“Oh, so you want to hear about us do you?” Gabriel laughed, grabbing Jace’s hand, “Babe you start.”
“Alright, alright to really understand our relationship, I need to provide backstory. I graduated high school at 15 and I was pretty much ready to start my life at that point. Our dad had always told Lucas that I had to go to college, so I decided I might as well go and get it over with. I enrolled at the university as a mathematics major and got accepted pretty quickly. Lucas actually drove me up for orientation. He says it was because I wouldn’t have gotten there otherwise but I think we both know it’s because he wanted to pretend to be my dad,” Jace laughed, kicking Lucas under the table.
“Yeah, yeah whatever continue your story,” Lucas smiled and pushed Jace’s leg away with his foot.
“Alright, so we get there for orientation, and I very clearly stand out. I mean look at me. I’m 6’6”, built like a barn, and I wasn’t even done growing yet at that point. Suddenly, there's someone grabbing my arm and when I look down, I see a tiny, hazel-eyed man looking up at me.”
“You seemed like a good hitching post,” Gabriel shrugged.
I had to hold in a giggle, I hate to admit it, but Gabe is really funny. I think it's why he gets along well with people. I leaned against Lucas and smiled. The fact that he got their attention off of me made my heart happy.
“Shut up. So anyway, after orientation, Gabriel kept showing up anywhere I was, trying to get me to go on a date with him. He would never let me explain why I was saying no. He would ask, I’d say no, and he would shrug and tell me that he would try again tomorrow. This went on for almost a year. Finally, the day before my 17th birthday, I managed to get Gabriel to shut up for 20 seconds so I could explain that the reason I turned down all his date offers was that someone,” Jace looked pointedly at Lucas as he said this. Lucas looked the other direction and rubbed the back of his neck, “Threatened to kill whoever I dated before the age of 17.”
“You’re ridiculous,” I laughed looking over at Lucas. I softly punched him in his arm and pulled him closer so I could rest my head against his shoulder.
“We ended up going on a date the next night, for my birthday, and then 2 days after that I left my dorm and moved in with Gabe. Lucas wasn’t thrilled but at the same time, he knew I was happy and that I had spent a year getting to know Gabe so he let it go. My birthday will be one year we have been together, and the day we get back to Cleveland will be one year of living together,” Jace smiled, pressing a kiss to Gabriel’s temple.
“That’s very lovely. I’m glad you found each other."
I smiled, standing up to gather the dishes and take them to the sink. This had become my routine after dinners here. Lucas was tired after work, and since I didn't have to pay him for anything, I felt it was my responsibility to take care of the chores.
“I bet you guys had a long day. I know that drive is wicked. We won’t be offended if you want to head up to bed,” Lucas chuckled, standing to his feet.
“For sure, goodnight little bro!” Gabriel laughed and hopped up, dragging Jace behind him.
“I’m the oldest one here and I’m taller than you!” Lucas yelled up the stairs after Gabriel.
I could hear Lucas sigh, a small laugh escaping his lips as he walked over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder. I'm still not used to positive interaction, but Lucas was always warm, and comforting.
“You did wonderful tonight,” Lucas whispered slowly and he pressed his lips to my neck. I could feel his breath on my skin, and it sent shivers down my spine.
I had to put the plate I was attempting to wash back into the sink and I leaned my body weight back onto Lucas my head falling against his shoulder.
He trailed his lips from my neck, across my jaw, cheeks, temple, and back down. When his lips finally reached my neck again, he softly bit down, sucking gently, drawing the blood to the surface.
Every kiss was a jolt of electricity down my back, and I whimpered.
That wasn't a noise I had made before and I quickly covered my mouth.
Lucas pulled my hand down and softly bit another part of my neck, pulling another new noise from my throat.
“Lucas, Lucas… please, we aren't alone remember," it took all of my strength to moan this out, I was gripping the sink for support.
He felt too hot, still slowly licking at my neck before he groaned and grabbed me by the chin, turning my face so he could kiss me deeply. I could feel his tongue run along my lip before he pulled back.
He laughed and poked the very raw skin on my neck.
“I know… But I couldn’t resist. I’m sorry. Also… wear a scarf or something tomorrow. Your neck looks terrible."
“I wonder whose fault that was,” I smiled and poked his chest.
“Oh mine and you better tell everyone about it. I'm pretty proud.”
“Who the fuck am I going to tell Luca? You’re the only person I talk to in real life, I’m pretty sure your brother doesn’t want to hear about it, Gabe will make it weird, and you broke my phone to protect me I think, remember?”
“Oh! Speaking of that hang on,” Lucas yelled out excitedly.
He released me and ran off into the hallway.
What the hell did he do this time?
I turned the sink off and followed my ridiculous, giant boyfriend who had bounced out of the kitchen like an over-excited bunny rabbit.
When I reached him in the hallway, he turned to me with a smile on his face and reached for my hand. Handing me a small bag, Lucas said, “I was going to wait for your birthday but that isn’t for a month so I thought I would give you this now.”
“Lucas, you don’t have to buy me things I can’t repay you for it right now.”
“Shush Addi, it’s a gift. Plus it’s important. Open it. Open Open Open.”
I sighed and reached into the bag pulling out a box that contained a new cell phone and charger.
What...
why did he buy...
no this isn't right...
no one buys something without wanting something in return...
right?
My eyes were wide as I looked up at him, “Lucas… why? Why did you buy me this? It had to be expensive. I could have just repaired the other one.”
He reached out to me again and grabbed the new phone and charger and placed them on the entry table. He took my hands in his and pulled me forward so our foreheads were touching. Closing his eyes, he began to speak.
“It’s a necessary item that I had to replace since I broke the other one. You also have a new phone number so that asshole can’t contact you anymore. I put my number, Jace, my uncle AJ and Gabe’s in there already. I was going to put my godparents in for emergencies but I thought that might be overkill since you might not even stay. I still have to keep my promise and I will tonight. I will tell you everything and we will go from there okay? I just… wanted to make sure you had a way to contact me if you decided to leave. You will always be welcome in this home. I hope you have everyone else's number you need memorized though because your old phone won’t turn on anymore.”
I closed my eyes and sighed. His words were always honest, you could feel it in the way the words fell from his mouth in a long ramble. He doesn't hide anything. I'd never met someone who was an open book, someone so unafraid to show who he really was. Lucas has this need to protect everything and everyone in his life... and this included me now. It was still terrifying, but I was slowly trying my best to believe the man in front of me was real.
“Thank you, Luca. I… don’t deserve this. But I will take care of it.”
I reached up and wrapped my hand around his neck. Pulling him down to me, I kissed him roughly, channeling all my emotions into the kiss.
Parting slowly, I looked into Lucas’ eyes.
“Can I ask a question?”
Clearing his throat, Lucas nodded in response, his cheeks tinted pink.
“Can I sleep in your room until they leave? I don’t really want to be across the hall from Gabe as he tries to convenience Jace to let him climb him like a tree.”
“You never have to ask. Of course, you can,” Lucas smiled, pulling me up the flight of stairs to his room, “Besides, I have a promise to keep tonight.”
