Chapter nine
When Jacob woke up in the morning basking happily, as Eve snuggled into the side of his neck, muttering in her sleep, drool dripping down from her mouth, he smirked at the sight.
But the moment was ruined when he turned on his phone seeing the myriad of messages left from his dad, with an intense amount of unnecessary emojis.
The insane man i live with:
Jacob, did you say you were going out tonight🚘🚨🌃 Let me know when you're getting home. 🏠
The insane man i live with:
I just did a memory spell, you didn't say anything about going out or being home late. Where are you? Come home soon.😡😡🤬😠💀☠🤡
The insane man i live with:

The insane man i live with:

The insane man i love with:

The insane man i live with:
Fine, I will hand over all top secret information I know about the experimental spells we've been trying at the warlock institute. 🤫🤫
The insane man i live with:
Okay i know you've probably killed him by now, can you at least let me have the body, he could be a helpful organ donor. 🧠🫀🫁
The insane man i live with:
Could you perhaps put him in ice for the meantime. 🥶🥶
Jacob shut down his phone, praying to the goddess that his mum would be back soon. She was out at sea, Jacob would prefer not call what she was doing pirating, but she was pirating. Trying to beat her rival Vivian Yarrow to the mythical island said to hold all the lost treasures of pirates past.
His mum was the pirate's crew witch, and did all the battle spells, wind and sea sorcery they needed, no one would admit that she actually held all power within the pirate crew, and was more feared than even the captain himself, who was a drunkard elderly gnome, and the only gnome in exist to ever liked periels and joys of the open sea.
His mum was often away, which left Jacob alone to deal with his insane dad, who was probably at that very moment trying to come up with a plan to get his son back without having to give his said ‘kidnappers’ any of his fortune. Jacob would call his dad after breakfast, letting him know he was going to be out for the day. The boy smiled down at his sleeping soulmate, finally he could spend the day with just the two of them. Although first he would have to sneak back out of her flat and down the fire escape. He just hoped he didn’t get a parking ticket.
🪄🪄🪄
Jacob climbed up the stairs, only just realising that Miss Maren might notice that he was wearing the same clothes from yesterday, but hoped the gifts he was bearing (pastries and coffee) would help to keep her attention away from that. As he reached the door, his hand lifting to press a finger on the doorbell, the door opened.
"Jake?"
"Jacob," he quickly corrected at Eves' bewildered mum. "Here," he shoved the bag of pastries and three coffees to her. "Breakfast," he chuckled awkwardly.
Feya brows lifted, staring suspiciously at Jacob, he gulped under her intense gaze. Till finally she broke out into a grin.
"I like you. You bought me coffee, which means you're in my good books for life."
Jacob released his breath, following Feya into the flat.
"Eve," she sang loudly and slightly out of tune, "guess who's here?"
"Mrs Randle, complaining about how loudly you're playing the radio again?"
"Nope," Feya placed the coffees and pastry bag on the kitchen table, "they bought coffee and-" she opened the paper bag, "Ooooo iced cinnamon buns,"
"With cherries?"
"With cherries," Feya replied. Eve darted out of her room, her hair wet from a recent shower. Jacob stared stunned for a moment, spying her always hidden wings popping out from her black tank top.
They dropped unnaturally, curling slightly by the tips ends, and seemingly looked faded in colour, clouding like grey smoke. He tried to hide the pity he felt as he stared.
When Eve's eyes met Jacob they widened, "hi, i thought we could spend the day together. Go on an official first date."
Eve's face turned bright red, Feya grinned, "a real gentleman," she spoke through bites of her cinnamon bun, and quick sips of her piping hot coffee. "Go get dressed, sweetheart, I'll keep the handsome Jacob company."
Eve glanced at her mum with arlerm, "no you don't have to-"
"It's fine," Jacob interjected, "I'd like to get to know your mum a bit."
Eve looked between the two, Jacob knew she didn't want him alone with her mum, he gave her an encouraging smile. Eve gave a pleading look to her mum both sharing a silent conversation, then Eve cautiously slinked away.
"So," Feya began, "have you two had sex yet?" Jacob was beginning to understand why Eve was reluctant to leave.
Eventually after ten painful minutes of what Jacob would refer to later on as the integration from hell, where Eve's mum had asked several way too personal questions and had somehow made Jacob promise to give her a copy of his birth certificate. Jacob was all too happy when Eve came out dressed in orange patchwork wide leg trousers and an oversized green jumper hiding her wings completely.
They rushed out of the flat and to Jacobs car breathing out a sigh of relief once the BMW doors shut. "I think your mum might be as insane as my dad."
"Don't tell me, it's better if I don't know."
Jacob suddenly began to laugh, "I guess I can count our crazy parents as the reason we're soulmates."
"That and that we both despise green tea." Eve smirked.
"If I ever end up in hell, It’ll be the drink they'll force me to drink." Jacob started up the car, driving away down the street.
"Where do you want to go? Cinema? Pub? I know a guy who can get you a fake ID."
Eve stared at the window, her broes frowned together, Jacob smiled knowing she was far in thought.
"Beach?" She murmured after a long moment, "you know only if you want to," she spoke gazing down to the floor shyly.
"The beach," Jacob smirked, "thinking of going skinny dipping?"
Eve's face turned bright red, "no!"
