I get out of here, I am suing the shit out of this place.
The two omegas progressed cautiously through the rocky terrain toward the designated safe zone. Milo expertly dodged sharp, jutting rocks and a myriad of other tripping hazards, only pausing long enough to assist Wes through the dangerous obstacles.
As Wes's eyes adjusted to the inky darkness around them, he understood Milo's preference to travel through the mountainous area. Deep cave systems appeared to carve through the craggy mountains. The deep shadows, revealing their openings. The cave mouths appeared to be just large enough for two omegas to slip through, keeping out any unwanted alphas. Wes was once again glad he had stuck with Milo.
The two omegas had made decent progress, led by Milo's graceful movements when said omega slid to a sudden stop. Wes collided noisily with the toned omega's back, breaths coming out in wheezing shudders.“What's wrong?” Wes questioned worriedly.
“It’s too quiet,” Milo replied grimly.
Wes held his breath, stopping his raspy panting. The omega immediately realized what Milo had meant by 'too quiet'. The gentle hum of wildlife from the soft crickets and gentle owl hoots was completely hushed. Even the tall trees in the gentle night wind had stopped their rustling. The silence was ominous and Wes felt his heartbeat pound faster.
Wordlessly, the two omegas turned back-to-back, each searching the shadowed areas around them. After thoroughly scouring the stony surroundings, Wes let out a breath of relief.
It must have just been our imaginations.
Ready to start their trek again, Wes turned toward Milo... who was pale and petrified. Filled with dread, Wes followed Milo's line of sight and felt his heart sink to his stomach.
There, perched 30 feet away, was the silhouette of a tall, winged creature. The moon behind the terrifying individual cast a mean, long shadow towards the two shaking omegas.
By the time Wes broke himself out of his fear-induced haze to search for the origin of the horrifying shadow, it was already gone.
Not wasting any time, Wes dragged Milo behind him, heading back towards the cave systems.
A crack of enormous wings beating above them drove Wes to sprint faster, while an eery voice in the back of his mind told him to slow down.
Ignoring the strange instinct, Wes crammed both himself and Milo into the first narrow cave entrance he saw. A heartbeat later and the Alpha's imposing figure loomed in the craggy opening. Far too large to reach the panting omegas.
“It’s an Alpha,” Wes whispered breathlessly.
Milo raised a dark eyebrow. "No shit, it's an Alpha."
Rolling his eyes, Wes went back to observing the strange creature. Just as his tutors taught him, Alpha's were huge. This one was no different. The muscled creature stood at least 6 feet tall. Wes let his eyes wander to the Alpha's dark, feathered wings.
As if seeing Wes's probing eyes in the dark, which the animal-like Alpha probably could, the Alpha puffed up his broad wings, flapping them strong enough to send Wes's shoulder-length hair tumbling into his eyes.
Wait, was he... posturing?
"We need to keep moving," Milo interrupted Wes's thoughts. Quickly collecting himself, Wes nodded in agreement.
The two omegas proceeded down the damp cavern, flinching at every noise in the darkness.
"Milo," Milo turned his head toward Wes in acknowledgment, "have you been hearing... voices in your head?"
"Umm, most definitely fucking not." Milo gave him a concerned look that Wes waved away.
"It's nothing," Wes pushed. "It's just been a long, long night."
Wes wasn't sure how much time had passed before they finally found an exit. Milo slowly poked his head through the opening, observing any movement in the dark sky. A tense minute later, both omegas let out a sigh of relief.
They were safe for now.
With hesitant steps, the two omegas left the caves and cautiously started towards the safe zone. As time passed, the two omegas began to once again move with confidence through the mountainous terrain.
As the moon slowly descended, mountains turned into dense, rooted forests. Wes kept his eyes upward, wary of the bird-like Alpha.
"Wes, look." Milo pointed into the distance ahead. Wes nervously followed Milo's finger and felt his breath catch. There, not even 20 minutes away, was a watchtower, surrounded by heavy steel gates.
"The safe zone," Wes said in awe.
They made it! Wes could finally go home.
Milo crushed Wes into a hug, both omegas smiling so widely it hurt.
"Come on," Milo breathed to Wes, tugging him eagerly towards their safety. Wes couldn't keep the stupid grin off of his face walking with- stop. Wes immediately locked his knees together, pulling Milo to an abrupt halt.
"What's wrong?" Milo urged, trying and failing to pull Wes ahead.
"I don't know." Wes was dumbfounded. That odd inner voice was screaming at him to stop, just like...
"He's here!" Wes shouted to the other omega. Wes watched, petrified, as the winged alpha swept out of the dark shadows towards him.
Wes yelped in surprise as he was bodily swung over Milo's shoulder. The other omega thundered toward the safe zone, dodging swooping dives from the airborne Alpha.
Wes once again let himself feel a flicker of hope until the Alpha came to land right in front of the metal gates. With no other choice, Milo turned from the safe zone and sprinted back into the dense forest. Wes, still being carried like a sack of potatoes, let himself be hauled deeper and deeper into the sheltered growth.
Wes winced as Milo pulled them through prickly brambles and under fallen trees until they reached a shadowed clearing sheltered above by thick foliage.
Milo unceremoniously dropped Wes onto the forest floor.
"Why the fuck did you stop?" Milo demanded. Wes just opened and closed his mouth, unable to find the words to explain the strange instincts.
"We were right fucking there, and you stopped!" Milo leaned into Wes's face, seething with rage.
Wes, for the first time, found himself afraid of his fellow omega. His inner voice demanded that he defend himself. Keep himself safe until his Alpha found him.
Overwhelmed, Wes stared numbly as Milo grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt. The omega was shouting now, working himself up, but oddly Wes couldn't hear him. Wes felt like his head was underwater.
Milo slowly stopped yelling as he took in Wes's strange behaviour. Milo's angered face softened. The other omega cautiously released Wes, but it was too late. Something bad was happening.
The last thing he heard was the inner voice hum in excitement, before his back erupted in agony, and everything turned black.
