(Chapter 7 continued)
To my despair, the moment was ruined as a loud bang shook the entire structure of the Pack house. I let out a loud growl, my hackles rising as I threw myself protectively on top of Berlin. Some of my personal belongings fell from their shelves above my bed and onto my back, but I barely felt them, instead focused on the onslaught of sparks throughout my limbs as Berlin curled himself up underneath me. He let out a heartbreaking scream that made me bare my teeth as my fangs dropped, the only thought running through my mind being to protect the small man that cowered underneath me.
I couldn't help my heart from fluttering at the thought that this meant he at least trusted me in some way. He trusted that I would keep him safe.
"Osias, get down here! It's ferals! They are attacking!" Ortiz alerted me through our link. I cursed under my breath and closed my eyes as the vibrations ceased before pushing myself up to my hands over Berlin's body. My mate was still shaking like a leaf and letting out sounds that showed just how terrified he was. Just the thought of leaving him here alone to go fight made me to want to vomit. However, as an Alpha, I had a duty to uphold.
I leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head before mumbling against the soft strands.
"Kitten, I have to go. There was an attack. Stay here-" I began to instruct Berlin, although he cut me off once more, his voice frantic and his eyes wide as he looked up at me.
"NO!" he screamed out, wrapping both of his thin arms around my bicep and yanking me back down onto him. He began crying out, his body wracking with sobs as he shook his head violently. "NO! You CAN'T go! I-I already lost M-max, I can't lose you too!" he choked out, hiccuping as his eyes pleading as he looked up at me. The sight of his sudden tears rolling in salty streaks down his cheeks leaving me breathless.
"P-please!" I was confused, my brow furrowing as I looked back down at him, suddenly not so concerned about my Alpha duties.
Max?
Who the fuck is that?...
Wasn't that the name of his former Alpha?
