The morning sun had risen over the large buildings that surrounded the smaller apartment building Amazon stayed at, the sunlight from it peaking through the dark clouds that had been dissipating and leaking through the apartment's windows as it finally shined down onto it. The storm engulfing the city had finally began to settle, leaving behind feintly harsh winds and a drizzle of rain as the large black storm clouds moved on and dissipated, puddles and small flooding streams littered the streets and sidewalks on the city, small children splashing in them as they walked past with their parents as they walked to go to their everyday duties, children going to school and adults going to work. With a jolt of fear Amazon had woken up from yet another terrifying nightmare, quickly sitting up from his comfortable sleeping position as he gasped for air “Damn..nightmare..” he huffed restlessly as he gripped his hair in his hand once again, though stopping as he felt the sore pain it brought him. He took a few seconds to let his breathing slow and ease as he tried to think about anything else but the nightmare he once again had to go through, though no matter what else came to his mind, the thought of that nightmare stuck around like a lingering bad odor that you just can't find the origins of. As the slight drizzle of rain left over from the storm of the night before hit his window he finally felt a little relaxed but not as much as he would like, he figured that with a bit of time he might feel better, as it's not like he hasn't had nightmares like this before. He slowly stood up from his bed with a tired yawn, deciding that he really didn't want to go back to sleep if there was a chance he’d go right back into that dreaded dream, and besides, he wanted to try and get stuff done today, he still needed to go to the store and get himself some more proper work clothes and he needed to visit Milo so he could teach him how to get to hell and back, he knew that last part probably wasn't very easy at all but whether or not it was easy it still needed to be done, and he needed to leave behind the old him that put things off until the last minute if he was going to do this right, so it was now or never. After getting dressed for the day he left his apartment, texting Eleanor with a proper ‘good morning!’ and walked down the building stairs, he didn't notice his doorman giving him the same disgusted glare as before and even if he did he would have ignored it like always as today was going to be a good day, no matter what. As he made his way down to the buildings lobby he greeted his landlord, Betty, with a smile “Morning Betty!” he said, his voice a bit quiet and careful as he didnt want to startle her by being too loud or obnoxious “Ah, good morning Amazon! You’re sure up early!” she responded to him with a smile in return, happy to hear from the nicest of the people she rented her apartment rooms out too, most of everyone else never talked to her outside of giving her the rent payment and when they did talk to her they were rude, like she was evil for making them pay money to stay in the building. “Yeah, heh, I’ve got some busywork i’ve got to get done today so I had to make sure to be up at sunrise!” He said as he walked towards the door “Oh! I'm going to the shop first, do you need anything from there?” He asked as he often made store trips for Betty when he went to buy things as she couldn't really do that herself, it was a nice thing to do and it made her happy. “Oh thank you so much for the offer dear, though i’ll have to decline this time, I have everything I need!” She said with a smile as she made her way back to her office “Have a nice day!” “You too!” Amazon gave a wave, not that it mattered, and left the apartment building in a good enough mood to mostly ignore other people who didn't like him all that much. He made his way through the cities streets as he got his usual stares, glares and whispers, normal looking people treating him like he was but a nuisance in their presence, an eyesore, he was used to this by now however and did his very best to ignore it as he didn't want his current good mood to be ruined by people being small-minded and fearful over something they didn't bother to try understanding. Instead he tried to do as his friend Eleanor always reminded him to do in these situations, think of the positives, think of the people that didn’t behave like you were a stray dog to be kicked and belittled, so as he walked his mind wandered off as he tried to think of the good, the people he's met in the city that were kind to him, nice children who handed him daisies at the park or gave him a piece of candy during halloween as they thought what he had been was just a costume, elderly people who were kind enough to not immediately fear him and actually try to understand and include him in things to help him feel better, people his age who tried to be friends and even more despite the major differences there had been between them, there weren't many instances of this, maybe 4 or 5, but that didn't matter to him, what mattered to him was the fact that it happened at all, that’s what was important. He already knew that once he got to the store he’d only get more looks like this and tried to keep that off his mind, the thought of that many people all simultaneously staring at him like a big ugly spot of mold on a previously perfect slice of cheese had slightly paranoid him, having been anxious of big crowds for the exact reason of immense judging, he just needed to get this shopping trip done, in and out, just grab some new clothes, pay and leave, easy..
This is a story of 3 people. the first, tainted by corruption due to the consequences of his past actions, the second over worked and looked down upon by society, and the last struggling to get out of the hands of very bad people.
