We ran towards further inside the city till we figured we were safe for now. “Serves that bastard right.” I couldn’t believe that Melody had just shot someone, in all due respects it was in self-defense,but I was still a little surprised. “Still can’t believe you just shot someone; it was pretty justified, but I was quite shocked.” “Which is why I wasn’t scared, I knew he was trouble and wanted to push his limit.” “But why would you do that?It would probably be easier if we just went inside to a different part of the city.” Melody just stayed silent, she probably knew that was the better idea, but she probably had some sort of reason for it. “Doesn’t matter now, let’s just find some supplies if we can.” I couldn’t really argue anymore with her. She didn’t want to deal with even more shit, which I can’t really blame her for. I just have this feeling that a lot of these are my fault, but that’s probably my brain playing a cruel joke on me. There was just so much stress between both of us, that the stop at the bridge almost felt pointless since we were back to square one. All we can do now is just keep searching for whatever goodies we can find. It was weird to me that the man seemed to be the only person we’ve seen so far. If someone was here, you would think others would show up, I'm highly doubtful people wouldn’t find the small city. And on top of that, there were barely any supplies, it seems like everything was taken. If that were the case, it would prove more people in here, but it would seem to be not the case. “Don’t you think it’s weird how there is no one around besides us? Starting to feel a bit worried about our position right about now.” “Yea, I guess it does seem weird; I was just checking some of the stores for any food and all the shelves are empty. Some stores have food, but it would seem that most are out of stock.” “There could be people hiding; maybe this city is pretty isolated, it’s a winner takes all type thing.” “Yea, that’s very plausible.” Melody just kept searching every building she could and all I could do was just wonder what the hell is really going on here. Of course I knew there was something wrong here, but it could be something worse than I could have imagined. Guess the more important thing is to go somewhere safe away from all the deranged lunatics. “Lost or confused.”
I didn’t even need to turn around to know the grading voice that was right behind me. “You have no business here.” “I have somewhere that leads me to my destination. The people work like a hivemind, never lost or confused. They seek out the weak and devour their strengths. Such in the way in this circle of life. They are cunning, thoughtless and depraved.” “A system that you took part in. Or is that your true goal in the end?” “Ho-ho. I love your lack of realization to the general consensus. Let’s say that you're awfully close to the end. I can’t wait for your mind to melt into madness. You don’t want to deny your state of being, but you’ll learn to suffer more than you might think. It will be a sight to see, I can’t wait for the grand finale.” “I see you're awfully more thought-provoking than before.” “This suit does wonders to not just my strengths, but to my intelligence as well. Not as high of an IQ as some of the humans here, but much smarter than you. I’ll be seeing you both again soon, or perhaps only one of you.” He spun into his little portal and disappeared once again. “One of us?” That thought lingered in the back of my mind as soon as he left. Does he mean he would think only one of us would survive this journey; I wasn’t so sure exactly, feels like he’ll attempt to kill one of us later on. I was so distracted from what he said, I totally forgot that Melody had already gone ahead. I ran down the street while calling her name, trying to find her. I heard Melody scream at me to keep it down. “My bad, I was distracted by that jester again and was trying to look for you.” “It’s fine, but we have to keep caution in these types of areas, we don’t want to cause unwarranted attention.” “I'll keep that in mind.” “I’ll assume he was saying threats to us again.” “Sort of, he was acting a bit more thought-provoking than usual.” “Surprised he hadn’t gotten more deranged from our last encounters.” “Guess he just wasn’t in the mood.” “Well we should just focus now on finding a good spot for us to stay at.” I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure I was in the mood to really spend a night here. Feels like anyone could mug us, or hell, even kill us in the middle of our sleep. Considering the “guests” here aren’t as friendly as our last visit, I’ll just say this place doesn’t seem like a good place to spend time before our next visit tomorrow.
