It was just another normal day in the Payne household, and new discoveries were being made. It almost made the day seem perfect.
But, like most times in the Payne residence, unpredictable things happen.
“Guys, Kevin and I wanted to tell you all something.” Vanessa announced as she held Kevin’s hand under the dining table where they were sat eating lunch. The kids, as usual were all sitting at the kiddie table where Edward and Edmund stared at Gregory in jealousy as Angela gave the younger boy more attention than them.
“What is it?” Grandma Payne asked between chewing some spinach, since the old woman was only allowed vegetables and fruits, and sometimes – when she was lucky – a small amount of meat.
“Before coming here, we did an ultrasound to know what our little bean’s gender would be.” Scarlet snorted loudly as she heard her sister say ‘little bean’ which made everyone turned towards her as she quickly composed herself and gave a large smile to her sister.
“That’s so cool, what is it?”
“At least sound a little interested.” Vanessa stated matter-of-factly, which made Scarlet frown before she mumbled something close to the word ‘bitch’. “Manners.” Lauren whispered from beside her, while the whole family looked at Vanessa with interest, already wanting to know what the fetus’s gender would be.
“I hate heteronormative people.” Scarlet mumbled which made Lauren smack her head. “Don’t generalize.”
“Oh sorry, let me rephrase that. I hate my heteronormative sister. Is that better?” Lauren chuckled as Scarlet gave her a fake smile after completing her sentence.
“Turns out it’s a boy and a girl!” Kevin announced which made the Payne family confused.
“Oh, that sounds interesting now.” Scarlet commented as she let go of her spoon to clap her hands at her sister.
“What Kevin meant to say is that, we’re having twins!” Vanessa exclaimed before holding her husband’s hand.
“Oh wow.” Blake spoke up, which made Vanessa nod her head with pride.
The Payne family began congratulating the couple as they smiled and resumed eating.
“Speaking of babies, which one of you are gonna be having the baby?” Jared only needed the word ‘baby’ to be mentioned so that he could talk about children with Scarlet and Lauren, which made them glance at each other awkwardly.
“Honey, they don’t need to answer that.” Wanda spoke up as she gave her husband a sharp look, which made him shrug.
“Of course, my Lauren will be having the child.” Carla spoke up from the end of the table as she smiled at her daughter with sparkling eyes.
“Mom, we haven’t discussed that y—” Lauren was cut off when Andrew jumped into the conversation. “I don’t think that’s how it should be. Since my daughter asked Lauren for her hand in marriage, then I believe Scarlet should be the one having the baby first.”
“Oh, damn Vanessa for starting this.” Scarlet mumbled to Lauren, who could do nothing but to throw a glare her fiancé’s way.
“Besides, my granddaughter isn’t getting any younger. Her eggs might be getting all old.” Scarlet smacked herself on the head as she heard her grandmother speak.
“You talk as if my daughter isn’t getting older as well.” Carla complained, which started a whole new topic for a heated conversation.
“Oh, this is getting funnier to watch.” Blake whispered to Katie, who looked at him with shock, while Juliet turned to her cousin as well, since she couldn’t believe he was actually talking to the blonde.
“Are you sick?” Juliet whispered to Blake, from beside Katie’s other side. Blake smiled at the two women before nodding his head. “I feel fine.”
“Oh my god, you’re not pregnant too right?” Juliet asked which made Katie burst out in laughter while Blake gave his cousin a glare.
He had to admit, Katie did look pretty while laughing.
“Are they crazy?” Clark spoke to Stewart as the other man was enjoying the whole conversation between the grown-ups.
“Well, my daughter is older than yours, so she gets to decide who gets pregnant first.” Laura spoke up as she looked at Carla.
Currently, it was Carla: 3 and the whole Payne grown-ups: 6.
But, none of them were ready to back down.
“That’s what I thought too when I first met them.” Stewart chuckled which made Clark look horrified. “But you’ll get used to them. They’re actually really great people.”
Stewart smiled as he saw the table filled with people and food, and how everyone looked happy even when most of the people on the dining table were having a verbal fight amongst themselves.
He felt happy that he had gotten to know these people, and how Lauren and their mother had that happiness glinting in their eyes as they were there sat at the table.
“Do they usually do that?” Angela asked as she pointed towards the grown-up table with her thumb. Edward and Edmund nodded, while Gregory was busy playing with his food.
“Wow, that must be fun.” Gregory giggled as he gave Angela a nod. “It’s always fun in our house.”
“You guys are lucky.” She spoke with a sad tone which the twins noticed almost instantly. “Don’t you have loud days at home.”
Angela shook her head, “It’s usually just my brother and me. Dad, doesn’t come home often.”
“Well, when you get bored, you can come over here.”
Angela laughed at the twins as they frowned. “I live in New York, you idiots.” The twins didn’t mind her calling them idiots, as they smiled. “You can call us then, we’ll put the phone on loudspeaker so that you can listen to them being loud.”
It was the first time, they saw real excitement on Angela’s face as she nodded her head with a smile. “I think I just died and went to heaven.” Edward blurted which made his twin give him an eye-roll, while Angela laughed at his cheesy line.
