After what felt like hours of listening to music, I felt someone shaking my shoulders and opened my eyes to peer at Kenji who had an expression filled with excitement. "Something wrong?" I said, watching him anxiously. "No!" he said, reassuring me, "But look out your window. We are about to land!" I peeked out of the small windows and gasped. Beneath us, surrounding a helicopter pad, were 5 teens my age, and two adults in bright red shirts. I turned back to Kenji, beaming. "I know. Now, I have to prepare myself for my grand entrance! Remember Kiara, first impressions are everything!" I raised my brow.
"If you want to make a stupid first impression, you do you Kenji. I'm going to let them know I'm the nicer sibling," I replied, putting my headphones into my bag. Kenji scoffed before quickly rummaging through his blue duffel back and picking out his sunglasses. As our pilot opened the door for us, Kenji pushed past me and put on his sunglasses, hanging his duffel bag on his arm. He burst through the doors and loudly exclaimed, "Greetings my dudes! Kenji is here so let the party commence!" I saw the confused looks on all the teens' faces and hid a giggle. I got my bag then stepped down onto the pad, the pilot helping me do so.
I waved at everyone with a warm smile. "Um, hey! I'm Kiara!" They all waved back at me and began to smile. I then realised who the two adults were, in the red shirts; Dave and Roxie! Last summer, Kenji and I had met them and they were so kind although, Dave was quite goofy and Roxie was a little strict. I was about to run and give them a hug when Kenji's bag flew past my face, right into Roxie who stumbled back slightly, taken back by Kenji's attitude. Seriously Kenji? My brother honestly has no respect. Kenji then walked up to a boy with a yellow hoodie and slightly pulled down his sunglasses.
"So, what's your deal?" Roxie then threw his bag back at him, the bag hitting him square in the back and Kenji face-planting into the ground. All of the teens began to laugh at him and, I did too. It was too funny of a scene to keep a straight face! A girl with watermelon-coloured, dyed hair took a picture of him, covering her mouth as she sniggered. I sighed and apologised to Roxie who had a smug look on her face, and helped Kenji up, dusting off all the dirt that stained the front of his sweatshirt. "That was your own fault. You shouldn't have done that to Roxie," I scolded, crossing my arms. Kenji raised his arm defensively.
"Well, sorry," He said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. I forgot how much of a jerk he can be to others at times. "Ok, let's go!" Roxie exclaimed, raising her hand and gesturing for us to follow. We all walked to a crimson coloured jeep and sat inside. I sat in the left corner and waited for my brother to sit beside me, but to my surprise, the boy with the aureolin hoodie sat next to me. Even so, I smiled at him, and he returned my smile. "Hi, I'm Darius!" He started, taking my hand and shaking it. I laughed, "Hi Darius! You already know this of course, but I'm Kiara!"
A tall girl with a dark, chocolate-brown ponytail sat on the furthest end of the jeep, the pink-haired girl sitting slightly away from her. Plopping herself in between, a curvaceous, short-haired girl sat down, grinning at them both. "Isn't this place amazing?" Darius continued, staring at the jungle. "Yeah! I love it here, the plants and dinosaurs are amazing" I replied, taking in the wonders of the park once again. Darius's expression seemed to brighten. "Hold up. Do you like dinosaurs!?" He asked, a never-ending smile breaking out. I was about to answer when Kenji sat right between Darius and me, cutting off our conversation.
He didn't even seem to realise what he did." What's good Brooklanders?" All of us turned to face the pink-haired girl. "It's your girl Brooklynn, coming at you from the best place ever, Camp Cretaceous!" Alright, her name is Brooklynn! What a delightful name! Brooklynn. Brooklynn seemed to be recording a video so I guess she must have some sort of vlog? "Like and subscribe to join me as I... Unbox Jurassic World!" She paused her recording and turned to face the rest of us. "Ok, I need you all to say is who you are and a little bit about yourself," She continued, now pointing the camera at me.
"And, go!" She exclaimed, smiling as she concentrated on the phone. "Hi, I'm Kiara and I really enjoy listening to music!" I said, smiling genially. Brooklynn returned the warm smile then pointed the camera at Darius. "Oh! um... I beat this awesome VR dinosaur game! I'm Darius by the-" "I'm sorry. I just can't believe... your Brooklynn!" The curvaceous, short-haired girl that sat beside Brooklynn interrupted Darius with a look of pure anticipation. She began to violently shake Brooklynn's hand, grinning broadly. "I'm Sammy Gutierrez, total Brooklander!" she made finger guns.
"Oh, and my family supplies all the meat for the park and that's how I got here!" Sammy, such a bright name! It definitely matches her bubbly personality. "Glad to meet you, Sammy," Brooklynn replied. "Um... what's a Brooklander?" Darius asked, a confused expression on his face. Probably a fan name for Brooklynn or something like that. "Oh, it's just what my online followers call themselves," Brooklynn replied. Knew it. Sammy shook her head then beamed, her eyes sparkling. "All 27 million of us you mean! kapow!" She burst out, doing more finger guns. Wow, Brooklynn is so famous!
I'm surprised I don't even know her! "Yep, that's why she's the only one who gets to keep her cell phone. She's famous," the dark-haired girl commented, rolling her eyes. Kenji suddenly pushed my arm obliviously and gave Brooklynn a flirtatious smirk, snatching her phone out of her hand, much to her annoyance. "Hold on. Rich and famous? Oh meant to be!" He took a selfie with Brooklynn who was now glaring at him. As Brooklynn glared, another boy who I hadn't noticed get in, was vomiting over the side of the jeep, looking quite ill. I hope he's alright... But, the sound of him vomiting makes me feel sick!
The jeep suddenly skidded to a stop, all of us being thrown forwards. Dave and Roxie got out of the jeep, slamming the doors shut as they defensively held up a taser staff each. "Um, Dave, Roxie?" The weak-stomached boy asked nervously, "What's going on?" "Oh, nothing you need to worry about Ben, but you should all definitely stay in your seats..." Dave reassured the boy I now knew as Ben, speaking quite seriously. Everyone apart from Ben and I leaned against the edge of the keep to watch what was about to happen. Ben stared at his lap, an anxious expression plastered on his face like a sticker. "Uh, Ben?" I said.
He looked up at me. "Are you alright? You look nervous and sick." He nodded and gave me a weak smile, then stared back at his lap. I watched him pityingly for a moment before turning to watch Dave and Roxie. I then heard rustling coming from somewhere behind me. I turned around slowly and saw a bush, quivering. The rustling became louder and louder. "Um... Guys?" I asked slowly, standing up and taking a step back. Ben and Darius turned their attention to me but the others continued watching Dave and Roxie. "Guys!" I repeated, my voice louder. They didn't look over.
The rustling became more violent until a small, dark leapt out of the bush, landing on my chest and forcing me to the ground.
