He arrives at Jack’s front door, his car not in sight. Hm, he must not be back yet he thought, inserting his key in the door, unlocking it and entering the house. Places his bag on the floor, and flops onto the couch. While he waits for Jack to get home, he scrolls through tv just watching random channels. 

The door clicks open, Ethan turning his attention towards the now open door. Ethan shoots off the couch to help Jack with the dinner. Jack nudges Ethan with a smirk on his face “So ?” Ethan looks at him confused for a second, then grins. “I start tomorrow.” 

Jack eager, without thinking pulls Ethan into a tight hug. “Congrats !” Ethan hugs him back, smiling like mad. Jack pulls away “Sorry, I-“ “It’s okay, we’re friends aren’t we ? And friends hug.” Ethan smiles brightly, this was the first time Ethan reassured Jack. 

“You’re right, friends do hug.” Jack loved seeing Ethan this happy. He wished for Ethan to always be happy like this. Why would anyone want to hurt such a loving, kind boy ? The thought makes him agitated, but he shakes the thought away and continues dinner with Ethan. 

“Oh, after dinner we’re going out. I’m gonna buy you school uniform and now work uniform. Are you okay with wearing my clothes when we’re home ? I don’t have enough for uniforms and clothes at the moment.”

Ethan: “No, you don’t need to buy me anything ! I can wear my school uniform to work, and when I get my first pay check I’ll buy uniforms.” 

Jack: “Ethan, you can’t survive off of one uniform. I’m buying you more uniforms. Also, I’m your friend, friends buy each other things and help each other out.”

Ethan now speechless. “Okay well, can I At least pay you back when I get payed ? I’ll feel bad if I don’t.” 

Jack: “I would rather you buy yourself something nice with it.” 

Ethan: “But I want to pay you back. I’m already not paying you back for the bed you’re going to get. Also the food, gas and electric. I’m getting everything paid for, so at least let me pay you back for this.” 

Jack now convinced agrees. They dish the dinner and sit down to eat, more comfortable with each other now. Maybe since they’ve now gave themselves the ‘friend’ label, but they’re also getting used to each other so that’s another reason to it.
