5 minutes later, I reached the hospital ward where my brother was. As soon as my mother saw me, she pulled me into her arms and sobbed her eyes out.
“It’s good to see you Tegan,” Mum told me.
“It’s good to see you too Mum,” I replied.
“How is he?” I looked at Liam, he was laying in a hospital bed with his eyes closed and was surrounded by a few different monitors.
“The same as before,”
“Dad not here yet?”
“He’ll be here as soon as he can,”
“I’ll stay with you until he arrives,” I decided before we both took a seat by Liam’s bedside.
A few hours later, Dad arrived and was happy to see me under the circumstances. Liam is his priority at the moment.
“Tegan I’m so glad you’re here, we’ve all missed you especially Liam,” Dad said after giving me a hug. “He hasn’t taken your departure very well,”
“Well then, when he wakes up................... I’ll spend more time with him,” I promised.
“That’s a great idea. I know you don’t live with us anymore and we aren’t your biological family but we love you as our own. We should spend more time with each other,”
“I’d like that,” I said and Dad pulled me into another hug.
“You are ok living on your own aren’t you? I mean you’re ok with money?” Dad asked.
“Yes. Actually I’ve moved in with my hu- I mean boyfriend,” I replied, I almost said husband.
“You have a boyfriend?” Mum asked in surprise.
“Yes,”
“Who is he? He is treating you right isn’t he?” Dad demanded.
“His name is Cole, he has his own law advice bureau and he treats me like a princess,” I made the last part up as I have no idea what Cole is like or how he will treat me because he hasn’t changed back to a man yet but he’s been a perfect baby so far.
“I want to meet him,” Dad said firmly.
“Of course you do and you can meet him soon,”
“Good,” Dad replied. That’ll be interesting, a human Dad meeting my Demon husband. I’m not sure Cole will want to meet my family though or if it will be safe for them to meet. Cole has a fearless reputation by the sounds of what Diago told me, he could hurt my family easily. I guess I’ll find out if that is true when I meet the real adult Cole.
Another few hours later, the Doctor had some news for us.
“Mr and Mrs McGuire, I have some good news,” the Doctor began.
“What is it Doctor?” Mum asked eagerly.
“Liam is showing good signs of improvement. I have no doubts that he make a full recovery. It will just take him some time to wake up,” the Doctor explained.
“How much time?” I asked.
“Well...........,” the Doctor scratched his head. “If he keeps on showing signs of improvement then he should wake up by the end of the week,” the Doctor replied.
“Thank you Doctor, that’s great news,” Mum said.
“You’re welcome,” the Doctor answered before leaving the room. Mum gave a sigh of relief and smiled before turning towards me to say
“You here that Tegan? Your brother is going to make a full recovery so you will have to keep your promise,”
“I promised didn’t I? You know I never break promises,” I replied.
“Great! Liam will be pleased when he finds out he’ll be seeing you more,” Dad said.
Suddenly my phone vibrated from my jacket pocket, it was a text from Diago.
Can I pick you up now? Cole’s crying without you the text message said.
Ok I text back.
“Is everything alright?” Mum asked when she saw me turn away.
“Yes everything’s fine but I’m going to have to go. I’ll see you tomorrow,” I promised.
“Ok see you then,” Mum smiled even though her eyes were full of tears.
“Bye,” Dad said before I left.
I waited outside the hospital for Diago to take me home. I had missed Cole all the time I was at the hospital and I knew he must have been feeling anxious without me.
2 minutes later, I spotted Diago’s car. Wow! That was quick. I walked over to his car and opened up the passenger seat where a crying Cole sat. As soon as Cole saw me, he held his little arms up for me to hold him. I picked him up and sat in the passenger seat with Cole in my lap, he had stopped crying by then but had tears on his cheeks. I wiped them away with a tissue carefully.
“Sorry I was gone so long Cole but I did miss you,” I apologised and kissed Cole’s cheek quickly before turning to Diago.
“How did you get here so fast?” I asked curiously.
“Well............ When we got home, Cole was still crying and he wouldn’t stop. He wouldn’t eat or drink anything so after a couple of hours, I decided to drive back so Cole would think you told me to collect you and that certainly got him to shut up. When I sent you that text message, we were only 2 minutes away but knowing we were on our way to you, Cole’s tears returned,” Diago explained to me with a role of his eyes.
“Oh Cole, I’m so sorry,” I stroked Cole’s cheek gently. The poor thing was suffering without me.
“How is your brother?”
“He’s unconscious at the moment but the Doctor said he’s showing good signs of improvement and should be awake by the end of the week,”
“That’s great! You must be relieved,”
“In a way yes but I also agreed to spend time with Liam when he’s better. I can’t for long because I’m a Vampire and won’t age,”
“You’ll have to stop seeing them within the next 10 years or so,” Diago explained.
“I know but what will I say to them?” I asked with a sad sigh.
“I don’t know but Cole and I are used to moving around every 10-15 years so we’re bound to think of something by the time we have to leave here,”
“I hope so,”
“Or you could tell your family the truth and stay here a while longer,” Diago suggested.
“They would hate me if they found out I’m not human,”
“They won’t if they love you,”
“I can’t be sure of that so telling them isn’t an option,”
“You could control their minds,”
“I’m not a Demon Diago,” I shook my head at him, how could he have forgotten already?
“I know but Cole and I are so we could make your family accept you,”
“You would do that?” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes if Cole didn’t want to do it himself,”
“Thanks but their acceptance wouldn’t be real then,” I said just as Diago parked up outside the house.
I thanked Diago for babysitting Cole.
“It’s no problem, he’s my best friend. Call me if you need me to do it again or if you need anything else,” Diago said.
“I will do,” I said and stepped out of the car. Diago waved before driving off.
I stepped into the house with Cole in my arms and went straight to the kitchen. I hadn’t eaten since this morning and I knew Cole hadn’t either.
I ended up cooking Salmon pieces, boiled potatoes and some vegetables. I filled the plates and placed them on the dining table. We both ate quickly because we were hungry and Cole managed to keep his clothes clean, for once.
When I was finished, I fed Cole what he had left to eat before washing up and heading upstairs to bed. We had a little cuddle before Cole’s eyes began to close from sleepiness.
“Goodnight Cole, I love you,” I said before my eyes closed and I fell into a deep sleep.
