“I thought you’re seeing someone…”
Evelyn smiles at Daehwan’s silly presumption. “Have you ever met anyone who looks like my partner?”
He shakes his head. They continue to walk across the street and go back to the apartment when the sun sets.
“I thought you’d buried yourself somewhere.”
“Why?”
“Because of Youngie’s words…”
“If you bail on what you said, I wouldn’t mind.” She said calmly.
“But I can’t defend you either…”
She glances at him who’s walking awkwardly side by side with her. Daehwan smiled embarrassedly, and didn't know how to answer her. Though at first he kind of feels regret of his reckless talk promising them he would take responsibility, in the end he feels like there’s nothing to lose from it since he enjoys his time with Evelyn and she's not as annoying as he thought.
So he dares himself to come and visit Evelyn after two weeks of contemplation and many considerations. Every weekend, Daehwan would regularly visit Evelyn’s apartment. He has the key pass that was given to him by Shin Joonyoung since he promised to come visit Evelyn and have a talk.
But it feels impolite to come unannounced, so he would text Evelyn first and ask if she’s alone at home and he could come visit. Usually Mrs. Kim isn’t there on weekends, so he could feel less nervous when he has private time with Evelyn.
She has regular work days rather than Daehwan who should be ready when there's an emergency call at any time. That way it’s easier for him to match up with Evelyn’s schedules and meet her there. They would usually have casual talks about daily routines. Or any other talk and have a walk at the nearby park every dawn. Cooking breakfast or dinner, any domestic activities that will make him feel like a newlywed husband.
Little did he know, Evelyn not what her first impression was. She’s a bright woman with a thoughtful attitude. She even starts to call him with an honorific title to address older people. It could be someone around her who taught her to.
“I thought he was an ordinary kitten… when I visit your house for the first time.” Daehwan grinning remembers his first encounter with Evelyn’s cat.
“He was still two months old at that time.”
“Oh…” He nods and petting gáta, Evelyn’s unordinary cat. He was purring by Daehwan’s leg, putting his chin on him. Gáta seems already fond and familiar of Daehwan’s scent since he visits them regularly every weekend. That tamed beast stared at him with the kitten's eyes. Demanding for a pet every time Daehwan comes visiting.
He was surprised when he met Gáta one year later, three weeks after the drunk incident happened. He jolted and jumped onto the couch as gáta came out of Evelyn’s room. That big cat stomps his steps out slowly and stares at him cautiously. Looks like it is about to attack its prey. What the hell is a wild animal doing inside the house, that’s what he thought.
“He’s a special cat. Canadian lynx. He is supposed to go back to my grandpa’s house today. My bodyguard will pick him up soon.”
But Daehwan didn’t want to come down from the couch, still with a terrified look. Even when that big cat approaches him, he’s alert, like being approached by a jaw. Evelyn got a good laugh at the time. A grown up man is afraid of a cat, amusing for her view.
“None’s home now, only us both…”
“Do you wanna do something to spend the day?” Daehwan asks her.
“I don’t know, but I think I wanna do something fun with my boyfriend.” She pulled Daehwan’s shirt to make him stand closer to her, who's sitting on the dining table. They kiss while embracing each other’s body.
