Glass continues to stay unconscious on the ground. Hali and Uncle Earl began to argue with each other. I was distracted. I kept my stare on the red hair girl in the picture that I was holding. She looked like the girl in my dreams, but I never saw her face in my dreams. Am I just being paranoid? Wait, she had red hair. Was she related to the woman that attacked me at the school? I messed my hair in confusion.
Suddenly, the two hostile voices in the background got louder. Uncle Earl slammed his fist against the table. I looked up and the two of them were having a screaming match, to see which one can yell louder at the other. Scanning the room, there was just chaos. We were hiding in a dirty, vacant apartment building. Glass, the one who tried to kill us earlier, is passed out on the floor. These two are just yelling at each other, without any care in the world. I mean, think about it. This is hiding? We were probably going to be found with these two immaturely bickering at this moment. I can just imagine a whole SWAT barging in right now pointing a shit ton of guns at us and telling us to put our hands in the air. Then there’s this picture, it might be a different person. I didn’t get the chance to see her face in my dream earlier.
Feeling the rage boiling inside me, I took a nearby empty glass bottle and threw it against the wall. The glass shattered. The two adults silenced and looked over at my position. Frustrated, I stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind me. Outside the door, I slumped and fell to the floor and just pressed my two hands against my face. I groaned. The door creaked open, Hali stood by the doorway. Her face looked guilty.
“Juvia,” she began to say, “Do you want to take a shower? The bathrooms here should have showers since they are vacant. Uncle Earl will go out and buy some new clothes and food for us. I’m sure you are hungry since you haven’t eaten since this morning.” I looked up. Hali’s face had a fake smile on trying to comfort me. Feeling bad, I just nodded. Slowly, I got up and walked to a nearby apartment room.
It was empty and dusty. I peered into the bathroom there was a shower, no bathtub. Wait, there isn’t any soap either. Quickly, I checked the washroom cabinets and drawers. There was only a block of soap. I didn’t have much of a choice. Turning on the shower faucet, I stick my hand in the water to check for hotter temperature. Several minutes later, the water temperature changed from ice-cold to hotter body temperature. I pulled off my clothes and looked at my naked body in the mirror. There were scars all over my body. Looking over my scarred body, I remember the pain again. Shivering from the coldness in the bathroom, I grabbed the bar of soap and open the package. Tiptoeing, I walked into the sprinkling water and began to clean myself.
Hali is so reckless. She brought this guy back for information. I didn’t know who she was. Uncle Earl trusts her, so do I, but I feel like it’s because we didn’t have a choice. These people out of nowhere with superpowers are trying to attack us. How did they even infiltrate the police force? Thinking back at the scene when Hali and I entered the motel, they didn’t even look like normal police officers. Like a group of SWATs from an action movie. I stood in the showering water for fifteen minutes, wasting water. As a result, the temperature began to turn cold. I grabbed the bar of soap and began scrubbing my body. First my shoulders, then arms, armpits, belly, under my boob. Not sure how to wash my hair I just rubbed the bar of soap all over my head and lather it. This continued for several minutes. After I finished I rinsed off my body and hair, I began rubbing my hands all over. I was shivering because the water temperature was turning colder by each second I wasted inside. I should have just focused on cleaning myself instead of thinking so much in the shower.
Finally, when I finished, I stepped out and the water on my skin and hair absorbed into my body. Picking up my shirt I gave it a whiff, it smelled like sweat and blood. Not wanting to put it on, I walked out of the room naked. I snooped around and there were no new clothes around. Since Hali did say Uncle Earl was picking up new clothes for us, I walked back to the lounge with a kitchen towel that I found to cover the front of my naked body. Trying to speed walk, I didn’t know if anybody was living in this building. I didn’t want anyone to see me naked with only a small kitchen towel covering my front.
Short of breath, with every step, I tried to walk faster. Finally, I reached the lounge door. I swung it open and slammed it behind me quickly. Hali was just sitting in one of the chairs, staring at the picture that I also stared at earlier.
She looked up and laughed, “Did you run around naked?”
“Dude, there’s no towels or clothes. I only found a bar of soap to use to clean my body.” I embarrassingly answered. Hali kept giggling the fact that I walked into the lounge with a tiny towel on. I turned red, felt frustrated. She picked up her large bag that she had stored in the car before the road trip.
Unzipping it she pulled out a white t-shirt, shorts, and underwear, she handed it to me and said, “This is all I got. We don’t wear the same bra size since mine is bigger than yours, so you just got to make do with whatever we got.” I rolled my eyes.
I swiped the clothes from her hands and walked to the corner of the room and hid behind the pillar to change. After changing I walked away from the pillar and sat down next to Hali by the chairs. She looked at me and placed the pictured back into her pants pocket. I looked at her and sighed. “What?” she asked.
“It’s just I feel like there are times you can be so caring and helpful. I’m grateful for what you have done for me and Uncle Earl, but then… you can be crazy reckless.” I answered as I put my palm into my hands covering my eyes while shaking my head.
She twisted in frustration, “Well I’m sorry for trying to protect you.” She retorted.
“No, it’s not that. It’s just I feel like I need to know you better. We were only together for what? Two days! Like within the two days you can have an unconscious little boy just lying in the middle of the floor, while we hide in Surrey in a vacant ass apartment building. Why did we need to take this guy anyway? What are you not telling me?” I interrogated.
We stared at each other without blinking for a couple of minutes. I held my stare. She blinked and then sighed. Hali turned her body towards me to make it easier to converse with me. She placed her elbow against the chair arm and rested her face in her palm, sighing. “Why do you always know when something is up? You cautious little lady. So, what do you want to know about me?” she asked. I didn’t even know where to begin. Silenced I sat there, I looked away to concentrate what questions to bring up to her.
“Where did you come from? Like, I know Cultor Nemorum and Creaturae but where did you come from? Why are you protecting us? You can just stay in the kingdom and continued to try to protect my mother.” I began interrogating Hali.
