You trip and land on your left knee. As if you didn’t have enough on that limb’s plate. You mumble a curse under your breath and try to stand back up. You twitch as you try to stand. Shuffling can be heard from afar. Who would've guessed? It was the demon.
It made an indescribable noise, one you have never thought was humanly possible, then again, that thing was nowhere close to human. It advanced closer to you. A wicked grin close to that of a Cheshire cat. Eyes open wide, gleaming with delight. A face that looked pleased with its prey. The face was like a sign as if to show that you gave a grand performance.
Who knew that the human body could possibly be this useless? It wouldn’t move an inch, not even a centimetre if you tried. “You await your final breath, don’t you?” he sneers. “Just give in, you should’ve known you’d lose before the chase even began.”
You stare up to the skies and mutter the word, “Why?”
It responds with only a few words, none with pity,”When I lay my eyes on someone I want to devour, I’ll be sure to see it come true.”
You, a young adult, have stumbled into a forest. Something otherworldly is behind you, preying on you deep into the night. Will you manage to escape, or will you die trying?
