I could only see well enough to see her white coat in the darkness of the long hallway. The lights in the hallway beside us weren't enough to completely light up her face. The floor was sticky where the boy’s blood started to dry. The sight of the blood-stained bat and the smile on her face made me angrier; I don’t know how to fight back though. I had to try though, so I pulled my hand back and realized that if I hit her on the side where she was holding the bat, it would be harder for her to swing the bat at me while I was attacking. I lunged forward and punched her in the side of her ribs. She lost her balance, only a little though. She looked surprised that a kid tried to fight back. She was only surprised for a little until she pulled her hand that was holding the bat back and got ready to hit me. If I didn’t dodge it, I would get seriously hurt. If I got hurt I would have to go to the nurse. If I went to the nurse they would find out that I broke out of containment.
She swung her bat at me and I ducked, barely missing it. I tried to step over and almost tripped stepping over my foot. She started to pick her bat up again to swing, I had to counter it. She was too far away for me to punch her before she swung at me, so I had to kick her. This should be easy enough, all I have to do is kick her wrist or close enough to her wrist to make her drop the bat. This is going to be harder than I originally thought. I can barely see her wrist, but this boy behind me is scared and if I don't at least knock her out she could beat him even more for my actions. I picked my leg up and swung it at her arm. She dropped the bat, yes! I can’t grab it yet because that kick won't distract her for long so I have to punch her again. I have to have her bend over for a few seconds while I grab the bat. I could punch her in the stomach where she would bend over in pain. I have to do this efficiently or she won’t go down for long enough.
I could do a regular punch to the ribs but that wouldn't hit any vital organs because I can't break the ribs to puncture a lung or anything. I can do a slight upward punch to the solar plexus to knock the wind out of her. I can't mess this up. I pulled my arm down and back to get ready to punch her. She started to focus again as the surprise of a kid fighting back faded. I lunged toward her and swung my hand as fast as I could to make sure that I had a strong impact. I hit her and moved away to the bat that was on the floor. I bent over to pick it up and was so close until she kicked me in the face. She kicked me as I was bent over. Was my punch not strong enough? Was it because I focused on speed and not power? Am I just weak? Can I even protect this kid?
I lost my balance and tripped over my own feet then I fell on my back. I was laying on the ground as I watched her grab the bat. I wanted to move but my body wouldn't listen to me. I just sat there and watched as she walked over with the bat in hand. You could see the intent to kill me in her eyes. She looked mad and psychotic, she was never like this during the day. She isn't the best worker here but she is from Chloe’s section so she shouldn't be that bad, right? She picked the bat up and swung it down on my right shoulder. I screamed due to the excruciating pain, she picked it up again and hit the same spot. I screamed louder the second time she hit it, I'm surprised I didn't wake everybody in the hallway up. She went to swing at me again, but I didn't want to feel that again. I had to think fast. I couldn't think though, the only thing going through my mind was the fact that I didn't want to feel that pain again. From fighting in the dark for so long my eyes adjusted and I realized I could see better than when we first started. I saw that she had a knee brace on. How did I not notice this earlier? I started kicking hoping that I would hit it hard enough for me to get the boy and run away. I don't understand why he hasn't left already, this fight has gone on for a while. While I was thinking about why he didn't leave, I could feel my foot hit something. It was her knee brace! I kept kicking in the same place, but I didn't hit it hard enough the first time and she hit me with the bat in the same spot as the other two times. How did she have such good aim? Her hitting me again made me not want to get hit a fourth time, so I started kicking even harder aiming for both legs in hopes that she would fall or go far enough back, where I can get me and the boy out of here.
I hit both of her knees at the same time and she started leaning towards the side with the knee brace. I immediately stood up and grabbed the bat from her hand, it was easier because she loosened her grip on it. I hit her over the top of the head so she would pass out. She fell on her back, still conscious, seeing how she was lying on the floor helpless and looking at her hurt knee. I wondered if she felt the extent of pain that she put me and the other kids through every day. I got on top of her and hit her with the bat until she was begging me to stop. I threw the bat out of the way and started punching her until my fist was covered with blood. I got off of her and went to the boy, who was staring wide-eyed at the body of the worker on the floor. I reached my hand out and helped him stand up. “What’s your name kid, and how old are you?” I asked him trying to see how young the kids are that the workers beat up. “Micheal, my name’s Micheal and I'm ten.” He answered me in a shaky voice “Ok Michael, which section do you live in?” I was going to walk him back to his room before I went to Chloe’s room “I live in the section with the water users. I was coming from my friend’s room when she stopped me and beat me.” He responded and started crying. I wanted to help but the water section is on the other side of the lab, so I came up with an idea. “I have an idea. I will take you back to your room safely and beat up anyone who tries to stop us, but you have to let me hide in your room, deal?” I asked him because I wasn't sure if Chloe was asleep or not and even if she is awake, she won't be by the time I get back from his room. I could stay in his room and it would be less obvious because his section isn't as close to the containment as hers. He looked like he was considering it. He took a while to decide, although I don't blame him, he just got beat to the verge of death and could be again if I was caught in his room. “I owe you so you can stay in my room.” he said with his shaky voice and tears running down his face.
