Romulus walked over to the table on the far side of the room to retrieve some notes. In his hand now is a large notebook filled with notes and other medical diagrams falling out.
He clears his throat, “As my brother has stated we believe the creature is one of the smaller ones because of its smaller bone structure. I believe we have a few others for comparison, right Remus?”
“Yeah we do but it's only the leg bone, I’ll go get it,” Remus opened a large cabinet and retrieves a large bone, only of which I can assume is a leg bone, and hands it to his brother.
Romulus takes the bone and places it down next to the corpse, “This is only the thigh bones but as you can see it is already the size of the creature's whole leg. But that’s not all regarding this creature, I studied its bones a little more last night. Now I know that it's not exciting but the joints on this thing suggest that it walks on two legs!”
“That is interesting but what else were you going with this Romulus?” I hold my arms into each other looking at him more confused now.
“I was getting here Jessica. But as I was saying, I also analyzed the joints of the other bone we have. I found that they are extremely different!” Romulus holds up the larger bone, “This one walks on four legs!”
“You can get all that from looking at bones and joints?” I ask.
“Well, it's the same with you Acers looking at creature tracks in the dirt of smelling the blood to see how long ago something was killed. But bones just show us how it might have acted and looked,” Remus piped up from his spot leaning against the wall.
“Yes thank you for that brother, but yes we can understand that. But I find it so interesting that these creatures I have next to each other are the same in everything but the way they look. It is baffling because most things like this have at least a defining trait that they all share, at least externally that is,” Romulus cracks a slight smirk and runs over to an area that has a bunch of test tubes and lab materials.
“As you know our family does have magic but it's the, uh well, not attacking type. The kind where you can do everything else but harm,” He says awkwardly
“Yes, I know that, it is much more malleable in that state, your mother can raise dead bodies. And now I think in my time off you boys have developed your magic to serve a scientific purpose, am I correct?” I ask them.
“Yes you are, and now we get to show it off to you in our findings. So first thing if first, our magic has let us compare and see the DNA of certain things to see if they are different or the same-“
“It is hard to explain, but please just get on with it brother,” Remus interrupts his brother's tangent.
I mouth the words “thank you” to him. He responds with an ok sign he made with his hands.
“Well ok then, so I compared the DNA of both creatures and so know what I found? Human DNA! I mean most creatures have a small amount of human DNA, the most amount found in were-creatures and vampires,” Romulus rummages through a pile of papers on the desk and brings it to me.
“All my findings are in here but we still need to do many more tests… it is also so strange that all the heads were torn off of the bodies.”
“Yes, it is also annoying that the facial structure cannot be analyzed” Remus adds.
“Hmm there a lot for me to consider here, I was told to come and ‘talk to you boys’ but I know in reality that she wants me to find damning evidence of you boys being behind the attacks, but I am not going to really do that because of Natalia’s negligence. But the information you guys are giving me right now is pretty damning, like the fact you have not one, but a few body parts of the monsters that are attacking the town is a little hard to ignore,” I shrugged at them.
Their faces change to a look of uncertainty.
“But that being said I am going to lie and say nothing boys, I don’t think this research is a crime but I think it could help us later maybe. But the fact that only a few of the body parts have been found is maybe just a part of their nature. Survival of the fittest maybe.”
They let out a breath like they were unsure about if I was going to turn them in.
“We both are happy that you won’t turn us in, but I want to ask. What changed Jessica?” Remus asks me.
“I don’t understand what you mean Remus. Please explain,” now confused, I folded my arms up.
“Well if anyone was found doing something bad you would just turn them in, remember you turned in Beo and Victoria for sneaking out, on many occasions. With no remorse, if it was others, remember?” Romulus chimes in.
“I have no idea what you are talking about boys,” My face twists into a smile.
I could feel the marks being to rise from my fingers, thankfully they are covered. But I want them to stop talking about this, now.
They just shoot each other a look and nod. I can tell they dropped it. Once I see them nod, I feel my marks retreating.
Remus clears his throat, “Well, seeing as this meeting is over I think it might be time for you to head out Jessica.”
“Yes, it was nice seeing you again Jess,” Romulus smiles.
“Alright I will head out, it was so nice seeing you boys again! Also next time I come over I want to hear about your little boyfriend Romulus!” I wave the boys goodbye and head out.
