She was on her way home from the pharmacy. After failing to sleep again last night, she heard an advert on the radio this morning:
"The new EYE-CARE(TM) eye ointment - guaranteed to help with dry and irritated eyes!"
In the pharmacy, the young man behind the counter had explained to her that the ointment achieved very good results and that one tube was enough for two weeks if used daily. She would like 10 tubes, she said, but he said that was unnecessary, one would be enough. Also, her eyes don't look dry or irritated at all, just very tired. She then said that the problems would only occur at night and after agreeing on five tubes with him, she made her way back home.
When she got home, she began rubbing the ointment on all surfaces, at least as far as the five tubes would go. She hoped for the best and waited for the evening.
It had gotten dark and she was lying in bed in her one-room apartment. She watched the room intently, wondering if the ointment would take effect. But her hopes were suddenly dashed.
Gradually they appeared on all tables, shelves and other surfaces and in all possible colors:
Dry, shriveled, eerily glowing eyes staring at her from all sides!
