So like... maybe the two princes are meeting somewhere in a field, to talk about signing a peace treaty to end the war their parents started. They expected it to take only a matter of hours to resolve, so neither was prepared when the weather suddenly shifts. It starts to pour, and everyone scrambles to protect the documents and such. There's a farm nearby, so the princes, scribes, and their guard flee there to take shelter from the rain. The farmer and his family aren't too happy about unexpected guests, but they wouldn't dare refuse a prince, let alone two. So as they all make arrangements for sleeping as the rain shoes no sign of letting up before the night is through, one prince decides to offer up the cramped space near the fire that he was allotted to the dog. He wouldn't be able to sleep anyway. He is leaning in the doorway of the farm house when the farmer's wife approaches him and tells him of the spare bed in the loft of the nearby barn. It hadn't been offered when they arrived, because the barn can get quite drafty during harsh weather. The prince offers a small smile when he accepts her offer. She hands to him a couple extra blankets, and a cloak she had brought with her. Donning the cloak and sheltering the blankets, the prince rushes over to the barn door, which happens to be slightly ajar. He makes it in and closes the door behind him. He turns around to find the other prince already there, murmuring to his horse as he brushes her mane. There's an awkward exchange as the two explain what they are doing there and without thinking, the first prince offers up the loft bed that the farmer's wife had told him about. The second prince cautiously accepts, but where will he sleep? As the realization of the situation dawns on the first prince, the second merely suggest that they share the space. If it's as drafty up there as the farmer's wife claims, they could both benefit from the extra warmth of another body beside them. Seeing no flaws in this logic, the princes climb the ladder that leads to the loft space in silence. As they go about making small preparations to sleep, each prince can't help but be incredibly aware of the other. When the flame of the oil lamp is extinguished and the princes are laying shoulder to shoulder, they are painfully aware of each other and their hearts thunder dangerously in their ears. What is this feeling? They wonder to themselves. As the night drags on, the princes succumb to exhaustion from the day's events and sleep at last. When the first prince wakes at the light of the morning sun, he feels somewhat content and strangely well rested. He lays there pondering how best to approach the treaty when he notices an odd weight slumped across his midsection. Reluctant to betray the warmth of the bed to investigate, he merely lifts his head to investigate and is briefly confused to see that it's an arm. He turns to inquire as to whom could possibly be sharing the space beside him and is shocked to see the still sleeping form of the other prince beside him. Remembering the specific events that led to this moment, he can't help but notice just how handsome that other prince is with the light of the rising sun peeking in through the gaps in the wall of the barn roof.
