After a long meeting of Newton glaring down his sister and wanting to punch her square in the jaw, we head over to their mothers house their aunt sits off to the side against the porches banister her eyes closed. As Mac passes a hand hitting his shoulder sharply, he hisses snapping his head towards her and releasing a guttural rumbling growl.
“Don’t even think about it Maci I’ll call your boyfriend.” Lifting his hand, he rubs his shoulder for a second. Turning back towards the door he stomps inside a smile upon her face as Lilith steps up to her.
“Auntie, Newton is being a little shit!” She jokes pointing a finger towards Newton who currently was mumbling under his breath in thought. Lifting his head up he hums and looks between them.
“What?”, “Don’t worry Newt your sister is being a little sore ass.” Lilith lifts right hand to her chest a playful shock on her face. “Ooh, I like him Newt you better keep him.”
“Other way around.” I respond as Newton’s mouth opened and closed a blush making itself onto his face. The quirked brow against his aunt’s face doesn’t surprise me. Lilith head into the house as his aunt steps in front of us a look between us before gripping Newton’s collar.
Checking the edges of his collar her eyes snap from him to me. Mouth opening and closing for a second, gapping for a minute before Mrs. M’s voice broke the awkward gawking.
“Let him go sis.”, “Fucking finally!!” She shouts making Newton and Mrs. M jump a bit. “Don’t fucking do that!” Mrs. M shouts pushing passed us, hitting her sister as she passes. “What was that for Edith?!” She shouts and like children they make their way inside. A smile making its way onto my face as I grab Newton’s arm and pull him inside.
‘I missed this, Newton’s pack may be a small one, but it is well known. His father made that so before passing away. Only a few hunters have ever tried to go after them. Each ending either dead or so scared they would never look at a regular wolf the same way again.’
Edith takes a seat at the head of the dining table as we step inside, Mac to her right, and her sister in the second chair to her left. Lilith motioning for Newton and leaving me at the doors frame. They both return shortly after with a smaller man the almost palish complexion a contrast to both their freckled tans.
“Will you be joining us for dinner or just standing there?” Edith finally questions me as I snap my attention from them. Nodding slowly, she motions towards the chair nearest to her sister, taking my seat Newton falls into the seat across from me and next to the smaller man. Mac’s large hand laying against their leg a soft smile upon curly almost wild orange locks stares back up at him.
Dinner moved through calmly the food a familiar match of meats and veggies that only Edith could make up for such a quick notice.
“Could you pass the salt.” Mac motions towards Newton who eyeballs the feast for a minute his hand finally finding the salt and handing it off to him. Lifting his foot, he nudges my foot while I take a bit of some surprisingly spicy porkchops.
Nudging his foot back a smile is visible through the fork in his mouth as Mac hands who I could only assume was his partner the salt, his eyes looking towards the back of his wrist nodding slowly as though preparing for something. After another hour of cheerful talking Mac gets up from the table nodding towards Edith as his hand runs by the others shoulder.
“Time for us to head to the bar. Can’t keep it closed tonight.” Mac mumbles, grasping his plate as his partner gets up taking his plate and following behind him.
“You both please be safe and call me as soon as you open up.”, “We will Ma.” Mac spoke letting Edith pull both into hugs checking them over before they made their way out of the house and into an old rustic truck.
“Do you think Mac will tell Oliver about what we are about to do?” Newton questioned looking back at his mother who all but shakes her head.
“Most likely he’ll figure it out on his own or his sneaky ass will pop up somewhere.” His Aunt spoke shaking her wrist as she starts to take her plate and some of the empty plates in front of her towards the kitchen.
“He may be sneaky my dear sister, but dear Oliver is not that good.” She responded catching her shoulder and staking a few more plates on her pile. Cleaning up we clean up the plates and wrap up leftovers before a hand finds the small of my back.