“Do you think our best approach should be inside or outside?” “Inside is probably safer in general, just as long as there is no one inside that area that is” “Just as long as there isn’t a bomb, or some sort of beartrap or-”, Melody sighed in my exaggeration. “Yea, I think that’s a bit of an overreaction. I doubt they would put any sense of traps in there even if there were people inside it.” “Just anxious is all, the place is much more mysterious and probably deadlier than our last area.” “It definitely is much more worrying in general. There are probably some hidden secrets that we probably shouldn’t find. Nah, we should definitely go find them.” Melody definitely looked excited to go after whatever mysterious things were hiding in this city. “I can’t really stop you, can I?” “Nope!” “Let’s just hope we don’t find anything treacherous or disgusting.” “Maybe we’ll find some hard cash. Who knows what lies below the surface.” “Pretty sure the percentage of finding riches is much rarer than something of a dangerous weapon lying around somewhere.” “Still would be pretty exciting to find, and besides, it’s not like we're really doing anything else. Well besides just looking for some basic supplies.” “So, where should we start?” “I was thinking of the west side of the city, we haven’t really delved much over there.” “Alright, let’s start there and hopefully find something worthwhile.” I guess Melody was right, there really wasn’t much to do since it was only around mid-afternoon. Ideally, I wish we had only focused on setting up a place to sleep, because that was more important than some lousy “treasures.” All I'm hoping for is some good type of weapon that’s not just a kitchen knife or crobar. Melody put her arm around me and stopped me in my tracks. “It's gonna be quite hard to travel with all these creatures.” There was an abundance of them; many of the poison apples to the rascal's creatures and even that mask thing again. “Hey look, a good reason to go back and find a place to stay. Like we should’ve done from the beginning because trying to hunt down something we don’t need is something that could get us hurt or killed.” “Cmon, where’s the fun in that.” “Look how many creatures there are,not to mention the mask one, which almost killed me in a brutal way.. It’s too much of a risk, we really should head back.” “I’ll admit there is an abundance of them, although you shouldn’t really need to worry. I believe there is a route where we can avoid all of them.” “Like what? All the way at the end?” “Well that was the first idea I had,not sure if there is another option we can take from the looks of it.” “I just hope whatever it is, is worth all the trouble to get to it.” “That’s the spirit.”
We're basically polar opposites right now, two sides of the same coin(or at least that’s how I remember the saying goes.) Can’t really argue with her, it’s just better to do what she says for now and just roll with it. She is sort of the archetype of the leader right now. She is a bit more demanding than she usually is. Although I guess I can’t put the blame on here when there is something. Maybe they’ll be at least some treasures that are interesting to find. Considering that there were a large quantity of creatures, I guess it's safe to say the reason why this place remains silent. Although that’s still a guess, there could be something else more sinister that we’re not aware of yet. The edge on the west side was a couple of blocks down which seemed to not be crowded with any creatures. “Seems you were right, there doesn’t appear to be any threats blocking our path.” “See, told ya!” “Heh, I still don’t think this is such a good idea. Regardless if we find somewhere to go, the prize inside might be something we wish we haven’t seen.” “Don’t be such a downer;after we find something, we’ll go back and set up somewhere to camp.” “Urrr, finneee.” Guess I just had to go, well hopefully there is at least a chance we could find something interesting and safe. At the end of the street, there was an apartment building that was seemingly abandoned compared to the rest of the city. All the windows were shattered and the building seemed decrepit. “Do you still think this is a good idea?'' Melody looked unsure about what we should do. “If anything happens, I’m prepared.” We slowly crept inside the abandoned apartment. When we entered all the lights had seemingly been turned on. “There may be people living here, let’s not cause any attention.” Melody nodded her head. “We should head up top; I have a sneaking suspicion that there is something up there.” We slowly crept up the stairs to avoid making as much noise as possible. This was quite the annoying task, due to the squeaking of each step on each stair. The apartment wasn’t as tall as one you would usually see in an average city. Just think of it if it was cut in half. We finally ascended all the way to the top floor and stood in front of a wooden door. Seemed to be an extra space in the apartment. Normally this would just be a normal floor and not have one side with one door. But in this case it seemed to be quite special compared to other apartments located around the world. Melody slowly approached the door. “If I'm correct, this door should open to goodies that might interest us.” “I just really hope we won’t find ourselves regretting this.” Melody opened the door in a swift succession. My worries were correct, I could see Melody turn pale. The room was full of rotting and decaying corpses. They were all seated nicely in chairs and on the carpet. The image looked like some sort of family gathering, hosted by an insane psychopath. I slowly backed up and bumped into someone behind me. Before I had the chance to turn around I was hit by a blunt object and passed out.
