Chapter thirteen
Jacob tapped his fingers on the steering, trying not to worry or wonder why Eve had texted him to pick her up by the vampire side of town. He knew the houses he was parked in front of belonged to the vampire royal houses, all large town houses like his, but taking on a more ancient brooding tone.
Vampires were typically like that, brooding, dark, grumpy, really it would be best to describe vampires as goths to the extreme one hundred. Jacob saw several vampires walking along the street with their black hooded cloaks and parasols to shield from the sun, looking like something from one of those period dramas. It unfortunately made Jacob think of that book he found in Eve's room, thoughts of how the book would end plagued him, he needed to know. How was David going to escape prison? How was he and lyra going to end up together? And will they finally for the love of goddess have sex.
Twenty or so minutes later of Jacob going through every possibility of what ending would be for the galloping of lust, he spotted Eve, Delila and Lola heading out from a towering house, speaking briefly to the butler, till making their way to the gate and over to his car.
Eve climbed into the passenger seat whilst the two other girls took the back.
“Thanks for picking us up,” she grinned, “you’re not missing anything important?”
“Besides watching a special on the dangers of clock making, i’m not missing much,”
“Clocking making?”
“A man lost his arm,”
“By..?”
“No idea Mr Liver was the one who told us, no one believed him, hence the reason the class is currently watching a special on it.”
“Wow,” Eve sniggered.
“It’s not funny, millions are injured a year due to clock making instances,” Lola spoke out passionately.
Unknown to Eve and Jacob, Lola had been with Mr Liver when he watched the supposed special, no one knew that Lolas dark unicorn older brother's soulmate was Jacobs R.E (religious education) teacher. After watching the shockingly graphic special, they were both determined to spread the word of the dangers of clock making.
“I never thought i would see you skipping school,” Jacob smirked, “too much of a goodie two shoes,”
Eve snorted, “I'm ahead in most my classes this term, i’m not missing anything.”
“And if it isn’t art class, then i’m good,” Delila tuned in,
“Can we go get ice cream, oh no wait!” Lola jumped excitedly, “crepes,”
“One day, you're going to find out what diabetes is,” Delila warned,
Lola waved off her words, “you can’t scare me, with boogiemonsters,”
“Does she not know that dia-”
“Yep,” Jacobs' hushed voice was cut off by Eve's bluntness.
“So where to now?” Jacob asked, looking round the car of the three girls.
“Crepres,” Lola replied jollily,
“No,” Eve and Delila both groaned in unison.
“But i’m hungry,”
“We could go to mine,” everyone went silent, “what?” Eve asked,
“Go to the fairy king's place?” Jacob questioned,
“To hang out?” Delila finished.
“That is what i said,”
“Yay!” Lola cheered, “we might actually get to see the fairy king in person.”
🪄🪄🪄
“Who needs all this space,” Delila muttered in awe,
“Oo, what’s this,” Lola ponce, Eve managing to stop Lola before she touched some priceless relic of the past.
“It’s one of the oldest wands in existence,” Feya spoke, all turning to see as she emerged into the hallway,
“Mum, i can explain-”
But Eve stopped noticing her mothers expression, she looked as if she were going to try, yet she was smiling. “My baby is skipping school,” she gushed proudly.
“Not something you should celebrate,” Eve spoke dryly.
“You have a life.”
“I’ve always had a life,”
“You're living adventurously.”
“Hey, Miss Maren,” Lola and Delila greeted,
“Hey girls. Is there a reason you’re in the room, where we keep the shiny things,”
“Besides to look at the priceless pieces of art?” Delila said absence, looking up at a painting of a forest with dancing naked fairies.
“We can leave if it’s a problem,” Jacob nervously spoke.
Feya broke out into laughter, “goddess no. my friends and i used to sneak in here all the time, i’m surprised no one stopped you, i used to get an earful about it.”
“Might be because i’m trustworthy,”
Feya frowned, “I'm trustworthy, I never broke anything intentionally.”
“Should i go ask granddad about that?” Eve smirked playfully,
Feya sighed smiling, “come on, we should get out of here before someone sees us,”
“And you get in trouble,” Eve sniggered,
“You know, i’m starting to think you don’t have that much respect for me,”
Feya took the four to the sitting room, where she brought them each a drink with sanks, though much to Lola's dismay, the snacks were not sweet at all, but were the savery kind, that was green.
