Murphy took his seat next to Huey. Both gave each other a gentle, acquainted wave, and descended into quiet small talk, like the others in the room.
"So, you're the new kid. I'm Huey. I think you'll fit right in, mate," he said in a calm disposition.
"You think so?" Murphy asked, feeling really confused. Starting a new school where he felt distant from everyone, like he was an island cast far away in the deep azure ocean, and yet someone who he just met thinks he'd fit in well? This massively perplexed him, but was also quite pleasing. He seemed to be tounge-tied or probably just thought little of it (in Huey's opinion anyway) and Murphy had just brushed off the complement with a friendly "Thank you."
The conversations were reaching the point to where the room was just a vortex of boys' voices until it was pierced with a resounding call out by Mr. Sycamore "It's time to leave for assembly. Everyone line up in an orderly fashion and be quiet."
Everyone either shot up like bloodhounds or lingered up slowly like a typical garden snail, but the one thing all of the boys of Mr. Sycamore's form is that they all sauntered along the halls and were all staring at their shoes as if they were more entertaining than their actual surroundings.
Once the form class had entered the hall, what Murphy had discovered that the school decorators had a massive soft spot for mahogany wood and the room was painted in darkness due to the closed shutters. The room was also much louder than the form classrom; the room was swirling with voices. The teachers largely didn't care for two tense and lengthy minutes, but after that time they started violently hushing their forms with a simple "Shh" or "Shush" but a couple went to the point to saying "Shut up".
Either way, the teachers got what they wanted, but not on their own merit. A tall woman with long brown hair reaching her shoulder-blades yelled out a cheery but also passive-aggressive "Good morning students!". It was fired at the boys like a bullet; it was quick and silenced them.
"Now then, should we really start this assembly?" the woman said.
