Identity V - The Mysterious Camera World - Book 1

Ch. 13: Lunar Phase

Ch. 13: Lunar Phase

Mar 14, 2022

Meanwhile, in the Golden Cave, Helena, Murro, Yidhra, and Joseph were watching the light battle above. Michiko had gone up to investigate, but Joseph was worried that she would get caught in it. But in a flash of light, Lucky’s light disappeared. “Did they win?” Murro asked. Yidhra had stacked her followers on rocks to get them higher and was attempting to see farther. “I think they won!” she exclaimed happily. “Hooray!” Helena cheered, spinning in a circle.

Suddenly, feathers started raining down. “Feathers?” Joseph asked, catching one. The color was a beautiful silver, like the moon, a very familiar color. “Is this… from Aesop?” Joseph questioned. He felt worried for the poor boy, but he had faith in him. Soon, a light shone from the sky, and everyone looked up. There, Emily, Michiko, and Aesop floated down, seemingly like angels from heaven.

“Oh my God are we dead?!” Murro screamed, then faked passing out. “-_- No, if you were dead you would be a soul right now,” Emily answered, then said, “Oh, Yidhra, can you hold Aesop for a bit? At least until he wakes up?” Yidhra smiled and took the boy in her arms, cradling him gently like a baby. “Why do you need her to hold Aesop?” Joseph asked. Emily smiled, an idea in her head. “I want to give him a little surprise.”

***

“Mm… Yidhra?” Aesop woke up, her face being the first he saw. When he turned around, he saw Emily looking at him. “Aesop, I have a gift for you. But for the gift to work, it needs an enormous amount of energy. The only person who has that is you, as Exorcist. So, I ask, are you willing to give up your power for my gift?” “Well, it’s not like I have a use for it anymore. We defeated Lucky, after all,” Aesop shrugged, then held out his hand, Emily taking hold of it. A slight wind and light magic came from their hands, and Aesop’s eyes widened in surprise, his silver pupils reflecting the twinkling light.

Aesop seemed tired again after they released their hold, and Emily smiled. She then turned around, moving her arms up gently, and the same light and wind from before came back, swirling around and dancing off her fingertips. Aesop watched the swirls with a bored expression, that is, until they floated away, towards the one place he couldn’t bear to look. But he couldn’t look away, and he felt a mix of deep emotions in his chest as the magic danced around the blue-clothed corpse.

Though the magic may have looked weak, it was strong enough to carry the body up into the air, swirling and growing brighter. A bright flash momentarily blinded everyone, and when the light grew weaker, everyone was shocked to find that the boy was no longer pale and limp. He seemed full of life and was wrapped in gold and white clothing. Not a single dry eye was seen as the magic tilted him upright and stood him on the ground, supporting him.

‘Mere words cannot explain this beautiful scene,’ Michiko thought, her vision blurred with tears. Aesop slowly walking towards Eli. Eli giving him a small smile. Sharing a heartwarming hug. Everyone bursting into tears. A beautiful moment indeed.

***

Walking back towards home, Eli and Aesop’s hands never let go of each other. The same could be said for Michiko and Joseph. The others were ahead of the couples, all asking questions and touching Emily’s wings and hair. Michiko smiled, leaning her head onto Joseph’s shoulder. He stroked her hair, smiling as well. Michiko turned her gaze towards her child, who was having a conversation with the silver boy. Though she couldn’t hear their words, she could very well see that they were happy; and that’s all that mattered.
