"Hey, I get it. It's hard to trust strangers and it's a scary world out there. But, I'll trust you... If you trust me. I won't hurt you," Sammy said softly, her voice calm as she brought her hand towards the sinoceratops. It growled quietly and she placed her palm on its snout. The sinoceratops, feeling safer, began to eat the leaves from the branch Sammy had dragged. The scene was so touching but... the gyrosphere was still sinking, almost completely hiding my view. Almost. "Guys?" Darius exclaimed, reminding the others that we were still here.
"Real touching and all, but we are still going to die," Brooklynn yelled, fear crawling into her eyes. The others shared looks and began to devise a plan, using the sinoceratops to help pull us out with its weight. Although by now, none of us could see outside the gyrosphere, we could hear their voices through the top where the punctured hole now sat. The light was steadily decreasing and the inside of the gyrosphere, darkening. After a few more moments, just before the mud could completely engulf us, a rope dropped inside. I tried to reach up and grab it but it was just out of my reach.
Brooklyn sighed, pushing me to one side as she stood on tip-toe and pulled down the rope before passing to Darius. Darius then began to tie the rope into a tight knot around the underside of his seat, listening to the instructions Sammy told us. We were then plunged into darkness, our sight almost completely blocked by the lack of light. When Darius finished tying the knot, he tugged the rope lightly and then we waited silently inside the gyrosphere. The gyrosphere began to shudder and shake violently as we were pulled through the murky depths of the sink-sand-like mud.
As Daylight was revealed, Yasmina's figure stood in front of the door, holding a large stick. She used it to open the door and stared at us before bursting out either laughter, walking over to Sammy and leaning her arm on her shoulder. Brooklynn was the first to come out, smiling appreciatively at the other campers before bringing out her phone. She began to record. Darius sighed and stepped out, giving me his hand with a grin. I took his hand and he helped me out saying, "I told you we would be fine." I nodded with a smile then let go, running toward Kenji and leaping into his open arms.
"I'm glad you're ok," he murmured, squeezing me tightly. "If I'm going down, you're coming with me!" I said, Kenji letting out a light chuckle. The others began to smile, a wave of relief washing over us. We weren't dead! Brooklynn then brought her phone over to us, casting the camera on our faces. "Say hi to the Brooklanders!" She cheerfully said, her American accent suddenly becoming stronger. Kenji immediately grinned, photogenicity coming out as he flashes his teeth. "Hey!" He said as I waved to the camera. "Darius, you need to be in the video!" Brooklyn hissed, peering over at Darius who was busy petting the sinoceratops.
He walked over and grinned towards the camera. "Hi uh, Brooklanders!" He managed to say, pausing to remember the name of Brooklynn's countless followers. "Now, Darius, would you mind explaining to my wonderful followers how we just barrel escaped death?" Brooklynn asked, enunciating the word wonderful. "Oh," Darius replied shortly, blinking. "I can them about how I saved everyone!" Kenji said, crossing his arms proudly. For a few moments, Kenji kindly explained to Brooklynn's followers the events that had occurred today. He stopped speaking as his voice was drowned out by the sound of an engine.
We all turned to look over at the source of the sound we had heard and, bursting through the foliage, came our camp counsellors! They drove up to us then jumped out of the jeep, slamming the door shut. "Hey look, it's Dave and Roxie! Heyy!" Sammy yelled, waving her hand excitedly. They stared at us opened-mouthed, Dave looking shocked while Roxie had an expression filled with outrage. I slowly stepped behind Kenji, using him to keep me out of Roxie's glare. Dave began to nervously bite his nails, moving to open the jeep door before stepping inside. Roxie continued to glare at us, her left eye twitching.

"You could have been killed! What were you thinking?" Roxie yelled as I hung my head guiltily. I glanced at the others and they were surprisingly unbothered, everyone but Ben and Darius who looked equally guilty. Sammy misunderstood the fury in Roxie's words and grinned joyfully. "That we found a lost dinosaur! And Darius, Kiara and Brooklynn!" She replied as the other campers grinned, nodding their heads in amusement. "Don't ask me how I did it, but I did it!" Kenji smugly smirked, putting on a brave front. "What?" Roxie asked, her rage turned to bewilderment as she turned to a proud Kenji.
"That's the funniest thing I've heard all day," Brooklynn commented, lightly punching Kenji's shoulder. "And weren't you crying at one point?" Yasmina asked with a grin as we stepped into the elevator, the doors slowly shutting. Kenji pouted annoyedly. "Hey! I helped!" He said as his cheeks went red from embarrassment. Sammy burst out laughing at my brother's hilarious expression and the rest of us joined in, Kenji glaring at us in outrage. "Oh my gosh, he's serious-" Brooklynn laughed, shaking her head. "Wow, Kenji," Darius said as the elevator dinged, the door opening and all of us stepping out into the common room.
I decided to head to the girls' dorm so I started to make my way over when someone took my hand. I turned around in surprise and saw Darius who now was frowning guiltily. "Are you alright, Darius?" I asked, concerned. "I wanted to apologise," He said while I stared, perplexed. "For what?" "For not listening to you and Sammy, otherwise we wouldn't have been in that MESS," Darius explained, anxiously rubbing the back of his neck. It seemed to be a nervous habit of his. To be fair, Darius did have a point. But either way, "It wasn't completely your fault," I told him, smiling warmly.
"You were just worried the sino would get hurt! You were doing the right thing, just in the wrong way." Darius began to smile slowly. "Thanks, Kiara, you are a good friend," He said, holding out his hands and pulling me into a hug. I hugged him back and we stayed in that position for a few seconds before the lights were suddenly switched off. I gasped and pulled back, looking around. "Who did that? Darius, did you see anything?" I asked quietly. "No," he replied. I then felt something brush against the back of my neck and I screamed, jumped back and fell into Darius, both of us tumbling to the ground.
Whatever had touched my neck burst into laughter, switching the lights back on and revealing themself as my brother, Kenji. "What did you do that for?" I exclaimed, quickly getting of Darius. I gave him my hand and helped him up as Kenji sighed. "Ha! You should have heard yourself," He chuckled. "Seriously, Kenji?" Darius said, narrowing his eyes. "What, can't I have a little fun?" Kenji asked, staring at us innocently although he was nothing but. I groaned and rolled my eyes at him before sticking out my tongue and walking to the girls' dorm. I walked and got out my headphones and sketchbook, picking out my best pencil.
I then sat down on one side of the sofas that were on either side of the room. That's when I realised that Sammy and Brooklynn were also here, sitting together on the floor by Sammy's bed. They seemed to be whispering something, giggling gleefully. I placed my things down on the sofa and walked over to them, sitting down in between. "What are you guys doing?" I asked as both of them began to grin, looking at me.
"Truth or dare!"
