The stegosaurus whacked an ankylosaurus in the face, causing it to growl defiantly. I let go of Darius as he took hold of the joystick, bringing us back to the jeep. The gyrosphere doors opened and we all stepped out apart from Brooklynn, who continued to use her phone in the back seat. Dave jumped out of the jeep and walked over to us. "Hey gang, new plan. Storms getting worse so we're all going back to camp! Fun, right?" He exclaimed, making a failed attempt at keeping us all optimistic. "Aw, man!" Sammy said dejectedly. "Are you serious?" Darius asked, pouting.
Dave looked at us with an offended expression. "Don't blame me. Blame the storm," He said defensively, pointing at the grey, cloud-filled sky. "I blame them both," Roxie said snarkily, leaning out of the window. "We're not gonna let a little rain stop us, are we? When else will we get the chance to ride alongside a herd of dinosaurs?" Darius exclaimed, turning to us and making large gestures to enunciate his point. "Sorry, can't risk it," Dave bluntly replied, walking around the jeep and sitting beside Roxie. Darius tried to argue. "But Dave, I'm sure under you and Roxie's capable leadership, We'll-"
"This is not up for discussion!" Roxie interrupted, pointing her finger at him threateningly before turning on her walkie-talkie. " "Hello, hello! Roxie here. Can you hear me? Anyone?" Roxie said, static and cut-off words being her only reply. Dave and Roxie turned to one another worriedly then Dave turned back to us. "Ok, new, new plan! Storm's interfering with the radio, so Rox and I will drive ahead and tell the others we're pulling out. We'll be right back. Stay together and stay behind the herd," Dave told us, the engine turning on. He and Roxie drove off to the front of the herd, further on, leaving the rest of us by ourselves.
We all went back to our gyrospheres and just sat inside, chilling. Another bolt of lightning struck, making a petrified sinoceratops runoff. "That sinoceratops is gonna get lost, We need to go after her," Darius said, looking at Brooklynn and me anxiously. Brooklyn looked back up from her phone and said with a bored voice, "You heard Dave. Let's just chill and wait here." I nodded. "We are in enough trouble as it is so going after her might not be the smartest idea," I added, smiling apologetically. Darius wasn't backing down. "I've read everything about sinoceratops behaviour. We can get her!" He continued a defiant look on his face.
"No, let's just stay here," Brooklyn said, crossing her arms. "Plus, this could make a really thrilling dino chase for your followers," Darius bribed, smirking as Broklynn began to grin. He had won her over. "Ok, but do you atleast have a plan?" I questioned, my brow rising. He smiled sheepishly. "Not exactly, but we can just improvise!" He replied, using the joystick to drive us in the direction where the sinoceratops had runoff to. Sammy began to speak through the radio. "Are you guys going after her? I don't think that's a good idea! I've seen cattle spook before and-" "Uh-huh, let's go!" Yaz said, cutting her off. "Wait, why are we following them!?
I feel like we should be listening to Sammy and not Darius right now. The sinoceratops growled confusedly and took a sharp left, trying to desperately shake us off its tail. Regardless of this, Darius was able to bring us directly behind it. "Almost got you, girl," Darius whispered, his brows knotted in deep concentration. The sinoceratops took another turn, catching Darius off guard. We almost crashed into the rocks ahead but I took the joystick and moved it, us barely missing the rock. "Phew," I sighed, placing my hand over my heart. "Sorry, that was close," Darius said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck before taking the joystick.
Brooklynn glared at Darius from the gap between our seats then took out a piece of gum she had been chewing. She put it onto the top of my seat and I immediately took hold of my hair and moved it away. Brooklynn stuck her phone onto the gum and grinned proudly. "Voila! Instant phone mount!" She said. That was as disgusting as it was clever. "Great idea but, ew!" I remarked, chuckling. Darius stared at her, disgusted. "Gross," He muttered, looking away. "Just keep driving, Dino-nerd," Brooklynn said, rolling her eyes playfully. "Sure thing, superstar," Darius replied, smirking.
