“You didn’t even ask why I was here in the first place?” The blonde pouted as she folded her arms across her chest. Scarlet got up from her seat to wrap her arms around her fiancé’s waist while pulling her close.
“Why were you here in the first place?”
Lauren smiled at Scarlet’s sweet actions before speaking what she had been waiting to say, “I met Katie today.”
Scarlet didn’t mean to choke on her own saliva but she did, which made Lauren become worried for her, while she grabbed the covered glass of water from Scarlet’s table.
“Here, drink this.”
Scarlet drank the water, but her eyes moved around nervously as she avoided looking at Lauren, too scared to even know what happened after she met Katie. “I hope you don’t mind, but I told her about this.” Lauren smiled innocently as she held up the ring Scarlet had gotten her for the proposal.
The short-haired woman stared at the ring for a while before she looked into Lauren’s eyes. Her heart wanted to tell her that she had been meeting Katie too, but not as a lover and more like a friend, but she threw those thoughts out of the window when Lauren continued.
“I also told her to come to North Carolina for the wedding preparations.” Scarlet was so close to choking again, but she controlled herself since she needed to know specifically why Lauren had done that.
“O-Oh, w-why did you invite her?”
Lauren raised a questioning eyebrow as she stared at her lover, “Was I not supposed to invite her?”
“Um, that’s not it, I was just shocked.” Lauren nodded her head slowly before sighing, “You know that you can’t avoid her, and that one day or another you two should try to be friends.” Unknown to Lauren, they already were.
“I know.” Scarlet muttered slowly as she bowed her head a little.
A knock on the door interrupted their discussion and Scarlet was grateful that it did, since she wouldn’t have to talk about Katie anymore.
But, just as Stewart entered Scarlet’s office, she wished for the floor to open up and swallow her up whole.
“Oh, my baby sister.” He walked over to Lauren with his arms open wide, which made Lauren giggle as she willingly went into them. They embraced as if they had been away from each other for years.
“I missed seeing your ugly face so much.” Lauren slapped Stewart’s arm who only laughed at her fake-angry face, while Scarlet chimed into the teasing.
“Hey, hey, no calling my soon-to-be-wife ugly.”
Stewart pushed his tongue out at Scarlet mockingly which Scarlet immediately reciprocated.
“What are you doing here, by the way?” Stewart asked after he was done being childish with Scarlet.
Lauren giggled before she answered her brother, “I came to see my wifey.”
“She seems to be doing alright, a little disturbed now since you’re here.” The blonde man teased as he smirked towards his sister, who in turn pouted before looking at her fiancé.
Scarlet chuckled while shaking her head, trying to convince Lauren that she wasn’t disturbing her at all, even though she technically was. The dark-haired woman already had to finish up checking the magazine draft and now that Lauren was there, she wouldn’t even want to work.
The most frustrating habit of Scarlet’s was that once she was disturbed while doing something important, she’d just leave that work altogether. Only some kind of inspiration or miracle would make her start that work again.
Only God could help her now.
“I heard that you burdened her with a lot of work.” Lauren’s eyes narrowed questionably as she stared at her brother, who began to fidget in his place. “Well, she needs t-to do complete all her work before going on a month’s leave. How do you think I’ll manage without my best editor?”
“I’m your only editor right now.” Scarlet piped in while rolling her eyes.
“You don’t have to manage or anything since you’re coming with us.” Lauren stated as she gave her brother a glare even before he could say anything. The blonde man nodded his head frantically before looking at Scarlet, who was busy smirking at him.
“So, Scarlet can just go home right now, right?” The threatening tone of Lauren’s voice made Stewart quiver with terror as he nodded his head once again, while Scarlet was thanking Lauren on the inside.
The blonde woman turned to look at her fiancé, who was already staring lovingly at her, “Shall we go home then, we have to pack our bags for tomorrow’s flight too?” Scarlet knew better than to say no, as she silently nodded her head with a smile on her face.
“The flight’s at 3 in the afternoon, you have to be there too.” Lauren held Scarlet’s hand as she practically ordered Stewart who listened with a frown on his face.
He was wondering why he had such a scary baby sister.
Scarlet wanted to laugh at Stewart but a sharp look from him made her rethink her actions. She, instead, began to pack up her stuff as she smiled at Lauren, who was patiently waiting for her fiancé.
Scarlet thought how this would’ve gone if Lauren hadn’t shown up at the right time, since the blonde woman was the reason why Stewart didn’t make her work till late at night.
The blonde man only stood watching with a frown as Scarlet packed up all her stuff and then left with Lauren after saying their farewells to him. He could only look as his editor walked out of her own office with his sister.
Just as Scarlet and Lauren left, Clark walked into the office with a confused look on his face. He had loads of questions regarding his boss and why her boss’ boss let her go so easily.
“Don’t ask.” Stewart grumbled before leaving Scarlet’s office as well with a frown still on his face.
One thing that no one knew was that Stewart really didn’t like weddings anymore, and seeing his sister gave him happiness but at the same moment sadness.
He couldn’t help but to envy his sister’s relationship.
It reminded him of how he was still stood in the past while everything kept moving forward.
How he was still waiting while the thing he had been waiting for already moved on.
