Avery’s little boy toy came into my party. Why is this dude at my party? What is he here for? Where is Avery? So many thoughts were going through my head.
"Hey Bryce, glad you could make it.” my dad said as he went up to the guy.
My dad knows this guy? His name is Bryce? He brought Bryce over to me.
“Jay, this is Bryce. He just started working with me at the office.” Dad said.
I gave Bryce a little smile and wave.
“Well Jay, it is nice to meet you and happy birthday.” he told me.
He handed me a gift bag. I opened it, and inside was a box with a gold necklace inside. It was beautiful, and looked very expensive.
“Your dad told me that you like jewelry,” he said.
“I do thank you.” I told him.
He gave me a smile. There was something off-putting about his smile. I know for a fact that something was not right with him, but I didn’t know what. Both he and my dad walked away from me, but Bryce then turned around and winked at me. It kind of creeped me out, and had me thinking all night.
The party went on until about 2:00 in the morning. We were exhausted when we got home. Josh, Alex, and Missy stayed at my house. We stayed up watching movies and eating snacks, not going to sleep until 7:00 in the morning.
We only slept for 4 hours when Hannah came barging into my room.
“Breakfast is ready, sleepyheads.” she said.
It took us a while to get up and go downstairs.
“Good morning sleepyheads.” Mom told us.
“Morning.” we all said.
I was still half asleep when I sat at the table, not noticing that Bryce was sitting right in front of me. My eyes grew wide when I saw him.
“Good morning Jay, how did you sleep?” he asked me.
“Fine, thank you.” I replied.
Why was Bryce at my house? Dad never brings workers home, or to any parties. What does Bryce want from him?
“I see that you are wearing the necklace that I gave you.” Bryce said to me.
I just gave him a small smile.
Josh picked up his plate from the table and moved over to sit next to me. He put his head on my shoulder. He was still tired. We all were.
“Are y’all going down to the beach today?” Mom asked us.
“Yeah we're going to hit some waves.” Missy answered.
“I’m also heading down to the beach.” Bryce said.
“I’m going to meet my girlfriend. She works there as a lifeguard.” he added.
Missy and I looked at each other. I knew that we were thinking the same thing:Avery is Bryce’s girlfriend.
“Really? Missy and Jay are also lifeguards down there too.” Dad said.
“Yea, I’ve seen them before,” said Bryce. “Do you want me to give you girls a ride?”
“No thanks, Alex is going to take us.” I said.
“Ok, well I better get going. I’ll see y’all there maybe?” said Bryce.
“Yeah.” Missy replied.
Bryce got up, and dad walked him out. Mom came to pick up our plates.
“We should get going too. We have to stop by the cafe before the beach.” Josh said.
“Ok, you guys have fun and be careful.” Mom said.
“We will. Love you mom.” I answered.
We all got into Alex’s truck and went to the cafe. We went to the beach afterwards. We got our surf boards and bags, then headed to our lifeguard chairs. I saw Avery and Bryce over by her chair arguing. Avery was crying. She tried to walk away from him, but he grabbed her. I told Missy and the guys, and we all ran over to see if she was okay.
“Is everything okay over here?” Missy asked.
“Yes everything is great, just a little disagreement.” Bryce said, hugging Avery.
Avery wiped her tears, and faked a smile.
“Yeah, everything is fine.” Avery said.
We went back over to the chairs. I was starting to get worried. Bryce looked really mad at Avery. What if he was going to hurt her? All of a sudden, I saw Bryce pulling Avery away to his car. Something really didn’t feel right. I ran and got Alex’s truck keys.
“Jay! Where are you going?” Alex asked me.
“I'll catch you guys later, I've got to go do something.” I said.
I ran into the truck and started it. I saw that Avery was still crying as she and Bryce got into his car. I followed them until the car pulled up to a trailer. It’s probably where Bryce lives. Bryce and Avery get out of the car. They hugged each other like nothing happened. I saved the address to the trailer on my phone just in case I needed it. It looked like everything was fine, so I drove back to the beach. I changed my clothes and got into the water with my friends.
“Everything ok?” Alex asked me.
“Yeah, everything is okay for now.”