“Here you go, one hot chocolate with extra whipped cream, sprinkles, and caramel, and toffee sauce, with marshmallows on top.” she handed Lola hder drink, “and here we have, a mango and strawberry smoothie for you,” she passed to Delila, “and a coke, for my daughter's very handsome soulmate.”
“Where's my drink?” Eve frowned,
“Maybe you should learn to respect your elders, then maybe you’d get a drink.” Feya spoke, taking a seat on the settee. She exhaled with satisfaction, lounging back against the cushions.
“It’s still so weird to think the two of you as princesses,” Delila commented after a sip from her drink, “no offence, but after seeing the two of you swearing up to the heavens at the tv, kicking and yelling at, till the screen worked again, ids not an imagine i associate with royalty.”
“Oh, so we were just meant to leave the tv blank, the heirs bride finale was on, we weren’t just going to miss it.”
“Hitting the TV with a shoe wasn’t going to fix it.”
“But strangely it did,” Eve joined quietly.
“There's so many family photos, oh, oh, oh!” Lola seemed to be working herself up, as she picked up a framed photo, “look, you look just like Evie,” Lola took the photo out, just as she did, she realised that the phone was folded in half, she opened it up, revealing a man posing next to young Feya. “Who's this Miss Maren?” her finger pressed onto the man. He was pale far too pale, with near white hair, he had foggy violet and blue eyes, and a dazzling smile. He was handsome, his skin seemed to shine and shimmer in the sun's light.
“He’s really good looking,” Delila added, leaning over to look at the photo.
Feyas face clouded, Eve from the very few pictures she had seen of her dad, knew that the man in the photo was him. She got up walking over to get a better look at the photo, she was memorised by the sight of her dad, there was so much she didn’t know about him, he looked fun loving, and carefree in the picture, a huge smile as if he was laughing at something.
“He’s er-um, Eve's dad, my soulmate.”
Lola furrowed her brows, “why was he hidden,”
“It was a bad photo, as you can see he didn’t photo that well,” she giggled, just like when she was hiding something. Eve narrowed her eyes on her mum.
“Really?” Delila asked, confused, “he looks pretty hot to me, could be a model.”
Feya snorted, “he wishes,” she muttered to herself, though Eve heard her clearly.
“You don’t really keep many pictures of dad, was it just because he didn’t,” Eve tried to sound natural and not at all sarcastic, (which was hard) “photograph well?”
“Yes, that,” Feya did not sound confident at all.
“What was he like?” Jacob asked,
“Oh, you know, he was-oh my god, i think i left the stove on,” Feya staged a shocking realisation, rapidly jumping off her seat and out the room, in the complete opposite direction the kitchens was.
“Was it just me or was that-”
“Strange?” Eve finished for Jacob, they shared a look ‘you thinking what i’m thinking?’ Eve spoke in mind to Jacob,
‘That your mum is hiding something?’
‘Exactly’
She smiled at each other, Delila watched her face painted in utter muddlement, “are you two going to make out now?”
Lola suddenly squealed, bursting everyone out of their own minds and to stare straight at the pink headed girl.
“What?” Delila looked at Lola with worry,
Lola grinned at her friend, looking up from her phone screen, “Vlad wants to hangout. I’ve got to go.” she skipped out the room, with Delila hot on her heels.
“Lola! Lola wait!”
Eve rested her head on Jacobs shoulder, “now that they’re gone, should we make out?”
Eve turned her face into his arm, giggling. “You really don’t have on off button,”
“Babe, i don’t think there a person or thing on this planet that could stop me from kissing you dumb.”
Eve blushed intensely, biting her lips with a tucked away smile, looking up at his handsome face.
“Eve?”
They both bolted their heads to the voice, parting instantly when they saw the king standing in the doorway.
“What are you doing here?”
“School ended early,” Jacob spoke before Eve could,
The king nodded, “I see, well now that i have you here, there’ll be a small banquet tonight, I'd like it if you’d come, you too Jacob, you’re family now, it’s only right I invite you too.”
“Oh but we-”
“Great, I'll see you in the ballroom, let's say eight.”
Before the two could say a word in response the Eves grandfather fluttered away on his wings down the corridor.
