Skye
The trapdoor opened and I whimpered. I was still hurting from the last beating Jefferson had given me and I was weak from hunger, but my mind had gone numb by this point, the pain of their betrayal fading into the background as survival once again took the forefront.
“Little one, what have they done to you?”
I whimpered again. His voice. I’d begged and pleaded for him, for them, to come. For weeks, but they hadn’t come. Because they didn’t care. I was just a toy to them.
A hand tipped my head up, but I kept my eyes closed, not daring to make eye contact with him.
“Look at me, little one. Look at us. Show us we aren’t too late.” Antonio’s sickly sweet voice echoed in my head, but I didn’t respond to the order. I couldn’t take the emotional whiplash from them.
“I’m okay. You don’t need to worry about me. I am fine. The baby will be born in a month and you’ll be able to send me on my way. Please leave.” I whispered softly. I pulled my chin from his grip and pushed myself to my feet. Turning away, I opened my eyes and began making my way to the other corner.
“Baby?” The harshly whispered word came from Conner. “You are pregnant?” He asked, his tone laced with pain.
I wrapped my arms around my protruding stomach. “Like you didn’t know. It’s why I’m down here in the first place.” I muttered.
“Sweetheart, look at me, please.” Conner implored. “We had no knowledge of your pregnancy or even of you being held here! Believe me, Skye, we would have returned the moment we heard the news if we had been informed.”
I could feel him reaching for me and I curled in on myself. “I tried to tell you, both of you, so many times. I screamed for you to come for weeks.” My voice broke and I carefully lowered myself to the ground. “I just wanted you here… until Jefferson said you just wanted me for the baby. He taunted me about it, then told me what you said, giving them orders on how to deal with me.” I took in a shuddering breath and winced when my ribs cracked. “It’s okay. I understand. You just want to grow your pack and I’m a human omega, a baby maker. I have no real meaning to you.” I bit back a sob. “I just wish you hadn’t made me believe you wanted me, that you,” I cried out when I felt arms wrap around me, pressing into the bruises that littered my body. “AHH! Let me go! Umph,” I whimpered as they held on tighter. “It hurts.”
They released me and I curled up on the floor, shaking. My hands went to my belly and I once again let tears fall. Two different hands covered mine where they rested.
“W-why did you let them hurt me? I j-just wanted to be yours. I just wanted to be w-wanted. I felt wanted for the first time since my m-mom died. I thought it was real.” I rolled to my knees and pushed myself to my feet. “I thought it was real! I thought you thought it was real too!” I practically screamed at them. “All the lies you told me, the ones I believed because you told them to me, because I trusted you. You made me trust you and you turned your back on me. I TRUSTED YOU!”
Pain shot through my abdomen, doubling me over. I cried out as I pitched forward. Arms that I had missed were suddenly wrapped around my body, lifting me and I found myself once again cradled against Conner’s broad chest. I clenched my eyes shut and wrapped my arms around my stomach.
“Something is wrong. Antonio, fetch your coven doctor and a human doctor; I do not trust my pack at this moment. Until I have dealt with them, Skye will need to be under the protection of your coven and those who were with us.” I hummed at the rumbling vibrations of his voice against my cheek.
“I agree, love.” Antonio’s cold hand caressed the other side of my face. “I will return as quickly as possible, little one.” A small breeze was the only hint of his leaving.
Conner began moving, but I kept my eyes closed and my arms wrapped around my stomach, not giving into my heart’s desire to open my eyes and take in one of the men that I had fallen in love with. To wrap my arms around him and beg him to never let me go again.
“Sweetheart… Skye… my love…” He cleared his throat as his voice cracked and spoke again. “Please, open your eyes. Let me see that you are still here.”
At his pleading tone, I let my eyes open, but didn’t look at his face or speak.
“Thank you.” He pressed his face against my hair. “I am so sorry for what my pack members have done to you. They are awaiting our judgment whenever you feel up to it.”
I shuddered, but still said nothing.
