When everything was talked through, Grandma Payne had offered Carla to stay at the Payne residence since they had formed a beautiful friendship that no one had seen coming.
Blake was still steering clear from the woman as he kept remembering how she had him in a head lock and how powerful she was. He was traumatized.
Scarlet had formally introduced herself to her fiancé’s mother and was amused at how her mother resembled the blonde so much.
Blake and Katie were still on bad terms as Blake kept throwing snide remarks at the woman, who was trying her best to ignore them. She was just sad that things had turned out this way. She was regretful that Scarlet was happy and had clearly moved on, when she was still there in the past and pretty much hung over on Scarlet. It was hard to move on for her, and she was still very much in love with the woman.
Clark was busy flirting with the young Payne woman as he gave Juliet a smirk, who showed him a knuckle sandwich while Stewart smiled at how cute the woman was.
On the other hand, Angela was beginning to enjoy this trip, as she ordered Edward and Edmund around. Gregory was still happy since he had made a new friend. “Oh man, she’s like a demon.” Edward mumbled to his brother as the two had come to the kitchen to get some juice for Angela, who was downstairs in the basement playing with Gregory. The poor boy was oblivious to what he was doing as Angela told him to stay put while she applied lipstick on him.
“Who’s a demon now?” Laura asked from the dining table as she sat there with Judith, cutting up onions, while Wanda was stood at the counter, making some salad.
“Angela.” Edmund answered even when Edward had nudged him not to. The three women glanced at each other before looking at the twins. “What did she do that you boys are calling her a demon?”
The two looked at each other before answering, “She keeps playing with Gregory and uses us as slaves.” Edward had controlled the pout that tried to make its way to his face as he crossed his arms instead, while Edmund had no trouble in speaking his mind.
Judith gave her sons a pointed look as she tried to think of what to say to them. The other women were also at a loss for words. It wasn’t because the twins had said something mean, but because they didn’t know how to handle a situation where the two boys were only calling the girl a demon because she wasn’t playing with them and ordering them around.
They could easily refuse not to do whatever she said.
It wasn’t like she was older than them. She was the same age as them.
“Maybe you should stop listening to the girl, boys.” Laura spoke up with a smile as she tried to blink away the late tears that came because of the onions.
The twins glanced at each other before Edmund spoke up immediately, “But then she won’t talk to us.”
The women wanted to laugh at how the teenage boys were being at the moment, as they continued what they had come to the kitchen for. Edward took out four packs of juice before leaving the kitchen with Edmund, who took a cucumber out from the salad that his aunt Wanda was preparing.
“They grow up so fast.” Laura chuckled while the other two women nodded.
They continued to prepare dinner as they talked and laughed about everything and anything. It had been a while since they had been together.
And while the Payne women were busy cooking dinner and talking in the kitchen, the Payne cousins had all assembled inside the basement to mingle after three whole years.
Blake had been a bit salty because of the inclusion of Clark, Stewart and Katie in their quality time, but he became happy again since Scarlet gave him a present she had brought from New York.
“Oh my god, I love you so much, Scarlet!” Blake exclaimed as he embraced the mentioned woman with all his might getting a pat on the back as a reply. Scarlet laughed when Blake broke off their hug only to give her a slobbery kiss on the cheek.
“Incest!” Juliet joked as she gasped which made Stewart laugh uncontrollably, to the extent that the woman had to kick him hard on the knee to get him to stop.
All of them were sitting on the carpeted flooring with Scarlet and Lauren sitting next to each other and then everyone else in a circle around them.
“Shut up, you disgusting person, there are kids here.” Vanessa smacked Juliet on the arm as she subtly glanced towards the twins, Gregory, Angela and lastly, Samantha.
The twins caught her glancing at them and gave her a glare. “We’re not kids anymore, we’re men now.” Edward claimed as he puffed his chest, making his twin roll his eyes.
“And that is why no one takes you seriously.” Edmund muttered and got a giggle from Angela which was almost non-existent but he heard it amongst the laughter of everyone else in the room.
“Stop stealing my spotlight, numbskulls!” Blake whined as he stared at his new digital camera which was gifted to him by his favorite cousin.
Lauren stared at the two cousins with a loving stare as she saw how happy Scarlet was surrounded by family. “This is why I wanted our wedding here.” Lauren whispered in her fiancé’s ear after the woman had come back to sit beside her.
Scarlet looked at her before smiling, “So that my cousins could slobber me with saliva, call themselves men, and make a sweet moment into something disgusting?”
Lauren laughed before hitting the older woman’s arm. “I meant family time, you idiot.” Scarlet grinned before wrapping an arm around Lauren’s shoulder, getting a blush from the woman herself.
Vanessa and Kevin glanced towards the couple, as they took a break from hearing Blake, Juliet and the twins bickering. Kevin gave a smirk to his wife as he saw how loving the two looked. They both knew that they had to have a talk with the soon-to-be-married-couple.
“I just don’t want my parents to make me stay away from you.” Scarlet mumbled into Lauren’s hair as she snuggled with the blonde, who felt shy since they were both showing affection in front of Scarlet’s cousins even if the said cousins were busy talking nonsense with each other.
“You know we have to obey whatever they say.”
“Yeah, and your mother’s even here.” Scarlet mentioned and at the mention of Lauren’s mother she backed away a little from the woman to ask her the real question. “And why didn’t you tell your mother about us?”
Lauren wasn’t expecting the question as she wondered herself why she hadn’t told her mother about her wedding, before she realized why she had done that.
“Because, she never approved of my relationships and we’ve been together for three years now, she wouldn’t have approved of you even if we had been dating all our lives.” Scarlet gave her a frown to which she smiled.
