“Aww man, Uncle Tyler said that they’ll be here tomorrow.” Blake whined as he got off the phone with his uncle. He gave Scarlet a sad look, who rolled her eyes at him. She knew why the big guy was sad, it was because he couldn’t tease her without Juliet.
Those two were practically a single unit now.
Scarlet was happy that they wouldn’t start their mindless ruckus until tomorrow which gave her enough time and privacy to be a little close to Lauren, before her family would separate them in the name of the wedding.
“Where’s Lauren by the way?” She asked her cousin as Blake came to sit down with her on the grass. The two were sat in the back yard with sodas int heir hands. The whole family, minus Uncle Tyler and the rest, were all inside cooking and watching tv. Even grandma Payne was allowed to live a little and not just lie in her bed all evening.
The sky was a beautiful hue of orange and blue mixed together as the sun was setting somewhere. Scarlet felt at peace as the wind began to blow and silence consumed the two.
“She’s inside the house, obviously.” The cousin rolled his eyes as he glanced towards the glass door separating the living room and the back yard.
“Hm.”
“You didn’t actually answer my question about Katie, and what she’s doing here?” Blake began as Scarlet laid down on the grass feeling herself release a sigh of comfort. “Because Lauren told you already.”
“Well, Lauren’s too nice, I want to know how you forgave her so easily. I mean, the woman cheated on you. Come on.”
The dark-haired woman gave her cousin a glance before sighing in irritation. “Well, we have to forgive people someday or another.”
“I’ll choose not to.” He laid down with an eye roll, while the dark-haired woman beside him sat up. “Oh yeah, then why’d you talk to Uncle Tyler? He cheated on aunt Judith too, right?”
“T-That’s different.”
Scarlet was rolling her eyes a lot more than usual as she once again gave her cousin an eye roll. “Oh please. It’s no different. Uncle Tyler knew what he was getting himself into. Katie was drunk.”
“So, you mean to say that because she was drunk you’re going to forgive her and even invite her to your wedding?” Blake replied back with a force Scarlet didn’t even know he possessed as she looked at him with surprise. It was as if he knew what it felt like to be cheated on, but Scarlet didn’t bring this thought into light as she looked away from her cousin and laid back down.
“Can we please let this go? She’s here now so be nice to her. It’s my choice, anyway, to forgive her or not.”
Blake gaped at his cousin before feeling angry for some reason.
He didn’t know how Scarlet could forgive someone that broke her heart, so easily. Surely, his cousin was dumb as well as too innocent.
He didn’t understand her and chose to get up from his place.
The dark-haired woman watched him dust his pants before walking back into the house. She released a sigh just as he went inside.
She didn’t know why he was being so emotional. It wasn’t like Scarlet was still sad over Katie’s betrayal. She had moved on and was happier than ever with Lauren. Could he not see that by not forgiving someone, you just keep the pain they caused showcased in your heart?
It’s forgive and forget. And Scarlet didn’t forget what Katie had done, but she had forgiven her, and along the way, she had moved on.
It was time Blake did too.

The family was sat around the dining table, with Lauren and Scarlet sitting far away from each other. The kids were all sitting around the smaller table that Andrew had set up before everyone had come over.
“I still don’t understand why you can’t just let me sit with her.” Scarlet whined as she crossed her arms while everyone around her rolled their eyes. Grandma Payne groaned as she took a forkful of the pasta that Wanda had cooked. “Could you all please just let the girl sit with her fiancé? I’m getting tired of her whining.”
Andrew gave Scarlet a sharp glance which shut her up but made her pout instead.
Lauren saw the view of her fiancé and smiled lovingly.
The two were sat across away from each other, both sitting at the opposite ends of the table, while Katie was sitting beside Lauren, and Stewart was beside Scarlet.
Clark had volunteered to sit with the kids as his sister had ordered him to face the humiliation of sitting at the kiddie table too, which was occupied only by Samantha, Gregory, Angela and Clark himself.
Greg was as bright as he always was as he kept offering Angela his own food, which to him was a sign of friendship while Angela kept ignoring the boy’s attempts.
“We’re also going to have to change the rooms they stay in.”
“Oh, please no!” Scarlet practically yelled as she let go of her fork and looked at her mother in horror. “I can’t survive a night without her. I-I have scary nightmares at night.”
“Scary nightmares. Pfft.” Blake muttered, but got a glare as a reply from his cousin which made him quiet. “Scarlet, if you want to marry her, you have to restrain yourself from any physical contact. Don’t you remember what happened with Kevin and Vanessa?”
From beside Katie, Vanessa and Kevin coughed on their food. The coughing duo looked at Jared, who was looking at them with narrowed eyes. “Oh, come on, we didn’t do anything.” Kevin tried to defend himself and his wife but it was futile as Jared gave them a bored look. “Yeah, and we got baby Samantha from the sky.”
“Speaking of babies, who’s gonna be having the children between you two?” Uncle Jared turned his conversation a whole 360 degrees and glanced from Scarlet to Lauren with curiosity shining in his eyes.
The two could only glance at each other and give awkward smiles.
Because, honestly, they didn’t even know who was going to be having the children between them.
“Oh, Jared, stop pestering the kids. We’ll know when it happens, and who it happens to.” Aunt Wanda didn’t help much as she slapped her husband’s hand lightly, smiling in delight.
The conversation was going down the wrong lane as Scarlet began to choke on her food and the only person available to help her was Stewart, who gave her heavy pats on the back.
“I’ve heard the butch lesbians aren’t usually the ones getting pregnant.” Laura chimed in as she glanced at Jared and Wanda with the same curiosity they held.
“Oh my god.” Scarlet muttered helplessly before glancing at Lauren, who was trying hard to hold down her laughter. This was so embarrassing and Scarlet knew it.
Vanessa and Kevin only gave Scarlet smirks as they were relieved that the conversation had turned away from them.
“I love family time, this is so much fun!” Stewart exclaimed happily as he grabbed his glass of water and raised it up as if to make a toast. The Payne family followed as they laughed and raised their glasses up as well.
“To my Scar and Laur, in hopes that they’ll take turns in having babies!” Grandma Payne exclaimed which made the mentioned dark-haired woman groan before bending down to hide her face.
“Yay, more kids!” Gregory exclaimed from the kiddie table as he raised up his glass as well.
Clark and Angela had no idea why the family was acting this way, and they had only one thought in mind, which was about how the family was so weird.
“To having kids!” Andrew chimed in as he chuckled heartily.
“This is so not how I wanted this to go.” Scarlet could only mutter to herself as the whole table erupted in cheers and toasts for irrelevant things.
This was how the Payne family celebrated. And more celebrations were to come in the near future, which was still unknown to the happy people.
