The next two weeks, Missy and I spent getting everything ready. We had a caterer booked, I had my dress, and the invitations get sent out. Everything was ready.
“Just sent the last invite.” Missy said.
“And I just paid for the food.” I replied.
“This party is going to be the best one yet.”
“You say that every year, Mis.” I chuckled.
“I know, I know, but you are going to be 17 Jay. 17!” she said.
It was a big deal, but to me it was just another birthday; another year. I am excited of course. I'm excited because the Fam does all the decorating and never lets me help.
I only worry about the food and the music,so I can't wait to see how they work.
“ I wonder what Avery is doing this year.” Missy said.
I forgot that Avery’s birthday was four days after mine.
“Probably what she does every year and throws a whole-ass rave.” I said.
Every year, Avery would throw a huge-ass party with, at least, 400 people. If you think that I go all-out for mine, you’ve never been to or seen hers. I’ve never been invited to them, but I see it all over social media.
“Do you think that we’ll get invited this year?” Missy asked jokingly.
I looked at her and we started laughing.
“In our dreams. Is Jamie still up for doing my hair and makeup?” I asked to change the subject.
Jamie is Missy’s older sister. She owns a hair salon, and offered to do my hair and makeup for my party.
“Yes, she texted me earlier that she will be at your house around 10:00.” she replied.
“Ok great.” I said.
Saturday finally came. I’m 17 years old now, and I need to start getting ready for my party. When I got out of bed and went downstairs, my parents were already awake and made me breakfast.
“What is this, iHop?” I asked when I saw all the food.
“All you favorites.” Dad said.
“Happy birthday sweetie.” Mom told me, giving me a kiss on the forehead.
“ Thanks, Mom.” I replied.
We started eating until we heard the front door shut.
“Where is the birthday girl?!” my sister Hannah shouted out.
“Hannah!” I said running up and hugging her.
Hannah is my older sister, and she lives in Washington where she goes to college. She’s studying to be a physical therapist, but comes down here on birthdays and holidays.
“My babysitter's finally 17.” Hannah said.
Suddenly, there was another knock on the door. Mom opened it and it was the rest of the Fam, bringing in balloons and presents. I walked to the living room and everyone yelled happy birthday. Missy came up and gave me a big hug.
“Happy birthday bestie, I love you.” she said.
“ I love you too.” I said back.
“ OK let’s start on hair and makeup.” Jamie said, clapping her hands.
“And the rest of us will finish decorating.” Alex’s mom said.
Everybody but Jamie and Hannah left. The girls stayed and helped get me ready, finally finishing around 1:00. Meanwhile, everyone went to their homes to get ready. My parents saw me as they walked in, looked at me and smiled.
“Wow, you look really beautiful honey.” Dad said.
“Ohh, my baby is a princess.” Mom hugged me.
“Thank you guys for everything, I love you.” I said.
They smiled at me before getting ready so we could all head out.
We left the house around 3:00. When we arrived, people were already there. Family and friends greeted me while I walked in. Everything looked beautiful.
“We really pulled off the Paris theme huh?” Missy said, sneaking up on me.
“Yes, it looks great. Thank you.” I hugged her.
Alex came up and gave me a present.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Open it.”
I opened the bag, and inside was a stuffed animal dog; it resembled the real one I had when I was a little girl. It ran over one day and died. I started to tear up and I hugged Alex tight.
“Thank you, I love it.” I said.
“You are welcome.” Alex said, giving me a kiss on the cheek.
Josh ran up and pulled me.
“Comeo one princess, let’s dance,” he said.
We all went to the dance floor, danced and sang. I later opened my presents and took pictures with people. A few hours passed and we were all having fun. Everything was going perfectly, until I walked in on someone I never thought would show up at my party.
