(From this chapter onwards, the novel will be written in third person)
Akio quickly did all the chores before eating dinner. He mindlessly did them, like a machine programmed to repeat the same action over and over until the desired result was obtained. After all, what could he do? Too many doubts were swirling in his head.
While eating dinner, he kept tapping his feet and nervously glancing at the door or the clock. Maybe he was anxious about his parents. Maybe he expected them to come in any minute and do away with all his worries.
Putting away the plates he had used, he started to make way for his room which was on the second floor. With each passing step, his body became heavier. His eyelids drooped down. He could muster energy no more.
Somehow, he managed to get to his room. Laying on his bed was one of the most relaxing things that had ever happened to him in life. At least, that's what he thought.
The exhaustion from the day had caught up to him. He could no longer move his body.
『Everything will be alright.....』
He fell asleep while thinking this.
***
A glowing adult whose face I couldn't see approached me.
『So, you are the unfortunate one, eh? What should I do with you now? Giving you a normal ability and then saying it was just a mistake on my part wouldn't cut it. Besides, it was not my fault at all. You just had luck. But even I have sympathy......』
『What is he babbling on?』
Akio was confused. Where was he? What was going on? But, even more than that, did he say that his no-ability was his fault? What did it mean? Was he a god? But did gods give them their abilities?
『Listen, kid. I am the creator of this whole ability system. You may call me god. The reason you have no ability is that you had no mana since the start. Why you ask? Well, because of bad luck.』
『Bad luck? Did he just say bad luck?』
Akio couldn't believe it. So, the source of it all was his bad luck? He couldn't believe it. He refused to believe it. His eyes started to get blurry and wet.
『Now, now, don't cry. You will make me look like the bad guy here. See now, I generally don't show preferentiality, but this time, the case is just too sad. Hence, I will grant you a whole another type of magic!』
『Another type of magic? Before that, you will give me an ability? Just like that?』
Akio was doubtful. He wasn't even sure if it was reality.
The god-guy snapped his fingers.
A golden-black aura started to envelop me. A warm-fuzzy feeling started filling up my core.
『And, you are done! The magic I just gave you was Space-Magic. Also, it is up to you to learn how to use it. Oops, We are out of time. Be sure to use it well..........』
As he said that, darkness swallowed Akio and he closed his eyes.
***
It was morning now. He slowly woke up to the sound of his alarm clock. Yawning, he stretched his hands. He sat on the side of his bed while scratching his stomach.
『Finally, awake, are we?』
He got a cold chill. He recognized that voice immediately.
He looked up slowly and saw his brother going through his shelf in his room. Seeing his brother, all his worries started flooding his mind. What is he here for?
Brother looked back at me and forced a half-smile.
『Don't be afraid. I haven't even done anything yet. Let's go. Father is calling.』
『Wh-』
His voice wouldn't come out. His head thought of all possibilities why his father would call him. Out of all, his mind kept going back to the no-ability reason.
Despite all his doubts, he decided to follow.
He got off his bed and started following his brother who was already on his way to father's chamber.
*tap*
*tap*
*tap*
There was no more conversation between those two. The sounds of their footsteps echoed in the hall which for some reason, made Akio all the more nervous.
He had a million questions he wanted to ask but kept quiet.
『Here we are.』
The sight of that brown door absolutely terrified him.
『What if.....?』
He was at wit's end. He mustered up all his courage, stopped breathing, and opened the door.
His brother shouted from behind.
『Akio, has arrived, as you wished, father』
A deep voice having a certain weight to it answered.
『Good work.』
