Eijirou and Izuku were sitting in a small cafe in a tucked away corner of a close knit town. The restaurant was a front for a Yakuza money laundering operation run by the villain Kaine. The heroes were in plainclothes, as this was an undercover operation. Pro Heroes Deku and Red Riot don’t generally do undercover work, but seeing as Kain has been a long term problem they needed to take a different approach.
Kaine’s quirk was causing problems for the Hero Commision. They had the ability to manipulate time within the limits of 24 hours. They can pause, rewind, and fast forward, affecting everyone's memory but their own and others with time based quirks. Because of this particular detail, there is information about Kaine, though it is limited.
According to the Commission the Pro Heroes had fought Kaine before, and succeeded, whether they remember it or not, making them the only ones eligible for this mission. So here they are, dressed not as Red Riot and Deku, but as Kirishima Eijirou, and Midoriya Izuku. In order not to compromise their cover, they can't talk about the mission. They have to make small talk.
Eijirou and Izuku were friends outside of hero work, sure, they went all through High School together, and were in the same class the whole time. They talked plenty, and about a lot of things. But they were almost never alone. Eijirou mainly hung out with Bakugou, and Ashido, and their friend group, whereas Izuku mainly stayed with Ururaka and Iida. They hung out in groups, and mingled, but one on one conversation? That was new to the pair.
It would be an issue for them to stay silent, since they were sitting at a table with coffees together. Izuku always had one eye on Kaine from where he was sitting, and Kirishima had eyes on the exits. All their bases were covered. Except for the actual cover aspect of it.
Eijirou breaks the uneasy silence, “So… What’s your favorite color?”
Izuku’s eyes widened a little bit in surprise, “Huh?”
“I mean, we have to make conversation, so I figured we’d start simple!” Eijirou smiled.
Izuku cocked his head, “Oh, yeah, I guess that does make sense, doesn't it.”
“So what is it?”
“What”
Eijirou laughed, “Your favorite color, Izuku.”
Izuku’s breath hitched at the sound of his first name. He knew it was necessary. Their hero names were off the table, and his last name is well known to the public. But it still caused a small pang in his heart. “Green. But I guess that much is obvious. ”
“Yeah, I could probably have guessed that,” Eijirou spoke, “It’s weird that we’ve known each other for so long but we never really hung out. Like we hung around with Bakubro, and Ochako, but never just us. Isn’t that crazy?”
“Yeah I guess, so. We’ve been busy though. With all that we went through in high school , then jumping straight into hero work, it does kind of make sense.” Izuku spoke, his voice quiet.
“Well, I mean, we have the chance to talk now, we might as well get to know each other while we can.”
“Sure! What do you want to know?” Izuku smiled, his voice still meek.
“I mean i can’t ask the usual small talk questions, cause we’ve known each other for so long, so i’ve got to think of something new. It’s like we’re friends, but we don’t really know each other. I know who you are, but I don't know what you’re like I guess.”
“I feel the same. How do we get to know what we’re like, then?”
“I’m not completely sure.”
Izuku began to speak, but got distracted, tracking Kaine into the backroom, and went silent.
Eijrou noticed the change in expression and went stiff, double checking all the entrances to the cafe. The Cafe’s familiar bustle was the same. The same people coming in and out, talking to each other, the same orders being made. Nothing had changed. Except Kaine was out of sight, and that changes things. The heroes knew that this was a possibility, that they wouldn’t be in sight the whole time, but it never hurts to be alert right?
Except, sometimes it does. When a couple at a table nearby looks at them, because of the sudden silence. Izuku leaned across the table, smiling coyly, to whisper into Eijirou’s ear.
“Kiss me.”
Eijirou’s eyes widened, before he schooled his features into something neutral. He opened his mouth to speak, but Izuku beat him to the chase.
“Public displays of affection make people uncomfortable, it’ll draw away suspicion.” One of Izuku's hands left where it was planted on the table, to rest on Eijirou's jawline.
Eijirou knew what Izuku was asking for, and logically it made sense, most people don’t just watch two dudes make out. Generally they look away. It was Eijirou’s own feelings getting in the way. He’s wanted this for a long time. He always had a little thing for Deku, but now that they have been working together lately, it's only grown. Eijirou always thought his crush was a small thing that would blow over. Like sure, the boy was attractive, I mean look at him, he’s absolutely jacked! But that didn’t mean he needed to catch feelings.
Regardless of his inner panic, Eijirou turned his head to press his lips to izukus. He’d thought about this so many times, and never did he believe it would happen. Now that it finally has, he could only revel in the feeling. The warm lips against his, the hands on his jaw, holding him close. He brought his hand to the back of Izuku’s neck, tangling it in the hairs there, nearly moaning when Izuku's tongue poked at his lips. He immediately opened his mouth to let Izuku explore as he pleased. He swallowed down Izuku’s soft moan, when he sucked on the other boy's tongue. When Izuku pulled away with a nip at his bottom lip, Eijirou unconsciously leaned in for more.
Eijirou looked to see a wide eyed Izuku. Their eyes met, and neither of them wanted to look away. The only reason they did was the ring of the chime on the cafe entrance. Both of their attention was immediately back onto the mission, when they saw a dark figure heading out the door.
Kaine.
