Everyone screamed and shrieked, hurriedly jumping out of the jeep, but Darius was the only person who stayed inside, staring at the Compy excitedly. I sat up and stroked the Compy's head, but I was cautious not to touch it too much, just in case it tried to bite me. "A real-life Compsognathus!" "It's so cute," I moved it closer to Darius and he cautiously stroked its head. The Compy chirped then jumped out of my hands, only to be caught by Roxie in a small blue blanket. "Crisis averted. Oh, these things are always getting out of their enclosures!" She exclaimed, putting the compy inside a cat carrier and into the front of the jeep.
"That was so amazing!" Darius excitedly smiled, looking through the glass at the Compy as I went to go sit down. "I know!" "Oh please, it took a blanket and a cat carrier to catch it. Boring." Darius turned around to face Kenji. "Scared you pretty good" He retorted, smirking as the rest of the girls giggled. I held a snigger but I think Kenji noticed as he sent both Darius and me dirty looks. Well, I am his sister, I'm meant to laugh! We continued to drive down a steep road through the jungle, marvelling at the scenery in my head. I have probably gone through this same area before, but it never ceases to amaze me!
Soon we neared the gates to camp and while Kenji was sulking, I oohed and ahhed at the sight of the gates. They were large, sturdy but had delicately made dinosaur pictures engraved with our camp logo in the middle. As we drove through the gates, Dave cheerfully said, "Welcome to Camp Cretaceous!" The jeep halted in front of the camp and oh my was it majestic! It had a modern elevator built into the tree trunk and at the top of the tree, our camp stood awaiting us! I jumped down and stared up, straight at the camp. I wanted to get a good look at everything before I go.
I kept walking forward, staring straight up until I crashed into the girl with the dark ponytail. I felt the heat coming to my cheeks in embarrassment and immediately apologised, "Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was walking!" The girl stared at me silently, she seemed to be looking right through me. I waved in front of her face and she frowned slightly. "It's fine," She said, her voice sounding quiet. I remembered I didn't know her name. She was the only person whose name I didn't know. I had better ask when I have the chance. "Um, I didn't catch your name earlier?" I smiled kindly and surprisingly, the girl smiled back. Or... I think it was a smile?
"Oh, I'm Yasmina but I guess you're alright, so you can call me Yaz." Yasmina... "That's a beautiful name," I said, absentmindedly. A light pink tinge was brought to Yasmina's cheeks and she looked away. "Thanks," She muttered, crossing her arms as she stopped blushing. "So, how did you get to camp? Did you get an invite too?" I asked, watching her in an expecting manner. A wider smile found its way onto Yaz's lips. "I guess could say that. As Jurassic World is my sponsor, they decided to invite me to this summer camp," Yaz explained. "What are they sponsoring you for? Do you have some sort of charity?" I asked, confused.
Yasmina chuckled lightly, "Not for a charity, I'm an athlete so they are sponsoring my runs and races!" She's She's athlete!? That's amazing! Yaz must be great at sports! "So, you said you came to camp because of an invite? Why were you invited?" Yasmina asked, tilting her head as she questioned me. "Well, my dad is a huge financial help to Masrani Corporations and Claire Dearing, the one who had the idea of a camp, is like my aunt and as her nephews are my only friends so she decided to invite Kenji and me," I explained, not noticing Brooklynn making her way towards us.
"Kenji? The guy who was flirting with Brooklynn?" Yaz raised her brow and stared at me in disbelief. "Yeah, that's my broth-" "Yasmina! Hey girl! Oh, hey Kiara!" Brooklynn suddenly exclaimed, coming out of nowhere. I waved to Brooklynn and she waved back before turning to Yaz. "So, as an elite athlete, how pumped are you for camp?" She asked, pointing her camera at Yaz. Yasmina frowned uncomfortably and covered her face, turning away. "Not a huge fan of being on camera..." I glanced at Brooklynn who seemed excited then back to Yaz. I felt bad for Yaz who looked so uncomfortable.
"Hey Brooklynn, maybe you should stop recording her?" I said to her, tapping her arm to get her attention. She looked at me slightly confused then continued to film Yaz. "I'm not a huge fan of being on camera! Nor people!" Yasmina muttered, turned away, and ran towards where the others were gathered. I stared at Brooklynn who looked confused, wondering why she hadn't stopped recording. If I get the chance, I'm going to ask her to apologise. I walked over to the others as Dave stood in front of the elevator shouting, "Listen up! Announcement time from your co-head counsellors!" Roxie whispered something to Dave that killed his mood, but she seemed quite smug about it.
"Okay, everyone, there are some ground rules to cover. Curfews at 8:00 pm, and lights out at 9:00 pm sharp." That's too early! Everyone groaned in disappointment apart from Ben who quietly whispered, "Yes!" Roxie continued, "This is for your safety. We are in a dinosaur-filled jungle and you must always keep your distance or you could be seriously hurt, if not worse." Well of course, who knows what could happen here. Nobody, that's the answer. "Um, define worse..." Ben asked nervously, hunching up small. I moved closer to him, smiling evilly, and whispered eerily, "You don't want to know..."
His eyes widened and stared at me, terrified I patted his arm and smiled, "I'm just joking, they have everything under control Ben." He looked relieved but still looked a little anxious. Oops. Dave pointed towards the elevator and with a bright smile said, "Cabins are up that away!" Yasmina glanced at everyone and smirked. "The first person there gets the top bunk!" She pushed my brother out of the way, to his annoyance, and ran towards the elevator. She was first. The rest of us glanced at each other before rushing towards the elevator, eager to get the top bunk.
As the elevator doors started closing, I realized Darius wasn't with us. He must be outside still, but I wonder why...
