We were all in the grazing field, stood beside Roxie's jeep. There were two typical looking gyrospheres then there was one, odd-looking one. It had four seats, one at the back, instead of the usual two seats. Darius had that look of anticipation on his face again but who could blame him for being so excited? "Yes!" He exclaimed. "This is gonna be so much fun!" Sammy joined in, jumping around on the spot. Darius walked over to the closest gyrosphere and pressed his hand against the bullet-proof glass. "We get to drive gyrospheres? Cool!" He said, Roxie, smiling at his excitement.
"Saddle up dudes and dudettes. We're going on a cattle drive, but with dinosaurs. It's a dino drive!" Dave yelled, his voice clear and bubbly. Ben walked over to Dave and Roxie nervously. "And just to be clear, all of these dinosaurs are herbivores, right?" He asked, waiting for kind confirmation as he eyed the dinosaurs far ahead. Roxie smirked fiendishly and replied. "Well, they only chewed on the last kid a little so we're like, 99% sure they are cool." Ben whimpered and backed away. I sorta pitied him. He had come to an adventure camp but was afraid of everything here.
"Don't worry, Roxie is joking," I whispered, hoping that would make him less worried. "Park personnel are moving the dinos across the field and we get to ride along behind her!" Roxie informed us, her hand moving in the direction of the herd. "Are you kidding me? DInosaur migration patterns are my jam!" Darius excitedly burst out grinning. My brother rolled his eyes at him and I knew he was about to say something annoying. "You may wanna consider a new jam, bro," He snarkily replied. Typical Kenji. He walked over to Dave and Roxie, resting his arms on their shoulders.
"So you sure these things are waterproof? Looking pretty grim out there and hair this awesome doesn't come easy," He said, earning a glare from Roxie. Darius noticed the dirty look she was giving Kenji and stepped in. "Your hair is gonna be fine, Kenji. The storm has already moved up the coast, away from us," Dave told him, Kenji letting out a small sigh of relief. "Cool! Time to show these fools what a gyrosphere master can do!" Kenji exclaimed, making his way over to one of the two-seated gyrospheres before being pulled back by Roxie. She smiled evilly. No way! You are riding with Ben, as a passenger."
I let out a loud chuckle as Kenji stared at Roxie, scandalized. "Seriously? But he's so..." He pointed towards Ben who was in the other two-seated gyrosphere. He was moving forwards jaggedly and was suddenly thrown into the glass, his face sliding down slowly. "Live it up, tough guy," Roxie snickered, her hand on her hip. I swear my respect for Roxie just keeps going up! As Kenji walked over to Ben, groaning, I giggled and he shot me a glare. Oh, if looks could kill! I burst out laughing again and he looked away in embarrassment and fury. Sammy and Yasmina got into another gyrosphere, or rather Yaz went to one and Sammy eagerly followed after her.
Brooklynn went to sit down in one of the back seats of the unusual-looking gyrosphere. Roxie came over to me with a sheepish smile. "So Kiara, because there are seven of you campers, you, Darius and Brooklynn are going to stay in the same one," She said, glancing at Brooklynn whose eyes were locked on her phone. "Do you mean in that gyrosphere then? The one with four seats?" I asked, motioning towards the new gyrosphere module. "Yes. That's our newly advanced gyrosphere, so more people can use them in gyrosphere valley. It's really quite useful," Roxie explained cheerfully, bringing me over to the gyrosphere then going back to Dave and Darius.
I smiled at Brooklynn as I sat in one of the front seats. "Guess we'll be sharing!" I said, looking back at her over the head of the seat. "Yeah, I guess so," She quite replied, before scoffing at something on her phone. "Something wrong?" I asked, remembering how she acted like this only a few days ago. It was something on her phone then, too. She glanced up at me with what seemed to be an annoyed expression. "Everything is fine," She said curtly, crossing her arms and staring out the glass. I don't think everything is fine but she doesn't look like she wants to talk about it so I'll just leave it.
As Brooklynn mumbled under her breath, Darius suddenly appeared by the other front seat of the gyrosphere. "Hey Kiara, Brooklynn. Are you guys as stoked as I am for our gyrosphere adventure?" He asked, sitting down beside me. Brooklynn rolled her eyes. "Sure, whatevs," She said, sarcasm lacing her voice. Darius looked hurt by her response so I answered. "Yep! I can't wait to the parasaurolophuses up close!" Darius smiled. "Alrighty, campers. The headsets are for emergencies. You can always reach us on channel six," We heard Roxoie say over the radio. "Let the herding begin!" Dave cheered, Darius, taking the joystick and bringing us towards the herd.
"Whoohoo!" I exclaimed, raising my fist as I stared in everlasting admiration at the dinosaurs. This was so exhilarating! "Are you seeing this?" Darius asked, staring at the brachiosaurus above us. I nodded and smiled at the brachiosaur but I then felt something hit my back. I glanced back and Brooklynn and saw she was still on her phone, her legs leaning against the back of my seat. She is missing all of this! "How awesome is this? We're like, so close!" Darius exclaimed, craning his neck to see the stegosaurus that we had just passed. Brooklyn then began to read comments she had been receiving on her videos.
"Used to be cool. You've made Jurassic World boring. Lame. Lame. No one likes you anymore..." This must have been what was upsetting her so much. I glanced at Darius and we shared a worried expression, looking back towards Brooklynn. She had a blank expression. "Hey, can you believe that an ankylosaurus' tail is strong enough to shatter bones?" Darius said, trying to change the grim mood in the gyrosphere. "Can you believe I don't care!?" Brooklyn snapped, glaring at him over the top of her phone. "Brooklynn, you don't need to be so rude!" I said, Darius, nodding his head with a frown.
Brooklyn stared at her lap for a moment then looked back at us guiltily. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry. I'm just... having one of those days," She confessed, my expression softening. I gave her a sympathetic smile as she continued. "There's a lot of pressure when your whole life is about being popular, and I'm not like you! I can't just tell a lame story and move on!" Brooklynn... Very specific choice of words there. I thought you were, apologising! "It wasn't that lame," Darius muttered, scowling at her. Brooklynn scoffed. "Trust me, it was. It totally was! But you're not even fazed! I just need people to like m-" She broke off and looked away again.
Darius gave her an expectant look, waiting for her to finish her sentence but Brooklynn just sighed heavily. "You guys wouldn't understand," She stated, sending us into silence. Thunder began to rumble and I shuddered, watching the sky darken. A bolt of lightning struck the ground, shocking me. I yelped and jumped up in my seat, holding onto Darius' arm tightly. Where the lightning had struck, a fearful stegosaurus lifted its feet into the air and bellowed in terror. This isn't going to end well...
