"If I'm going to be honest, you're not the only one."
I raise my head from eyeing the grass to Sky.
"Really?"
I ask.
"Ever since I've come here, I've felt nothing but bored. I know it's only been a couple of days, but nothing catches my eye here."
She responds, sitting beside me under a tree. The rocky ground is a bit uncomfortable, but it does not bother me.
"Yeah. I see."
We're not as different as I thought. A horn blares loudly.
"What's going on?"
"Lunch!"
Sky pushes herself up, dashing towards the mess hall. I do the same, trying to catch up with her.
"Wait!"
I yelp, extending an arm, but she keeps on sprinting. She's amazingly fast. Keeping up with her makes it hard for me to catch my breath. We finally make it to the mess hall, where it's already filled with kids. When we walk to our table, Sky sits across from me.
"You're so fast. Do you run a lot?"
I ask her tiredly.
"Yeah. Almost everyday I go to run."
I nod in approval as a response. When the food is served, we scoop some tomato soup onto our plastic plates. I also pick out some crackers. When I try it, it's amazing. It's better than last time, when we had Mac and cheese. Turning my head, I notice Phoenix walking towards his table, which is just behindus. Waving at him, he comes to sit across from us in his seat. He's surprised to see that Sky is with me.
Sky whips her head sideways, facing Phoenix. Her face of enjoyment turned into an annoyed one.
"What are you doing here?"
"I go to this camp and this is my table?"
Phoenix responds. I want to laugh, but I hold it by puffing my cheeks.
"It's alright, you can laugh."
Sky reassures me. My eyes widen in embarrassment.
"Well? How did it go?"
Phoenix asks me in a playful manner, resting his cheek on his hand, as if he was teasing me.
"How did what go?
I ask, embarrassed. Then I remember. Sky did forgive me and was never mad at me in the first place. I give him a thumbs up in response. He smiles, as if he was proud of me.
"Looks like you met Justice."
Sky is confused to find out that Phoenix and I know each other. We explain how we met to her.
"Justice here was so nervous when we were talking about you meeting her for the first time."
Phoenix teases again, smiling mischievously. Embarrassed, I clench my fists on my shorts and my eyes widen again.
"Phoenix! Don't tell her that!"
He laughs over how nervous I am. Sky sighs, but leaves a small laugh.
"Sorry about that. I know I have a scary-looking face, but I'm not angry all the time."
Sky responds, pushing back some of her long, green hair that was covering the side of her face. When her frown fades, she looks like a completely different person. I can't see that angry face anymore. She's not smiling, but not frowning.
We continue chatting, and Sky brings up the camp, asking Phoenix if anything caught his eye. That's where I see him go silent for a moment, causing Sky to raise a brow. I thought he was going to bring up the nature hiking activity, but he talks about his other activity. Then that brought a question to my head. Should we tell her about the fairy? Or is it too soon? Even though Phoenix and I promised not to tell anyone else about the nature hike, Sky seems to be close enough to Phoenix. But I don't know what she would do with that information, or how she would react. I sit idly, staring downwards, still wondering what I should do about this. Behind me, I hear some rapid footsteps. Joyce runs to the corner of the hall, talking with another camp leader. It looks like she's talking to Phoenix's camp leader, Brock. They exchange looks of surprise, concentration, and some disappointment. Tom then joins in. I feel a tap on my shoulder.
"You alright?"
Phoenix asks. I stammer for a bit.
"Yeah. Everything's ok."
The thought of what the camp leaders could be talking about worries me. Because I saw one of them glance at me. Do they know about me and Phoenix?
