Kaihou and Yuri sat in the limo, the younger staring out the window. He sighed, having to return to the Kabashito clan's headquarters after that fiasco a week ago was embarrassing.
"C'mon, let's go." Yuri pulled out an umbrella to shield them from the rain and walked out the door facing the street, Kaihou followed suit. They were asked by their father to settle the issue with the Kabashito clan after Kaihou was caught taking pictures of the trade agreement between them and the Albrechts, a rival to the Munasawagi clan.
The siblings were escorted in by two guards, Kaihou flinched seeing the one who chased him from before. Nonetheless, they proceeded to the main room to greet Godfather Kabashito. The room was dim, and evoked the traditional Japanese culture it was born from with tatami flooring and Kabashito himself kneeling with a hat and shadows covering his expression.
"Ah, the Munasawagi children, I assume you're here to settle things?"
"Yes." Yuri answered, nudging Kaihou in the side to say his line.
"A-Apologies. I acted irrationally and thought my father would need to see paper proof to know you were conducting other affairs at the moment and couldn't reach a negotiation with us."
Kabashito stroked his chin. "Your father is a hard-to-convince man, I understand that."
Yuri sighed until he continued. "But, considering the hassle we've gone through, it's only fair that you give us something of value in return... you did get away with those images."
Although Kabashito couldn't see it because of their umbrella, Yuri looked at her brother with a death stare before responding to him. "Alright, what is it that you could possibly need? If you couldn't reach an allyship with our clan I'm assuming it's physical or monetary."
"$150,000 and we leave you alone."
She bit her lip. "Easy..." Kaihou knew that tone of voice, his sister was unconvinced they weren't looking to ambush the clan using the money as evidence of laundering.
On the drive home, Yuri looked out the window, and so did Kaihou, wanting to avoid further discussion. If he spoke, Yuri would ask him to explain things to their father, if he didn't, it'd be her job.
"So..."
Crap. He pretended to be asleep, but Yuri was already unconvinced as he made a faint banging noise resting his head on the glass.
"You speak to that boy again?"
No response, but his breathing stopped for a moment.
"You can stop pretending to be asleep, I'm only deaf in one ear." She gestured to the hearing aid in her left ear, which she blames on the noise from her pistol, but what Kaihou assumes was because of her blasting music on only one earbud.
"Fine. But no, I haven't."
"Why not? You clearly like him, I've never seen you so nervous around someone since Elise."
"Shh Shh Shh!" He stomped his foot on Yuri's side, making her laugh as she tried to move it away.
"My god, you would not stop talking about her in high school. 'Do you think Elise would go out to Prom with me?' 'Does Elise think being in the Light Music Club is uncool?' Such a fucking nerd."
"Stop it." He plugged his ears with his fingers to silence her, red with embarrassment.
"Too bad she didn't like the gang war stuff, you could've gone long term."
Kaihou took his hands out of his ears briefly to muffle a groan of misery. "I think I scared Quentin off because of that too."
"I think I did." She shrugged. "If he got as far as taking you to the Penthouse he obviously has no clue who we are, is he new?"
"Yeah, just that day as far as I know, his place was empty the night I slept there and completely furnished the next day. He's a painter I think, tons of canvases around his house. Probably why he can spend so much without thinking."
"A rich artsy boy, you shouldn't let him go."
He chuckled. "Just my type, huh?" Kaihou lifted his head up and looked out the window, the rain appeared as though it cleared out of the core of the city with all it's bright lights. The water refracted the colors brilliantly on the cold gray and black buildings.
When he wasn't thinking about how much he wanted to leave, the city was actually pretty beautiful, like an enchanted forest was reshaped in a space-time paradox.
"You have to tell dad about the money and bait."
He immediately slammed his head on the window again. "Motherfucker."
