Sparks of flame against metal lit up the corner of the room, where Brigitte welded the last bit of metal to the armor joint before laying it with the rest of the pieces. She was thankful the damage wasn’t as bad as Brigitte's original assessment. The last mission did a real number on it. “Rien, you really need to be more careful.“ She mumbled to herself. At least the upgrades should make up for it.
With that, Brigitte slipped off her goggles before taking off her earphones, rock music blaring, just as she hit the off button. Brigitte noticed the time on the clock was well past noon. That explained the sudden growling in her stomach.
She stretched after standing up and started making her way to clean up. The sound of footsteps and soft voices from the hall stopped her just as the door opened. There stood Winston with a tall, elegant woman with dark skin and hair, dressed in a blue, grey and gold slit uniform and high boots. But what caught Brigitte’s eye was what looked like a sleek mechanical arm on the woman’s left side.
“Oh, Brigitte.“ Winston said in a surprised but friendly tone. “Since you are here, I’d like to introduce our newest member, Satya Vaswani. Who has agreed to work with us from Vishkar. She’ll be sharing the engineer workshop with you and your father for now.“
“I’m Brigitte Lindholm, but just call me Brigitte.“ Brigitte said with a wide smile on her face, holding out a hand to shake.
Satya looked between Brigitte and the hand, her mouth gave a faint twitch of disgust. It took a moment for Brigitte to realize she was still wearing her grease covered gloves.
“Sorry about that.“ Brigitte replied, taking off the gloves and tossing them to land messily on her workstation. Then she offered the hand again in good faith.
This time, Satya returned the handshake. “You may call me Symmetra.“ She said, her voice commanding respect.
Brigitte figured Satya would be a tough nut to crack, but hoped to be friends considering they would share spaces. She knew papa would not enjoy dealing with a Vishkar employee. “Nice to meet you, Symmetra.“
Though then there was a small, awkward pause between the three until Winston cleared his throat. “Now that introductions are done, I’ll have to excuse myself and Miss Vaswani. Business matters and all.“
“See you both around then.“ Brigitte said.
Symmetra nodded and went off with Winston. Brigitte waited a few moments, watching both of them go around the corner. Most likely to Winston’s office or something. Though that was not her business, besides her stomach had other ideas. “Guess it means food before showering.“ She said to herself, but it would be best to clean up at least.
After a quick wash, Brigitte made her way to the mess hall, deciding on what to make. Brigitte walked in to hear her father and Reinhardt conversing.
“The new architect lady is quite pretty.“
“Pfft. She’s one of those Vishkar lackeys. Every single one I’ve had the unfortunate chance of meeting thinks they are above it all for ‘the greater good’.” Torbjorn said. “Greater good, my ass.“
“Papa, that also might include the fact that they’ve tried to buy out the guild.“
“They will never get their grubby hands off something our family built up from our own hard work.“
Brigitte frowned slightly, but she understood her father’s gripe. “Still, maybe we should try to give her a chance. I mean, we’ll be in the same workshop for a while, might as well attempt to get along.“ Brigitte said, going over to prepare a sandwich. “Winston introduced us and she seems a little ridged on the edges. But give her time to warm up. Or I’ll tell Mama.“
“She might have got you there, friend. That’s a threat not to be taken lightly.“ Reinhardt said. A hardy laugh escaped his lips as Brigitte plopped herself next to them.
To change the subject, Torbjorn cleared his throat. “Anyway, how is the armor repair going?“
“I got it repaired. Also added an extra power source for the shield, so it should hold out for an additional twenty seconds. Even when we connect ours together. I’d like to test out the durability tomorrow.“ Brigitte said with a grin. “Though Rein, you should still be careful. There is only so much that armor can take if you push it.“
“You continue to amaze me! You’re the best squire a knight could ask for.“
Brigitte scratched the back of her head before taking a bite of her sandwich. “Thanks.“ Brigitte said, then turned to her father. “Also, I need to try the shield attachment for turrets.“
“And she gets it from me.“ Torbjorn laughed. “I’m really proud of how far you’re advancing. Nevertheless, we can work on that tonight after dinner.“

Hanzo slid his key over the scanner at the door of the briefing room. This was his third visit, for small informational things, but this would be his first mission for Overwatch. He had received a message from Winston to meet him, but the giant gorilla wasn’t here. Hanzo took the time to wander about. It still amazed him how well stocked Overwatch had been in the recall that quickly. Then again, he personally knew one benefactor that supplied them. Which surprised Hanzo. Akari may have had her hand in many lucrative businesses, legal and illegal, but never in anything like this sort. But he also knew how much she hated Talon, especially Doomfist. He couldn’t exactly blame her. Over the past couple of years, Doomfist tried recruiting him after several times of trying to influence the Shimada clan. And of course into her territory.
“My apologies. Something came up that needed to be taken care of first.“ Winston said, lumbering into the room behind Hanzo and planting himself in one of the large seats. “Though now on to the business I wanted to discuss. Take a seat.“
Hanzo nodded. So that was probably the reason for the shuttle landing not too long ago. But he became serious.“I prefer standing. What do you need of me?“
Winston shrugged before going to his tablet. After several moments, a globe projection hovered over the table. Dorado popped out in a small window. “I’ve been receiving what may be a recall answer, but I’ve also had enemy activity as well in the area. Sending in too many people might tip them off. According to your dossier, this would be perfect for your first mission.“
“I’ve been there before and have a few old associates I can get in contact with.“ Hanzo said, crossing his arms in thought. It was quite some time since he was there, but at least he had something to work with.“Shouldn’t be difficult. When do I leave?“
“The day after tomorrow, first thing. Miss Oxton will fly you out at 8am and arrival is estimated around 8 that evening.“ Winston said. “She’ll have to fly to a safe location once you land, but you’ll have contact with her. Also, I’d like to receive reports on your status as much as possible. I’ll provide a communicator with a secure line before you leave.“
Before Hanzo could respond, Winston continued. The gorilla slid another tablet to Hanzo. “One more thing. I have a slight idea of who might be. So you have a potential advantage. Study these and return them before you go on the mission.“
Hanzo took the tablet, casually glancing over the two names of the files. First was CODENAME: Soldier 76. A vigilante who targeted and eliminated several cells of terrorist gangs, assumingly on his own. He had heard in passing through Akari and her group. The other name he knew, an old sniper that was once a head member of the original Overwatch, Ana Amari. Hanzo had admired her skills when he was younger. But as far as sources said, she died or went MIA after a mission went badly. Though it peaked Hanzo’s curiosity that those two could be working together. If Amari was still alive, that is.
It would certainly be interesting to find out.
