The Villain Just Wants A Cup of Tea

In Which Myles Is Stressed

In Which Myles Is Stressed

Apr 11, 2022

Myles felt rather dreadful, if he was being quite frank. Dreadful didn't quite capture just how upset he was, actually, yet there seemed to be no better word to describe what he was feeling. He didn't know what he was doing. He had no idea how he could go forward from here. It was truly macabre.
After Dmitri visited, he went back into town to observe how things ran under Myles. He of course had realized that his new found status, as well as the fact that his little nation was growing, would bring attention to him. It was all unwanted, and yet it seemed as if it was impossible to avoid at this rate. However that was nothing in comparison to knowing that Dmitri of all people was watching him. He felt as if his entire heart was going to explode. What if something went wrong, and he did hurt someone. Naturally it would have been an accident, nothing more, yet that didn't make Myles feel any better. Windy sighed as he stood next to Aithe, watching Myles as he paced around his room almost manically.
"I feel as if.. we should perhaps say something to him. He has been like this since that hero left." Aithe said, tapping the bottom of his umbrella.
"I feel as if you are correct in saying that, Aithe. But I don't know what to say. I don't think I have seen Master Myles like this since... well, I don't think I have ever seen him like this. He seems anxious. Maybe my wife could come in and make him some tea."
"Didn't you say that she was already busy today making up a huge dinner to try and cheer Myles up? I doubt that she has time to come in here and play therapist. Actually, maybe that is what we should do. Is there a therapist around who works with villains?" Aithe asked, clearly trying to be helpful.
"I honestly do not know if there is. It might be worth a look." Windy responded, crossing his arms as if in deep thought. "Regardless, I am worried... do you think he maybe has feelings for the hero, hence the nervous pacing?" At that Myles turned quickly around and stared at the two, an annoyed expression on his face.
"I hope that you both are aware I can hear every single word that you say. I don't-- It is not as if I have feelings for him" Myles retorted, however his cheeks felt like they were burning up again. "It is just that he is a former classmate of mine. And for your information, I already have been looking for a therapist. The only one in town however said she couldn't work with me because of a conflict in interest. Said I should look for one who is not connected to here. As if I could just go out and find someone like that. My sister is also looking but... gods it doesn't matter. What I need is a way to ensure that nothing bad happenes while Dmitri is here. You both need to be on your best behavior. If anyone gets hurt while on my watch, it could mean death to us all. I would have to fight the hero, and then I would probably die and never be able to drink tea again or talk to anyone. Even if he didn't kill me that would mean I would kill him or something and--"
"My lord, you are spiraling. I think that is what that is called." Aithe said softly, though he was trying very hard to not worry too much. "Come on now, surely there will be no problems. We have no had any attacks lately, and both Windy and I have been very well behaved. Everyone has been well behaved, in fact. You need not be stressed, Master." It was much easier for Aithe to say this of course. He didn't have the world on his shoulders. Myles sighed and rubbed his forhead. Windy went over to him and gently put a hand on his shoulder, a small smile on his face.
"Master, why don't you go to town? Take a look to see how things are yourself. I know you are nervous about your powers and all, however I promise you that out of anyone, you are in control. I trust you more than I trust anyone else in this world." He reassured him, the dragon giving Myles a toothy grin. "You could show Dmitri that you really aren't a villain in anything more than title! Maybe even take him out to drinks or something. Wouldn't that be fun." Myles looked up to his dear friend, almost hopefully.
"Do you really think he would be willing to get drinks.. there is that tea place in town. Its really amazing. I am sure he would be able to find something he would like." Myles said, seeming to have calmed down. "Yeah, that could really maybe work. I should get dressed then. Head to town immediatly. Thank you, both of you. I am sorry for losing my composure there. I know that this is stressful for all of us, however we will get through it." Myles seemed finally to go back to his normal self, at least for the moment. He went to his room and quickly picked out a simple outfit, his normal green vest with a white shirt and brown pants. After clearing his throat and waved his hand and muttered the teleportation chant. It was easy enough to travel like that when you had dominion over the area you wished to teleport to. Plus if he rode in, he was surely going to wimp out. Myles knew himself well enough.
Town was rather nice, and as of late, it had been doing extra well. The economy was booming due to the surge in population, with many of those people being traders of goods, farmers, and those who wanted the protection of the new villain. Word had gotten around to the common folk that Myles the Villain would protect even monsters from harm, and to many that was all it took. Myles smiled a bit as he stepped forward from the building he had teleported into, looking out at the bustling streets. Carriages rode by and children were playing in the streets. It smelt lovely too, much like flowers on a spring day. It was nice to know that despite everything, the community he was building up was so successful. After taking in the scene he began to walk in direction of the inn, hoping to find Dmitri there. However on the way he was stopped by a younger girl. Or at least, it looked to be a girl at first. Upon closer inspection, Myles realized that it was in fact a slime that had taken the shape of a young human girl.
Slimes were low level monsters that could, if strong enough, mimic other creatures. They were generally no threat to the public though, and were said to be great for destressing. The slime took hold of Myles's hand and smiled brightly, the cool and nearly wet touch being proof enough that this was in fact a slime and not a human. That and the slightly blue jello looking body.
"Master Myles! My name is Jino. Jino the Slime! I just moved here, in town, and what do you know, I am lucky enough to have run into you!" Jino said, clapping her hands together with a rather happy expression. "Oh I am so very happy! It is an honor you know. I heard about how you saved a young girl, and I thought if I took on a girl's form you may come help me too! And look, I was right. I found out I actually really like being a girl. Don't I look adorable? Oh, that is not the point! I was hoping that you could help me, Master Myles." She was talking fast, which was impressive enough. However Myles wasn't one to say no to someone like this. She seemed sweet, almost child like. He wouldn't have been surprised if she was a child, actually.
"Alright. What can I do for you Miss Jino?" He asked, bending down so he was eye level with her. Surely Dmitri could wait the few minutes this would probably take, right?
"I need help saving my people. You see, I am a slime. But the tribe I come from is in terrible danger. Many bad people have been kidnapping us, and too many of us don't have enough levels to be able to defend ourself. I came here hoping you would help, since you help monsters all the time! Plus, if you help, we will become your minions, I promise!" She exclaimed, her blue eyes gleaming anxiously.
"I.. would love to help you. Where is your tribe from, and who is kidnapping your people? Do you know?" This was important. Normally to take out a small group was no problem, but rescue missions were harder. Yet if he could he wanted to help this kid out. Maybe that would prove to Dmitri that he was a good guy.
"Its the big guild! The one the hero is from! They are taking us I think to make health potions. At least that is what one of the bad men said. They said that they want to make lots and lots of health potions for a big attack that they are planning. Oh Master Myles, please say you can help me!"
This certainly was a lot more than Myles had expected. He was beginning to feel stressed again, and he had only been in town for a few minutes. Gods what he wouldn't do for a cup of tea and some time to relax. Maybe he needed a vacation.
