Christina's POV
I lay awake on my bed, unable to sleep. The feeling of falling to my death stuck on my mind, feeding the tiredness of my eyes. I glanced at my window that was covered by a curtain. I could see a ray of light piercing through the curtain, but it failed.
The sun had risen. In less than seven hours ago, I faced the dark blue hue of a midnight sky because I couldn't stand to face and know how near I was to crashing into a flowing river. If it wasn't for the hero that saved us, I wonder if I would be staring at my ceiling like this ever again?
I mean, there was a chance. But the ceiling was going to be the only thing I would be looking at my whole life. Good thing that chance didn't get come true.
Another thing that had been keeping me from sleeping was the glow Rosalynn had last night. I couldn't see very clearly because of the tears blocking my vision, but I think I saw a light of red surrounding Rosalynn as we fell. It could just be my imagination. How do people just glow like that anyway?
I didn't get to think much about it as a knock was heard from the other side of my door. I sat up on my bed, a headache making me dizzy.
"Come in."
The door opened and my mother appeared. She smiled at me and spoke softly, "Breakfast is ready, daughter."
"Oh..." I said with no energy at all. "Could I... just eat it later? I'm not hungry right now."
My mother raised an eyebrow. "Of course, but why aren't you hungry? You were always so excited to eat food, no matter the time of day."
I pouted at her statement. My mind went back to when Rosalynn and I almost died. I shook my head, deciding not to tell my mother. "It's nothing. I just don't want to eat right now."
"Okay, Christina. I'll leave you be, then." My mother was about to close my door when a distinct voice called out from outside.
I knew that voice better than anyone else. "Is that Rosalynn?"
The exhaustion I felt went away and I rushed to leave my bed, much to my mother's surprise. My footsteps thumped on the wooden floor as I made my way to the front door.
There stood my friend, dressed in shorts that stopped above her knees and a red t-shirt. Her brown hair was tied into a ponytail. She looked much better than me - and I meant that as she at least had some shut-eye compared to me.
"Hey, what brings you here so early?" I asked as I stepped outside of the house.
"I wanted to see how you were doing." Her voice became low. "Especially after... That."
I immediately got the hint. "I'm doing okay - I have some questions, but I'm fine."
"Honestly? Me too." I could see she balled her hands into fists. "And I have a feeling most of our questions in mind are alike."
"Let's talk somewhere else." I turned around to enter my home once again. "Give me a minute to change."
