A woman was crying out for someone to help her son, who had swam deeper than he was supposed to.
"JAY BLOW THE WHISTLE!" Missy shouted out to me.
I blew the whistle and guys were coming from different directions to distract Avery. While she was distracted, Missy and I ran into the water to go save the boy. We were able to reach him before any other lifeguard.
Everyone cheered us on as we carried the boy to shore. Avery rolled her eyes at us as we were walking back to our chairs.
"First save of the summer!" I said to Missy while high-fiving her.
"And we will save many more!" she replied. "But we can't distract Avery everytime."
I thought about what she said. "We will just have to get better at getting to the people faster." I explained.
"We'll just have to pay more attention out there". She added.
We didn't have the things that Avery had. We don't have binoculars so we're not able to see far in the water.
"We need to save up for some equipment." I told Missy.
She agreed.