Jacob sniggered, enjoying her panic, to escape his mockery Eve rapidly reached out the radio, it began playing one of Jacob's CDs and as soon as he heard it his sniggering stopped.
Circus music sounded out from the speakers.
"What the-"
"My dad used to play this as a lullaby, it's my version of whale noises or some shit."
It was quite for a moment, deathly so. Eve began smirking.
"I'm using this for the rest of eternity on you."
Jacob groaned yet again cursing his father silently.
They soon make it to the beach at the edge of the city. The beach is near empty, the wind blows bellowing as the waves crash on the sand. Jacob watched as Eve took a deep breath in the sea air, her whole demeanour relaxed and soothed, she seemed entranced by the ocean.
"Goddess i love it here," she grinned, making jacob feel light, he took hold of her hand squeezing it.
"I don't come here often, I think my dad is scared of water."
"But doesn't your mum-"
"Yep, I know, I don't get it either." Jacob took in the view, he glanced over back at Eve growing a mischievous expression. "Bet i can make a better sandcastle than you,"
"You're so on,"
Jacob quickly shoved Eve away, rushing over to a spot as dived, beginning to dig at the sand.
It wasn’t easy creating the great structure of a mont and castle, with spiralling towers, and large walls, but Jacob had magic on his side, which Eve much to laughter had grumbled was cheating. As Jacob moulded the last of his sand castle he gazed over to Eves which was a hut compared to his masterpiece, he almost felt bad, almost.
“Well, well, well,” Jacob began slowly as he peered down at Eves sandcastle, “looks like i win.”
Eve snorted, “only because you cheated, I had to use my hands.”
Jacob grinned, “So what do I get as my prize.”
“Besides your dishonourable win?”
Jacob faked a gasp, “honour runs in my family i have you know,”
Eve rolled her eyes, “but i could think of a few things i want as a prize,” he stared with a burning hot desire in his eyes, as Eve finally turned her face to him, a pretty flush painted on her face only added to his hunger.
She chewed her lip for a moment, which had him restraining himself from biting those lips himself, before she jumped up off the sand, she smiled broadly, “you’ll have to catch me first,” she laughed, running to the ebbing sea, her shoes and socks already taken off.
Jacob rushed to get his damned shoes and socks off, rolling up his trousers so they wouldn’t get wet, he cursed at his slowness as he saw his lovely soulmate splashing along the shore away from him.
With speed Jacob never knew he hand he sprinted to Eve, capturing, as the force of his arms pulling her into him, propelled them into the water. Eve was giggling, as water washed over them, the wet sand clinging to their clothes. Jacob planted kiss after kiss on her face and neck,
“Want to go skinny dipping?” he whispered by her left ear, as he nipped at her lope.
“It’s broad daylight, and I'm pretty sure people may notice two teenagers in their underwear, folerking in the sea.
Jacob pulled her up, as as he stood, he pushed her damp hair away from her face, as way as the grains of sand on her cheeks. “That's not a no, we just have to come back when it’s dark.”
Eve chuckled, making Jacobs heart flutter, she took hold of his hands as she gently guided him deeper into the sea, till the water came up to their waists. “Hildi is going to have a field day when she sees me,”
Hildi indeed will, Hidli and her ancestors had worked as Jacobs family's housekeeper for generations, she was cook, maid, gardener and nanny all at once, and spent most her time looking after Jacob's father rather than the actual child of the family. She was the real authority of the house, and at that moment in time was trying to persuade Jacobs father that his son had not in fact been kidnapped though, his hersteria had began to rub off on her, and she too began to think the worse as jacob continued to ignore her texts and calls as well. When Jacob finally does show up back home, it is dripping wet, covered in sand. It took a lot to convince Hildi that Jacob had not drowned.
“Sorry,” Eve sighed contently, allowing her head to fall back into the water as her body flowed backwards with the rhythm of the sea.
Jacon couldn’t help but not stare at Eve, she looked serene, as if she belonged in the water, her greying wings that had slipped out of her rolling up jumper, even took to the light of the ocean simmering like sunlight catching on water.
“You really like it out here, huh?”
“Yeah, it’s just so perfect.” she smiled, gazing up at the sky. “Mum used to take me when i was little, but never in the sea, she always got so angry and sad,”
“Angry and sad?”
Eve shrugged, “I don't think she likes the beach much, but she never said no when I begged her to go.” she turned her face to gaze at Jacob, “is it weird that i feel the most comfortable here,”
“No, is it weird that I feel the most comfortable when listening to clown music?”
Eve grinned, “yes, that is definitely weird,” He splashed her face, “hey!” she laughed, “i was only telling the truth,”
She swimmed closer to her, “you look beautiful out here,”
“Opposed to when I'm dry and on solid ground?”
He splashed her again, “you always look beautiful, it’s just something about you being here,” he looked away sheepishly, hating how lame he sounded, he was interrupted in his embarrassment when he felt a wave of water hit his face, he snapped around to see a wide grin on Eves face. All of a sudden they began a battle of splashing, it was a small child like joy, that felt as if the world's worries went away.
By the time they stopped they were back on the beach, Jacob had grabbed a jacket from his car to wrapp Eve in as well as going to a nearby fish and chips to grab some food, they spent the rest of the afternoon, wading into evening eating and talking about everything that was on their minds.
Jacob was beyond relieved that their first date had gone so perfectly.
