Tyler had a nice house. Two stories with a movie room on the top floor. His parents had installed a projector to the ceiling and painted a white square on the deep red wall. The seats and couch in there reclined. They also had a popcorn maker, mini fridge with soda and bean bags in one corner. We usually watched movies or would play random video games up here for hours.
Dave and Tyler took the two recliners and I plopped on the couch how I usually do. For a few seconds Justin hesitated about where to sit.
I raised a brow when we met eyes. “Do you want to come sit with me pretty boy or get a bean bag?” I giggled “those two will never let you steal their chairs I’ve tried before”. I stuck my tongue out at Tyler and Dave.
“Well since those bags are all the way over there I might as well just sit next to you so scoot over”
“I knew you wanted to hangout with me” I said as he sat down. I leaned over next to his ear. “I meant what I said in the car. Three taps and I’ll excuse us to go home. Even if we are in the middle of a movie or game”
All he did was twist his hands in a lap and give me a small nod. Adorable. Since when was he all shy?
"So what do y’all wanna watch first?" asked Tyler holding the remote. He acted like he was trying to be nice, but really he just hates making decisions for himself.
“Mean girls! Ooo or transformers!” I said bouncing a little bit. Some of my biggest crushes were in those movies.
“Terrin I will put you in horny jail if you keep suggesting those shows.” Said Dave glaring at me
I threw my hands up in surrender. “If you could catch me that is sulker. Fine let’s let
Justin pick then since he’s new blood.”
“Oh no that’s okay. I don’t watch movies that often or know what you guys are into”
“Dave likes comedy usually, Tyler like sports and romance movies, I like anything with hot people in it like Megan fox or Chris Evans”
We all looked at him expectantly. “Maybe a marvel movie then? I like captain America the first avenger a lot.”
We all agreed on that and started watching. We made it through the whole movie with stupid jokes and imitations of characters. I tried to tell everyone that Bucky and Cap were made for each other, and they ignored me. How rude.
Tyler’s parents brought us up some pizza. As we ate, we all talked about our classes, crushes and expectations of the coming year.
“Come on Tyler you are a hot shot jock now you’ll have people throwing themselves on you. I know you like someone you should give in a shot.” I said between bites
“I have no idea what you are talking about I don’t like anyone.” His voice even cracked in the middle indicating that he was a big fat liar. I laughed at him for a second.
“Oh sure and my hair is bright pink. Come on Dave help me out” I said turning to him. I barely missed the glare I was receiving from him.
“Do you actually like someone” Dave said, almost whispering to Tyler. His eyes looked like the first day I had met him. So, pleading, desperate for an answer.
“Well yeah, maybe, no. I don’t know I’m uh…. Confused I guess.” Tyler finally pulled his gaze away and locked eyes with Justin trying to get the heat off himself. “What about you
Justin any people you are falling for yet?”
I thought his head would explode from how red his cheeks got.
“I’ll take that as a yes then” I said leaning in with my devious grin.
“We-well, it’s someone I thought was cute last year but we never really talked so I tried getting over it….. Um but now I think I like them again because they started talking to me. They are so warm and happy it’s hard not to gravitate towards them I guess.” He was looking at his hands again.
“That’s great dude! Maybe you have a chance with them then! If they are going out of their way to speak to you then they are at least a little interested. I mean look at this cute fluffy hair who wouldn’t fall for you” I ruffled his locks winking at him. He was so flustered it was hilarious to me.
“Do you really think so?”
“Terrin’s right! Reconnecting and getting closer at least means they want to be in your life, even if its not romantic.” Tyler said with a blush on his cheeks
“I totally get how you feel Justin. I say ride that wave and hope it takes you where you want to go.” Dave said glancing at Tyler.
Then I felt three squeezes on my hand from where I had dropped it next to Justin. I pretended to glance at my phone for the time. “Shoot! Sorry guys I forgot my mom wanted me to come home earlier tonight since we have company coming over tomorrow.” I lied. I turned to
Justin “Wanna walk home with me? I don’t wanna go alone really” I scratched the back of my head in fake embarrassment.
All Justin did was nod, and we said our goodbyes before heading out.
