It was a few hours later when a distant rumble of thunder awoke the three friends. Lightning flashed and the sky turned grey as the waves rocked the little boat harder and harder.
"O-kay. Now it's officially raining," Alex said. Cupping his hands, he focused on a tiny spark forming between his palms. It burst into a flickering, spluttering flame which was immediately doused with rain."Ugh. Jen, can you like, make it stop raining or something?"
Jen squeezed her eyes shut and raised both her hands up. She let them drop limply by her sides before shaking her head.
The storm grew stronger overhead. Raindrops felt like pellets hitting their faces and drenching them. Sarah shielded herself with her hands. Just then, Jen had an idea. She made a few swirly movements with her hands, and soon a large patch of water was hovering above the boat.
"Woah." Alex gaped at the shelter. Jen smiled and rubbed her nose triumphantly. "So I figured, water can't pass through water, right? See, I'm not that dumb, y'know."
True enough, no rainwater was passing through the shelter. Alex made a flame and held it in the middle of the boat for warmth.
"Elemental powers are the best," said Jen, which was greeted by a nod of agreement by Alex. Sarah sighed and buried her face in her hands. "Why am I even here?" she mumbled.
Hope you're enjoying the series so far! Also, I'm gonna have a brief hiatus for these few weeks. Y'know... stuff. BUT-- I'll definitely upload a new episode when I can! :)