They couldn’t lose sight of him. They needed to follow him, and maybe figure out where he’s going, but still stay discreet. This was purely an intel gathering operation, and so far they had nothing other than he pretends to be a waiter, and apparently only works part time.
Eijirou stood up with a light smile, “Come on Izuku-Chan, let's go, you’re finished with your coffee right?” He reached out a hand for Izuku, who nodded, and walked out of the cafe, hand in hand with Eijirou.
They continued to walk together, feigning the familiarity of a couple, but they were both tense. Both because of the mission, and because of the newfound tension stemming from their kiss only moments ago.
Izuku was the first to break the silence, “Does your agency have a car near? Mine doesn’t keep them cause I just jump,” he whispered. “We need to be able to follow without breaking cover, and he’s got a driver.”
They worked well together. Izuku always had eyes on Kaine, and Eijirou always had eyes on their surroundings, efficiently keeping each other covered. Neither of them looked at each other when Eijirou spoke. “There’s one around the corner for emergencies. Let's go.”
Eijirou let go of Izuku's hand and pulled him closer by his shoulders as they turned a corner to make it easier to whisper to each other. He opened his mouth to speak, but Izuku beat him to the chase. The smaller boy was now looking directly into Eijirous eyes, not at Kaine. “He’s noticed us.”
Eijirou’s eyes flicker over to Kaine momentarily, before leaning against the wall of the alleyway they had just entered, pulling Izuku close to him once again. “So… Public displays of affection?” he chuckled, and leaned forward to capture Izuku's lips with his own.
This time, however, they couldn’t get distracted. They were kissing idly, but still listening for Kaines footsteps, to make sure suspicion was sufficiently thrown, and they could continue with the operation.
This, however, took longer than expected. They Could no longer keep the kisses quick and chaste as they had been. Eijirou removed his hands from where they rested on Izuku's shoulders, and chest, opting ro let them roam slowly, whispering between kisses, “Is this okay?”
Izuku nodded, ever so slightly, before running his tongue over Eijirou's bottom lip. He opened his mouth, immediately submitting to Izuku’s will. Eijirou nearly let out a small moan when izuku bit on his lips.
They stayed like this for what felt like hours, but in reality was merely moments. When they finally heard a car door close, Eijirou opened his eyes to make sure Kaine was the one entering the car, which was about to leave its place on the curb. Just as the vehicle pulls out, the two boys break away, near breathless, and rush to the car, telling the agency’s appointed driver to follow the villain's car.
Once they were settled in, riding in the back seat as the driver followed Kaine through the city, they were able to relax. Though neither of them could make eye contact.
Izuku’s mind was racing. Did I just kiss Kirishima for cover? Twice?? There is no way he felt the same way I did right? I mean, it’s just me, and he’s never given me much attention before this, why would he now. It was just for cover. It has been scientifically proven that more often than not people will look away from displays of affection in a public place, so it made sense to use that to our advantage and draw attention away from our own faces. Right? Maybe I’m just projecting, and did it out of my own selfishness subconsciously? It could be that-
“Midoriya?” Eijirous spoke, snapping Izuku out of his reverie.
“Huh?”
“You okay? You were kind of out of it for a second there. I could barely tell what you were mumbling.” Eijirou smiled softly
“Oh, umm… sorry it’s nothing. Just thinking is all.” Izuku looked away from Eijirou. He couldn’t bear the thought that he may have taken advantage of him.
Eijirou was curious about Izuku. It was rare that he kept things to himself. He usually said all of his thoughts out loud, so when he didn’t tell Eijirou outright, he was almost worried. Though it was brushed away quickly when he let all of his other thoughts catch up with him. He kissed Midoriya Izuku tonight. Twice. Something he’s been thinking about at every gathering, every drunken party game, every boring gala, for years. Something he barely allows himself to admit is something he thinks about is not reality. And he doesn’t know what to do about it. So they remained in the car, in silence. Chasing after a Yakuza Money Launderer, like it was a normal thing to do after making out in an alley.
The driver was trained to be a good tail. To keep out of sight, but still within range of the target, so the heroes didn’t have to worry about that. They just had to sit there, while the driver did their job. This gives them way more time to think than they were comfortable with.
Eijirou was having a hard time not looking at Izuku. He was having a hard time not looking at his unruly hair, and soft face. His strong scarred arms, and broad shoulders. Lord, the way Izuku had to manspread to be able to fit his thighs in the seat was killing him. All he wanted was his hands back on that body, like they were before. Feeling the muscles move in his back, as Izuku touched him in return.
On the other hand Izuku was having a hard time looking back at Eijirou. He couldn’t stop thinking about the enormous hands on his body. How Eijirou’s frame practically covered his whole being while he held him close. He could feel Eijiou’s eyes on him, and he was sure if he looked back, he wouldn’t be able to control himself.
He knew there were more important things to be thinking about. He should be strategizing, figuring out how they were going to apprehend Kaine without him just rewinding his way out of it. He knew he should be thinking about how he’s going to manage the reports for this mission, because he’s never done an undercover operation before. But even trying to avert his thoughts to those things, it’s all he can do not to launch himself across the car the second their eyes meet.
Then the car swerves, slamming him against the door and Eijirou against him. And now, they both have a lot more to think about.
Crash!
Then Izuku's world went dark.