We continued to chase after the sinoceratops but Sammy's anxiety hadn't left. "Let's just everybody settle down a bit! We don't want to get too close or-" She and Yasmina suddenly screamed as Ben and Kenji's gyrosphere almost crashed into theirs. Of course, Kenji was driving. A gyrosphere master, he says. "Watch it, Ben! You almost hit us!" Yaz angrily exclaimed over the radio, looking peeved. Ben looked back at her outraged. "It wasn't me!" He yelled, pouting and crossing his arms as he glared at Kenji. "Come on! Get us closer to the dino!" Brooklynn ordered Darius. "I need to get this on camera!"
"Someone flank her on the other side, we can lead her back to the herd!" Darius informed us, Sammy making another failed attempt to get us to be cautious. Kenji then brought his gyrosphere towards the other side of the sinoceratops, causing her to snarl. "Be careful!" I exclaimed, speaking into the radio. "This isn't the way to do this!" Sammy told us, watching the sinoceratops anxiously. "I'll cut her off. It'll be fine," Darius said reassuringly. "No! We gotta calm her down! You are going to make her bolt!" Sammy yelled as the sinoceratops suddenly rose onto its hind legs, bellowing.
The sinoceratops ran to the herd and Sammy tried to take the lead again. "Listen up, y'all. We gotta get her before she goes and spooks the whole herd. Stay outside or-" "We got this cowgirl!" Kenji interjected, ignoring her words. "Relax, Darius knows dinosaurs," Yaz told Sammy, also ignoring her frantic attempts to get everyone to listen. Darius brought our gyrosphere to the front of the sinoceratops, causing her to growl ferociously. It charged at our gyrosphere, whacking it hard and sending us flying, right into the herd! We were spinning in circles, screaming, and holding onto our seats tightly.
This was a nightmare! We crashed into parasaurolophuses, stegosauruses, and all the other dinosaurs in the herd. This made them scatter, fighting one another and pushing the other's gyrospheres. "How do we stop this thing!?" I screamed, closing my eyes fearfully. We crashed into another stegosaurus then our gyrosphere came to an abrupt stop. We let out sighs of relief but as I turned around, looking over Brooklynn's hair, I saw the herd of dinosaurs. They were charging... right at us! "Go, go, go, go, go!" Brooklyn yelled while I shook Darius by the shoulders.
"I'm going, I'm going!" He exclaimed, pushing the joystick forwards just as the herd was about to trample all over us. We zoomed into the jungle as more thunder and lightning struck. Eventually, we slowed to a stop. We were alone. "I think we lost them," Brooklyn said, smiling in relief. I frowned and held my knees to my chest. "I think we lost everyone," I murmured. Darius then gasped, nudging my side. "What?" I questioned, lifting my head. "Look!" He exclaimed, rotating the gyrosphere and revealing the sinoceratops that we had been trying to chase only moments ago.
"Ok, think. Sinoceratops are fast on open ground, so we just need to corner her and-" "Brooklynn! What are you doing!?" I exclaimed as Brooklynn began to unbuckle her seatbelt. Darius and I watched her, confounded. "Making content, duh," She replied, stepping out of the gyrosphere. She pushed my head out of the way and pressed her face close to her camera. "Here we go! This is gonna be another Brooklynn exclusive! Keep watching cause it's about to get real!" She said loudly, her American accent showing strongly. "She's going to make this worse, won't she?" Darius asked me, his brow raised. I nodded and he let out a sigh. "Wait, Brooklynn, wait!" He yelled, unbuckling his seatbelt and chasing after her.
Brooklynn began to poke and prod the dinosaur, only angering it further. Suddenly it raised its hind legs, about to stamp on her, when Darius pulled her back. "Too real, too real!" Brooklynn screamed, scrambling back into the gyrosphere, kicking me as she did so. "Brooklynn!" I yelled threateningly, glaring at her. You can't just go up to a terrified animal, especially one that weighs three tons! Darius ran back inside and they tried to put their seatbelts back on, trying and failing to do so quick enough. The frantic sinoceratops charged at the gyrosphere, piercing the thick glass with her horn.
We screamed as we were lifted into the hair, and yelled as we were flung through the jungle...