“My mother’s overprotective, ever since dad died.” There was a sadness in Lauren’s voice as she mentioned her father and Scarlet noticed. She saw her cousins still bickering about something while Clark, Katie and Stewart were also including themselves into conversations amongst each other.
This was the perfect time to steal a kiss from Lauren and cheer her up. So, that’s what Scarlet did.
She leaned in subtly and pecked the blonde woman with a smile spreading on her face after the deed.
Lauren was pleasantly surprised as she gave the dark-haired woman a peck on the cheek which made Scarlet frown. “Just the cheek?” The blonde nodded which made Scarlet’s frown deepen, if that was even possible.
“Ew, wait after the wedding to do all that cringey stuff.” Juliet whined loudly which caught the couple’s attention. Lauren blushed as she bowed her head while Scarlet gave her cousin a glare.
“I’m gonna make sure you get a good beating once everyone’s gone to sleep.” Scarlet threatened the red-head with her glare still in place.
“Don’t you even dare touch her!” Stewart spoke up as he stared at Scarlet with an intensity that only the woman recognized. She smirked at the man, before shrugging.
“Well, guess your lover boy saved you.” Juliet threw a glare each towards Stewart and Scarlet before getting up from beside Katie. “I’m going to the kitchen to get some junk food.”
Stewart got up as well as he smiled at the woman, “Can I accompany you?”
“Ew, no.”
Juliet tried to leave the guy behind but he still followed her out of the basement room, which made the occupants of the room laugh.
“Your brother’s crazy about my cousin.” Scarlet whispered to Lauren, who nodded her head with a frown. “I’ll have to watch out for him, she might break more than his face.”
Scarlet let out a hearty laugh as Lauren stared at her fiancé with seriousness. “I wasn’t kidding.”
“I know, it’s still funny how he could like her.”
“Don’t you dare say something bad about Juliet.” Blake piped up into their conversation as he scooted closer to them since Juliet had left him with Clark and Katie as company, and he didn’t like both of them. Clark was tolerable but he just didn’t like Katie even when she had apologized and everyone had moved on.
“Here comes another lover boy.”
“Oh, no, no, no. She’s just my favorite cousin.” Blake claimed as he smiled towards her. “And you said that with the camera I bought for you still in your hands. You ungrateful piece of shit.”
“Hey, hey, hey, kids in the area.” Vanessa warned as she subtly pointed towards the twins, Gregory and Samantha, this time excluding Angela. And once again the twins whined, “We’re not kids, for Pete’s sake!”
Scarlet rolled her eyes at the oncoming bickering that would happen again, as she watched the twins glare at Vanessa, who in turn glared back. Kevin tried to calm his wife down which was futile as she readied herself for the verbal battle.
Samantha stared at her mother with interest, and the fight started.
“You are still kids because you both sleep with your blankies.” The twins gasped before they glanced at Angela, who was trying her best to control her laughter. They felt humiliated, stripped off their dignity as they gave Vanessa a pointed glare before speaking, “And you’re the creepy grandma that still likes to watch Justin Bieber.”
“Oh my god, this is getting interesting.” Clark muttered to Katie, who couldn’t help but nod her head as she watched the twins and Vanessa back and forth as if she was watching a tennis game.
“You both are so dead.” Vanessa spoke with clenched teeth as she smiled fakely at the two, but the twins weren’t done yet since they were fighting for a cause now. To not seem stupid in front of Angela, and also to get her attention.
“Yeah, well, at least we won’t be the ones still having that Belieber junk in their house back in California.”
“How the fuck do you even know that!?” Vanessa exclaimed as she stared at the twins who were smirking victoriously at her.
“Vanessa, kids in the area!” Scarlet chimed in as she copied the way Vanessa had reprimanded her, but Vanessa didn’t care when the twins told her who had told them about all of that. “Kevin told us.”
Vanessa’s heated stare had found another target – her husband – who was sweating buckets as he glared at the twins. “I just mentioned it when aunt Judith and uncle Tyler called us that time in September.”
“Oh, and he also said that you snore when you sleep.” The twins added as if there wasn’t enough fuel for a fire. Vanessa was burning, and she had her target right beside her.
“That, I might’ve said when I didn’t get any sleep because of your snoring.” Kevin gave the twins a helpless look which finally made them stop, but the damage was already done.
“I would love to see how he gets out of this now.” Scarlet chuckled which made Lauren hit her on the arm. “Shut up, don’t make fun of him.”
“If my snoring and my Justin Bieber obsession makes you so uncomfortable and restless, let’s just sleep in different rooms.” Vanessa spoke as she grabbed her daughter before getting up from the floor.
“Also, no sex for until this child comes out of me.”
“Oh my god, the ultimate decree.” Clark mumbled, while Katie shook her head in pity.
Kevin stared at his wife who left the room
after announcing his punishments, before his stare turned to the two twins, who
had not seen this coming.
“We’re sorry, Kevin, we didn’t know she’d react that way.”
“I hope you both are happy now, jerks.”
“Kevin is such a nice guy, he can’t even cuss the twins out.” Blake wiped away a tear, which had slipped out of his eye because of the brutal fate of Kevin.
“We’re here for ya, man.” Clark spoke up, and the mentioned man gave him a small smile.
“And she made fun of my Selena Gomez obsession, oh how the tables turn.” Scarlet laughed which got her another smack on the arm by her fiancé.
“Not the right time.”
But she didn’t care. She was having fun, even if poor Kevin was sad and depressed now.
She was finally understanding how happy she felt when she was surrounded by family. Lauren sure was right, but Scarlet wasn’t going to admit that soon.
