“You can drag my body to school but my spirit refuses to go.” – Bill Watterson
First Day of School
Vallin walked into the main building, keeping his head down to avoid eye contact with any of the other students while also making sure not to bump into anybody.
It's not that he is a shy person, he just doesn't like it when other kids notice his eyes. It usually doesn't lead to good situations whenever they do.
Vallin had no issues with adults when it came to his eyes. If the adults had something negative to say, they never said it to his face. For example, last night Headmistress Roseburg didn't point out his eyes nor did she bother him about it. Which he prefered compared to kids his age who weren't as nice as the adults.
His grip tightened on the paper that held the map of the main building at the thought of his former classmates. He stopped walking and took a deep breath in and out. He prepared himself to take another one until someone ran past him, hitting his shoulder and causing him to fall down onto the hard marble floor.
"Ow!" Vallin dropped the map and rubbed the arm that took the most damage during the fall. It was sore to the touch, and he was sure if he peeled back the dark purple sleeve of his uniform, a bruise would be forming.
"Sorry!"His attacker didn't stop running but she did turn her brunette head back to yell out an apology causing a few students to glance at them before going back to their business. Vallin watched her slow down as she approached a table at the end of the hall and handed over the stack of papers she held in her arms to a blonde girl who sat behind the table.
The table had a sign that said," Class Schedules." And a banner hanging behind the table that said, "Welcome back students!"
"Welcome back my bu-" He muttered under his breath, holding his arm when someone stepped in front of him and offered him a hand.
"Hey! Are you okay?" It was another girl, her skin was darker than his attacker with pink curly hair and purple eyes speckled with a red. She wore the female version of his uniform with a pair of light blue colored striped socks and with a heart on the tongue of her light pink tennis shoes.
Vallin looked up at the girl then down at her hand before pulling himself up with the help of the wall and picking his map off the floor.
"I'm fine." He told her, noticing how her head only reached up to his chest. She looked up at him with a frown, and crossed her arms.
"Are you sure? I saw what happened," The pink haired girl glanced behind her at the girl who bumped into him before looking back at him. "It looked like you hit the ground pretty hard."
Vallin didn't understand why the short girl was worrying over him instead of minding her business like everyone else.
"Look, I said I was fine." He said, running his right hand through his locs and clenching the map with the other.
The pink haired girl didn't respond back to him. Instead, she stood there frozen, her eyes widened in surprise as she stared up at his face. It only took Vallin a few seconds to realize that the pink haired girl was staring at his eyes.
Without a word, he quickly walked away from her, silently cursing himself for slipping up and revealing his eyes.
"Huh? Wait!" Vallin heard the girl call after him, but that only made him speed up his pace. After making sure she didn't follow him, he slowed down his walking. He was at the end of the hallway near the table with the class schedules. The girl who bumped into him wasn't at the table anymore but the blonde girl was still sitting at the table sorting papers.
Vallin made sure his locs were covering his eyes before approaching the table. His arm was still sore and he was mentally recovering from the encounter with the pink haired girl but he still needed a class schedule.
"Excuse me, can I get a class schedule?" He asked.
“Of course. What is your first and last name?” The blonde girl stopped sorting papers and looked up at him with a smile.
“Vallin Doe.” He watched the blonde girl pick up a stack of papers and flip through them.
“Here you go Vallin! If you have any more questions you can ask me or anyone else who works at this table.” The blonde girl said as she handed him the class schedule and gave him a small wave as he walked away from her.
Vallin ignored the girl’s words and focused on reading his class schedule.

Vallin didn’t have a preference for any subjects, so he was fine with the arrangement of classes on his schedule. He slid his map from underneath the schedule paper and looked at both papers as he tried to find his classes on the map. While searching, he learned that all of his classes were downstairs and that half of his classes were on the other side of the main building.
Luckily for him, he was on the side of the school that held his first period. Though he still would have to go back and forth within the school to get to his classes. He let out a sigh at the thought of all that moving around. If only all his classes were all on the same side of the building.
Vallin placed the map on top of the class schedule and pulled his phone out of his pocket to check the time. He had 10 minutes until his first period started. He had time to kill before class started but there was a chance he would bump into that pink-haired girl or get bumped into by the brown haired girl again if he stayed out in the halls.
What is up with the girls in this school? He thought as he made his way to his science class with the guidance of his map. As Vallin did earlier, he avoided bumping into students while keeping a lookout for pink and brown hair while he was walking.
When he arrived for his first period, there were 6 minutes left until classes started. Not only did he succeed in not meeting those girls again, but the classroom was also empty. The room itself was smaller than the classrooms that he was used to but other than the size it looked like a normal science classroom.
Vallin claimed a seat in the back that was right by the wall and windows. He put his papers down on the desk. He should have brought his bookbag with him to class. It certainly would have provided him somewhere to place his papers instead of him having to hold them.
Well it's too late now, but he will make sure to bring his book bag in the future. At least he remembered to slip a pencil in one of his pant’s pockets before he left his dorm room earlier that morning. He needed to stay prepared if he was going to be staying at Pandora Hill Academia or so he was told by the staff back at the orphanage.
He rolled his eyes at the time and he rolled them again at that moment. Vallin highly doubted that he would be the only student in the school who occasionally forgot their belongings or who wasn’t prepared for something. Pandora Hill Academia may have been a prestigious boarding school but it was still a place of education and learning. A place where students were bound to make mistakes from time to time. Regardless of their status in life or their family backgrounds(or lack of biological family in his case).
Vallin still had a few minutes until his classmates and teacher arrived, so he decided to use what was left of his free time to take a nap. He folded his arms over the desk and his papers before laying his head on top of them. A wave of drowsiness hit him as he closed his eyes, easing him into sleep.
