"Garrett! You're late! Again!" A brunette lady yells and looks down on her husband from the porch of their house. The man scratches the back of his head. "You were busy with those rocks again weren't you?"
"I'm sorry Vivianne, I really am! L-look, I got a nice gemstone to make it up to you!" A man with scruffy orange hair dug a topaz out of his pocket and held it out to his wife, glinstering in the sunlight. Vivianne's look however told him she wasn't impressed.
"You can't bribe me with something you bring home every other week." She says raising an eyebrow. "Come, dinner is ready."
Inside they are having a spaghetti dish with mushrooms on the side. The window outside provides a nice view atop the hill their house is stationed on. Mountains sprout across the other side of the valley adorned by flowing water at the bottom.
Garrett twirls some spaghetti strings on his fork and pricks it into a mushroom.
"So... where did Terry go? I thought she said she visited town today."
"She did." Viv responds. "Turns out there is a festival today that she wanted to hang out at with her friends."
"However, she better come home before sunset or I will have to 'talk' some sense into her!" The lady quoted with her fingers. Garrett just laughs however.
"Aw c'mon! Let the girl be! Terry needs to go out there and experience life. Or else she'll never grow up to be a big shot like her dad." Garrett points to himself in a self indulgent manner.
"What big shot?" Vivianne giggles. "So far you're just sitting near a pile of rocks in the desert for who knows how long."
Garrett adjusts his glasses. "I will uncover the secrets of the titans. I just know that someday I will make a groundbreaking discovery on them! That is my goal!"
"Well better make sure you eat that titan of a meatball first." Vivianne prodded Garrett's plate.
After dinner Garrett sits outside on the porch looking at the setting sun. The sunlight pierces through the mountains colouring their tops a deep red. Viv comes outside.
"You're thinking about it again, aren't you?" She expresses worry for Garrett. "That's why you venture into the desert daily, isn't it?"
The man nods. "I do have a genuine dream. I will never stop pursuing it."
"But I will also never stop looking for him. My boy. "
Vivianne rests a hand on her hushand's back.
"I know. It has been two decades Garrett. You have to let it go." Viv says softly.
"...I cannot. I wasn't there for him. As a father." His glasses slip down from the tilting of his head.
"Not when he was taken by that miserable man..."
"But you are here for her. As a father." The lady comforts him. Garrett rubs his eyes.
"Well, thank you Vivianne. You're right." He smiles.
"I should focus on what is now. Terry can count on me as a awesome dad."
"Awesome dad, but someone who needs to work on giving the right example." Viv waves her finger. "Don't get home late tomorrow, otherwise she'll follow your example and come after sunset."
"Yeah yeah." The man says while doing a little mocking with his hand. "Speaking of coming home..."
The couple wave at Terry, who just appears on the horizon line. As their daughter walks to their home, Garrett gains a big smile on his face. He looks determined.
Terry, I won't let you down! I'll prove to be a big shot of a researcher and father! And neither will I stop looking for you, Derek... just wait for me!