“Well, we have a long trek back to the cabin ma well be back tomorrow and maybe if you want, we will all head out to see everyone.”, “No sleeping in.” Newton nods ushering me towards the door. Out of the corner of my eye a picture catches my eyes.
“Your Dad is freaking huge. Is being big boned hereditary?”, “More of a first-born Alpha thing I think.” Newton responds stopping at the door his shoulders coming up a bit. “Does that count for his wolf form as well?”
“Yes, my oldest is the next leader of the pack once I pass and with it, he shall be the supposed tank of the family.” Looking back to Edith a soft smile plays on her lips as she lays a hand on the photo. Newton out of the corner of my eye seems to deflate a sigh hitting my ears.
“Well, you both must get going the moon is rising faster each passing day.” Edith spoke calmly, pulling Newton into a hug. Pulling away she looks to me and I give her a quick hug the look on Newton’s face worrying me as we step out of the house. Once out of range I take his hand, stopping him in his tracks.
“So, are you going to explain why you got so pouty or will I have to kiss it out of you?” I joke as he turns to me, his mouth quirking a bit as he shakes his head.
“It’s weird.” He starts pulling his hand away to turn and wave it around himself. “Never meet the old man but it feels like I missed something, something only Mac and Lilith know.”
“Oh Newt.” Taking his shoulders, they drop with my fingers. “They aren’t keeping you out of the loop. Whatever you think get it out of that pretty little head of yours.”
“Then-“, “Naha puppy stop. Look at me, whatever your thinking stop right now.” Cutting him off, I take either side of his face. “Your just as much Alpha as your brother and your old man would have been proud of you as much as he would be of him.”
“Your pretty good at pep talks.” Newton grumbles, laying his cheek against my right palm.
“Why thank you.” smirking, one of his hands take mine. “Why don’t you freaks take the puppy love somewhere else.” A familiar voice snaps towards us, making both our heads turn to them. Groaning, I roll my eyes as Garrett steps out.
“What are you doing in my woods?” Newton pulls away from my hands, stepping between us a brow raised as Garrett chuckles.
“These aren’t going to be your woods for long.” Garrett sneers fingers tight against the butt of a worn looking rifle. Holding it tightly as he moves his glaring eyes towards me.
“Well, that isn’t going to happen Garrett so why don’t you get the fuck out before you get your ass kicked.”, “And who the fuck is going to do that?” He snaps at me as a strange squeak of metal draws over to us. Looking back Lilith is strutting over a wicked smirk upon her glowing eyes.
“Looks like we got little problem baby bro.” Stretching the loud resounding pops from her back echo through the once quiet woods. “Any reason he’s here?”
“Thinks our woods are his.” Newton snaps, Garrett moving to point the rifle at Lilith as she steps between us her eyes staying on Newton before turning towards Garrett the smile never once falling.
“Oh, if that’s it he might want to learn what’s in ‘OUR’ woods.” Rolling her shoulders a loud resounding shout stops us, an older woman grabbing the stock of the rifle and pulling it back.
“What in the hell do you think your doing?” The woman scolds Garrett who fumbles with his words, tsking she turns her attention to Lilith. “Excuse him, he knows little about what a private property is. We will get going.” Releasing the stock of the rifle she all but ushers him back through the woods not once giving either of us a chance to rebuttal.
“Was that?”, “Must have been.” Lilith growls, “Party pooper.” Turning to us she saunters back to wards the direction of the house, raising her hand to wave us off. “Night!”
“Night!” I shout back, confusion plan as day as I look to Newton, the same confusion on his face as he shakes his head. Walking off towards the cabin I swiftly catch up. “That was-”, “Interesting.” Newton cut me off his eyes a soft glow as we walk, the crunch of leaves under sole as the cabin finally comes into view.
“What do you want to do? Nothing is really open, and we’ve only been up for a few hours.”
“What about a movie night?” I question him, pulling the keys from my pocket and with a resounding click push the door open.
“Sounds like a plan.”
