I knew I had to get away immediately or they would finish the job but how was I supposed to get away when I was surrounded? They weren’t going to just let me go but I had to do something, divert there attention to something for a second. A second was all I needed if I ignored the pain that was decreasing by the minute, I would be able to lose them.
The only problem was how to distract them. Their eyes were on me, I had to get their attention elsewhere. I looked to the ground in search of anything I could discreetly grab and throw to get them to look away from me for a second. I saw a rock behind me, I put a hand behind my back and saw they were no longer looking my way. This was my chance, I quickly grabbed the rock and threw it away which they all heard and looked towards the rock like I had hoped they would. This was my second, I was already running away before they turned back to notice.
“Hey,” I heard behind me. I didn’t stop as I knew it was them. They were already following me. Because it was dark, I used my full speed to run. There was no chance of bumping into any humans at this time and if there was, it would be too dark for them to see me. Humans have poor eyesight in the dark but I don’t. I can see clearly as if it were day. A great perk of being a Vampire, especially in situations like mine when you’re being chased by others during the dark hours of the day.
As the time went on, the pain continued to decrease until I felt nothing, the bleeding stopped which would make it more difficult for them to track me as they would no longer have a trail of blood to follow but there would still be a faint smell of my blood in the air. My wound is already healing but I can’t stay in these clothes because the longer my blood is on them, the longer my attackers will follow me. I increased my speed as much as possible but I knew they were still following me. They weren’t going to stop, they wanted me dead. Why else would they attack me?
I never stopped, I kept running until I was sure there was enough distance between us. I couldn’t stay running forever, I had to stop somewhere but I couldn’t stay out there where they’d find me. I decided to stop at a random house before knocking on the door frantically while hoping the person was home and would help me.
Nobody was answering but I knew they were home, the light were on and I could hear the tv on. It sounded like the person was ignoring me and had no plans on answering the door. Just when I had given up and was about to turn around to try a different house, I heard the tv sound stop and footsteps approaching the door. I sighed in relief and hoped this was it. I would get the help I needed.
When the footsteps reached the door they stopped and the door slowly opened. My eyes widened as my eyes instantly met with the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Silky smooth blonde straight hair, green orbs and a cute little nose. Her slim build was dressed casually in a white top, blue jeans and black slippers. She looks cosy and hopefully one day will make the best cuddle buddy. She has got to be my mate. I wouldn’t find anyone else this attractive, heck I’ve never been attracted to any other woman until now. I really hope she is the one I have been searching for but I have to snap out of it. I need her help right now and can find out if she is my mate or not later. I shook my head and spoke
“I’m sorry to bother you m uh miss but I’ve just been attacked. Can I please come in?” I hoped. If she doesn’t help me, I’ll have to do this all over again at someone else’s door which I don’t want to do.
“You’ve been attacked?” she spoke in the most enticing voice I had ever heard as she looked at my bloody clothes to see the wound I was holding, the pain is barely there anymore but I can’t help but hold it still. “Are you ok?”
“I’ll be fine once you let me in, they are on their way. Please,” I pleaded. The beautiful woman moved back to let me in. Thank the heavens. I staggered inside, it was weird to walk with the wound and bloody clothes. “Thank you,”
“You’re welcome Mr?”
“Chance, you can call me Chance,”
“Nice to meet you Chance, I’m Everleigh,” Everleigh? What a beautiful name for the most beautiful woman. I was disappointed when she began to walk away but it didn’t last as I began to fall to the ground and everything went black.
When I came round, I could feel someone’s eyes on me, I opened my eyes to realise I was laying on a couch and sat up to see Everleigh was right in front of me clutching my shirt with a guilty look. She looks even better up close but what the hell is going on here? Although I don’t mind her being this close to me. I grabbed her wrist to ask
“What are you doing?”
“I just wanted to check your wound, you were unconscious,” Everleigh explained. Checking my wound eh? Why does she look so guilty? Maybe that wasn’t all she was doing according to her reddening cheeks.
“There’s no need, my wound is already healing,” I dismissed. As good as it felt to hold Everleigh slender wrist, I reluctantly let go and moved away to sit on the other couch but Everleigh’s eyes never left me, not even for a second. I’m not used to all this attention. She’s been staring at me since we met but I don’t mind it.
“How did it happen?” Everleigh asked.
“Well I was in my home town up north. I was returning home from work when I realised I was being stalked by a couple of hooded men. I could see they had weapons and tried to lose them but there were too many, they cornered me and one of them stabbed me. I managed to distract them and got away but I didn’t go home. I immediately left town and found myself here but I saw them follow me here,”
“Why didn’t you go home?” Everleigh asked with a confused frown.
“Because the town has been under attack recently, people are being murdered left right and centre. About a month ago, I came home one day to find my parents dead,” I shuddered at the memory of coming home to find my parents gone. “The men after me are probably responsible, I knew if I stayed I would suffer the same fate since they’d picked me so I ran,”
“I’m so sorry for your loss,” Everleigh apologised. “You can stay here until you get back on your feet,”
“Thank you Everleigh,” I thanked Everleigh.
“You’re welcome,” Everleigh replied before showing me to the guest room where I would be staying until further notice. Although I am relieved that Everleigh has let me stay here, I have to lay low to make sure I am safe. Even though I am pretty sure I am. If my attackers were going to find me, they already would have. I am safe here, for now.
When Everleigh left the room, I made myself at home on the bed despite my instincts telling me to go to Everleigh which was a good sign, it means she is likely to be my mate as I had hoped. The only question is why she can’t sense that I am her mate? I haven’t had a chance to properly figure out if she is my mate. I arrived here injured with the aim to get help which I succeeded in but then I passed out. I need to find out fast if Everleigh is my mate or not, I am fully healed now so there’s nothing stopping me, not really. If Everleigh is my mate then I’ll be happy. She is beautiful and exactly the kind of mate I imagined for myself. I can’t get her out of my head since I saw her for the first time. She truly is a beauty.
The door bell ringing interrupted my thoughts of the beautiful woman downstairs who was most likely my mate. I heard her answer the door to her Dad. What is he doing here? It could create a problem if he realises I am here. It could jeopardise my safety and alert my attackers to my presence which I can’t risk.
